Bichectomy means the removal of fatty tissues in the cheeks. Bichat fatty tissue in the cheeks
may cause a larger and rounded and chubby face in some patients.
Although there is no excess fat in other parts of the patients’ body, this look may cause them to
be unhappy. With the removal of volume of 2-3 cc fat from each cheek by bichectomy,
cheekbones become more distinct and the face looks thinner and more elegant.
Bichectomy is a 30-minute procedure under local anesthesia. The 1 cm incision is made on the
cheek of the upper molar tooth and the fatty tissues on the cheek are reached and removed.
The incision sites are repaired with self-absorbing sutures.
We advise our patients not to eat something for up to 3 hours after the surgery, then they can
continue their normal diet.
The swelling of the cheek area after a bichectomy disappears approximately 2 weeks later after
the surgery and at the end of the first month, our patients can see the results of the surgery
clearly.
The buccal fat (bichat ball) is a well-defined mass of fat that lies in the cheek and goes up to the
temple. This gives the cheek a large or hollow appearance depending on its size. When it is very
small, it produces a hollow cheek with wrinkles.
The buccal fat pads are therefore at the heart of the cheek treatments. This fat mass, located in
its center, is often responsible for the cheek being too swollen. A reduction of the buccal fat
pads will make it possible to refine the cheeks.
Dimpleplasty
By analyzing your face, the doctor will mark where to place the dimples. Doctor then uses a
small biopsy instrument to make a hole in your skin to manually create a dimple. A small
amount of muscle and fat is removed to aid in this creation. The area is about 2 to 3 millimeters
in length.
Once doctor creates the space for the future dimple, they then position a suture (sling) from
one side of the cheek muscle to the other. The sling is then tied to set the dimple permanently
in place. The operation is minimally invasive, lasting about 30 minutes, and is performed under
local anesthesia. With an experienced surgeon, patients are unlikely to experience
complications and no hospitalization is foreseen. You can return to your daily activities within a
couple of days.
*Most people who have surgery have a positive experience. But before opting for this type of
surgery, you’ll need to accept that the outcome is permanent, whether you like the results or
not. This seemingly simple surgery still requires a lot of thoughtful consideration before you
choose to do it.
