I recommend this clinic to everyone! Thank you
My father was treated at the St. Zdislava Clinic (Da Vinci robot surgery radical prostatectomy! The operation was performed by Jan Doležen (a very experienced prostate surgeon). Bookimed helped in organising the trip, they always answered my questions, thank you Julia, thank you also to the organiser Irina Korchminskaya, who also helped in organising the trip. Dad was met, in the clinic always took care of Dad interpreter Otakar, if something was needed, was on the phone and came, who speaks fluent Ukrainian and Russian, many of the medical staff understand Russian. There was constant care in the clinic, they always came, cleaned, fed me delicious food and took care of me. Dad was in the clinic for more than 7 days, they did not require additional payment. The nature is like in a health centre: coniferous trees, easy to walk, swallows everywhere. We are waiting for the results of histology. I recommend this clinic to everyone! Thank you

We are grateful to everyone who was with us along this path, especially Irina. We felt that finally we were not alone with our problems and our pain. Thank you, Irina. Thanks to all the doctors, thanks to Jan Dolezel and Jaroslav Tvaruzhek for the successful operation. We thank YOU from the bottom of our hearts. Thanks to Ian D. he monitored my condition every day after the operation and was ALWAYS WITH me. Thank you to Dr. Khamzin for your attention, you, in your own words, supported us very much, it is priceless, thank you and thank you again. Thanks to Otakar, translator, for your attention and support. Thank you, Otakar, very much. Thanks to all the medical staff. Girls, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We wish you all health, peace, happiness and prosperity.
Irina))) she was always there! I liked everything about the clinic: on the one hand, everything is simple, on the other, very professional. We were supported by everyone, from the driver who took my husband to the clinic and found words of support that calmed us down and a little defused the situation at that time, to the best doctors who always found time to care for us.

I am also immensely grateful to Associate Professor Dolezhal, he directly operated on me and subsequently observed the recovery process
Specialist Aleksey helped me very carefully, personally and for sure. Dad successfully underwent prostatectomy in the Czech Republic. I thank all the people involved in organizing Bookimed !!! Testimonial from patient Sergey: Dear visitors of the site "Bookimed", hello. I want to share my story with you. My name is Sergey, St. Petersburg, I am 65 years old and I have had prostate cancer. 03/19. 19 I got a PSA 6.26 analysis result. (I periodically donated blood for PSA, as there were some problems of a urological nature, besides, I was at risk, my father had prostate cancer) I turned to an oncologist, did an MRI of the pelvis, which showed that I in the left lobe of the gland, a capsule of 20x8 mm, conclusion: PIRADS 5, as bad as possible, as the doctor said. Next, the biopsy that confirmed the cancer, “Acinar Adenocarcinoma of the Prostate,” the total score for Gleason 6. Of course it was a hit! Although I understood that this is quite possible. My relatives helped me a lot: wife, children (I have two sons), wife of the eldest son (I do not like the word daughter-in-law). And then the question, "where to do the operation?" His son was told about the existence of the Bookimed company, which helps people in finding the best treatment option for various diseases around the world. He turned to this company, where he was immediately answered and offered two, the most acceptable options, the Czech Republic or Germany, the operation on the Da Vinci robot. Frankly, I was inclined to have surgery in St. Petersburg (three clinics have Da Vinci robots), but after talking with our doctors and the organizer of the operation at St. Zdislava Hospital in the Czech Republic, Irina Korchminskaya, I came to the conclusion that the operation should be done in Czech Republic !!! About a second, later did not regret it! As soon as I agreed to the operation, (previously I sent the results of the examination), on May 17, I was immediately scheduled for surgery on June 3. They immediately told me that the operation will be done by an assistant professor Dolezhal (experience, more than 2000 operations on prostate cancer on a robot !!!), assisted by Professor Tvaruzhek. All information about the clinic and doctors in the public domain on the website of the hospital of St. Zdislava. This is one of the many reasons why I had surgery there, and not in Russia, I could not get information on the statistics of operations performed by doctors in St. Petersburg. I flew to Prague 05/01/19, I was met at the airport and taken to the hospital, there I was met by the translator Otakar Peshek, speaks excellent Russian. 05/03/19 I had surgery, everything went well. I want to thank the entire staff of the hospital, all the great professionals, have been working in this hospital for many years, starting from nurses. Of course, many thanks to Professor Tvarujek, he is a great professional and a wonderful person! For all my busyness, whenever I had questions, I found time to answer them and give recommendations. I am also immensely grateful to Associate Professor Dolezhal, he directly operated on me and subsequently observed the recovery process. Special thanks to Dr. Khamzin! He did not participate in the operation and was not my attending physician. He graduated from the Leningrad Medical Institute, but for about twenty years he has been living and working in the Czech Republic, he stopped by several times, asked how he was doing and made recommendations for further recovery after being discharged from the hospital (gymnastics, etc.). While in the hospital, I contacted the employees of Bookimed three times. , on issues that have arisen with me and now, two months after the operation, I keep in touch with them, as well as with the St. Zdislava hospital, thank you all very much! Now everything is fine with me, almost completely recovered. 08/01/19 donated blood for PSA, the result is 0.026. I want to tell everyone who is faced with the same problem as mine, do not despair! Cancer, this is just a diagnosis! He can be defeated! You just need to turn to the professionals on time! And in the hospital of St. Zdislava wonderful doctors and nurses work! During my stay in the hospital, people underwent surgery: from Latvia, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Croatia, Mexico, Russia !! While in the hospital, I met one person from Riga, with the same problem as mine. We arrived with him on the same day, we performed operations with him on the same day, and on the same day we headed home. While walking in the surroundings (after the operation you need to walk as much as possible, and the hospital is located in the reserve!), We had the idea to travel across Europe from the hospital of St. Zdislava to the Spanish city of Santiago de Compostela on kickbike scooters under the slogan "we beat cancer!". We want to help people who for the first time encounter the same problem as ours understand that cancer can be defeated! We know how important support and faith are for such people, we have come this way! Perhaps this run will draw someone's attention to the existence of this problem and it will reveal this disease in time! The sooner a person turns to specialists with this problem, the easier it will be to win! If someone has questions, I will try to answer everyone, write

The clinic and its medical staff, command respect
The clinic and its medical staff, command respect. Highly qualified doctors, nurses and attendants are very attentive to patients. Chambers are kept in perfect system, daily change of linen. No complaints. The hospital is surrounded by forest, clean air. The only drawback is that there are no air conditioners in the wards.

"We are very grateful to the whole team of the hospital for the high professionalism in work, care and attention shown during the treatment and the rehabilitation period
Among a large number of such services, we made our choice of St. Zdislava Hospital because from the first steps of communication we already felt like patients. They explained to us in every detail and in every detail how to prepare for hospitalization, answered all questions of a medical and domestic nature. Upon arrival, they were met by the attending physician who told about the course of the upcoming operation answered questions. We are very grateful to the whole team of the hospital for the high professionalism in work, care and attention shown during the treatment and the rehabilitation period. Thanks so much for everything.

"I hope that the illness has left him thanks to all, all the staff of this clinic
Before choosing this clinic, my father and I conducted a study of similar clinics in Germany. And as a result, he went to an operation in the clinic of St. Zdislav, about which neither he nor I never regretted. The quality of medicine and equipment is similar, the doctor and his assistant are professionals of the highest class. I was very worried about the procedure and the stage of recovery from my father, but everything turned out to be much easier, without pain, etc. Active four-day therapy after the operation completely restored his strength and energy, so we left the clinic in a very good state of health and mood. I hope that the illness has left him thanks to all, all the staff of this clinic. A huge thank you for that !!!! And lastly: the cost of treatment in the clinic of St. Zdislav is twice as cheap as the same operation in Germany. Like this

Our Radiotherapy Techniques: What Suits You Best?

When considering Radiotherapy, it’s important to understand the different techniques and which is best suited for you. Here’s a concise comparison of popular options:

Radiotherapy for prostate cancer

This procedure uses radiation to target and destroy cancer cells in the prostate gland.

Pros: Non-invasive with a high precision targeting of cancer cells, reducing damage to surrounding tissue. Success rates can exceed 90% in early-stage prostate cancer.
Cons: Potential for side effects such as fatigue and urinary issues in some patients. Treatment may require multiple sessions over several weeks.
Effectiveness: Success rate of 90% for localized prostate cancer.
Duration: 30-45 minutes per session.
Recovery: Not needed.
Best for: Early-stage prostate cancer and localized tumors.

Stereotaxic Radiosurgery

It is a non-invasive radiation treatment that precisely targets tumors and abnormalities in the brain and other parts of the body.

Pros: Offers pinpoint accuracy, minimizing damage to healthy tissue. Success rates are high, with tumor control achieved in up to 90% of cases.
Cons: Limited to small or well-defined tumors. Not suitable for widespread cancer treatment, affecting less than 5% of cases.
Effectiveness: Tumor control rates up to 90%.
Duration: Procedure typically takes 1-2 hours.
Recovery: Not needed.
Best for: Small brain tumors, arteriovenous malformations, and functional disorders within 3 cm.

Tomotherapy

Tomotherapy is a precise form of radiation therapy that integrates CT imaging and intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) to treat cancer.

Pros: Offers high precision in targeting tumors with 3D imaging, reducing damage to surrounding tissues by up to 50%. Suitable for complex tumor shapes and locations.
Cons: Treatment sessions may take longer compared to TrueBeam, averaging 20-30 minutes. Not ideal for all tumor types, particularly those requiring stereotaxic precision.
Effectiveness: Achieves local control rates of 85% in specific cancers.
Duration: Each session lasts 20-30 minutes.
Recovery: Not needed.
Best for: Suitable for head, neck, and prostate cancers, and tumors with irregular shapes.

Radiation Therapy for Colorectal Cancer

Involves using high-energy rays to target and destroy cancer cells in the colon or rectum.

Pros: Radiation oncology can precisely target tumors, minimizing damage to surrounding tissues. It has a high local control rate of up to 80%.
Cons: Side effects like fatigue and bowel irritation occur in approximately 20% of patients. It may require multiple sessions over several weeks.
Effectiveness: Achieves local control in approximately 80% of cases.
Duration: The procedure takes about 5-6 weeks with daily sessions.
Recovery: Recovery typically takes 1-2 weeks.
Best for: Suitable for treating localized tumors in the colon or rectum.

TrueBeam

TrueBeam is an advanced linear accelerator used for precise and efficient radiation therapy in oncology.

Pros: High precision targeting with up to 25% faster treatment times compared to other systems. Capable of treating complex cases with minimal damage to surrounding tissues.
Cons: Requires highly specialized training for operators, which may not be available in all treatment centers. Limited accessibility in rural areas compared to more widespread systems like tomotherapy.
Effectiveness: Success rate of over 90% in local tumor control for certain cancers.
Duration: Each session typically lasts 10-30 minutes.
Recovery: Not needed
Best for: Ideal for treating tumors in the brain, lung, and prostate with precision. Suitable for both pediatric and adult patients.

FAQ about Radiotherapy in Czech Republic

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What are the main advantages of proton therapy in Prague, Czech Republic?

Proton therapy in Prague offers superior precision through Pencil Beam Scanning technology. This approach targets tumors spot-by-spot, sparing healthy tissues near the brain, heart, and spine. Patients benefit from a lower toxicity profile and reduced risks of long-term side effects compared to conventional X-ray treatments.

  • Targeting precision: Pencil Beam Scanning magnetically guides beams to paint tumors layer-by-layer.
  • Organ preservation: Protons stop at the tumor site, protecting vital organs like the brainstem.
  • Pediatric safety: Reduced scatter radiation protects children from secondary developmental issues or tumors.
  • High success: Specialized protocols show minimal risks of incontinence or impotence in prostate cases.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Radiotherapy costs in the Czech Republic range from $6,000 to $11,000, which is about 72% less than US averages. While Prague is a regional hub, patients should verify if their specific cancer type requires proton therapy or if TrueBeam, costing around $8,500, provides similar benefits for their case.

Patient Consensus: Patients value Prague as a practical balance between high treatment quality and manageable travel logistics. Success often depends on obtaining a clear clinical justification for protons versus standard radiation for your specific anatomy.

Which types of cancers are commonly treated with advanced radiotherapy in the Czech Republic?

Advanced radiotherapy in the Czech Republic commonly treats prostate, breast, head and neck, and central nervous system tumors. Czech oncology centers use high-precision tools like proton therapy and stereotactic radiosurgery to target malignancies near sensitive organs, including the brainstem, heart, and spinal cord, while protecting healthy tissue.

  • Prostate cancer: Advanced photon radiation and pencil-beam proton therapy provide high cure rates.
  • Pediatric tumors: Proton therapy treats medulloblastoma and sarcomas to minimize developmental growth risks.
  • Head and neck: Precise beams protect optic nerves and auditory structures during tumor irradiation.
  • Brain tumors: Tomotherapy and TrueBeam treat gliomas while preserving vision and cognitive function.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many seek the Czech Republic for proton therapy, data shows clinics like Robotic Surgery Center in St. Zdislava Hospital specialize in robotic alternatives for prostate cases. If your tumor is not near critical neural pathways, standard high-precision photon therapy often provides identical outcomes for significantly lower costs than proton beams.

Patient Consensus: Patients value the access to specialized machines like TrueBeam, but emphasize that advanced radiation still causes common side effects like fatigue and skin blisters. Many advise focusing on a team's specific experience with your tumor type rather than just the technology available.

What makes the Czech Republic a popular destination for radiotherapy?

The Czech Republic is a global destination for radiotherapy because it offers specialized technologies like TrueBeam, tomotherapy, and stereotactic radiosurgery at lower costs than Western Europe. Patients choose Prague and Pardubice for high clinical quality, European safety benchmarks, and shorter wait times for advanced treatments.

  • Advanced technology: Facilities use TrueBeam, tomotherapy, and pencil beam scanning for precise tumor targeting.
  • Cost savings: Patients save about 72% compared to US prices for specialized cancer treatments.
  • Fast access: Quick scheduling helps international patients avoid long waiting lists in their home countries.
  • Expert staff: Local oncologists and medical physicists follow rigorous European training and safety standards.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While Prague is the primary hub, regional centers like those in Pardubice offer private diagnostics with professional logistics. Specialized centers in the Czech Republic often handle high surgical volumes, such as the Robotic Surgery Center in St. Zdislava Hospital, which is a leader in robotic prostatectomies.

Patient Consensus: Patients value the solid healthcare system and professional care, noting that logistics for international travelers are smooth. Many advise checking the specific radiation modality and planning for follow-up care before traveling.

How can international patients arrange treatment in the Czech Republic?

International patients arrange treatment in the Czech Republic by selecting a specialized clinic, submitting medical records for evaluation, and securing a medical visa. Specialized centers like St. Zdislava Hospital or Oncology Center Multiscan provide targeted therapies including TrueBeam and stereotaxic radiosurgery for oncology patients.

  • Select a provider: Choose specialized oncology centers or hospitals with dedicated international patient departments.
  • Submit documentation: Send current MRI or CT scans and medical history for preliminary evaluation.
  • Review cost estimate: Receive an itemized plan ranging from $6,000 to $11,000.
  • Secure visa: Use the hospital acceptance letter to apply for a short-term Schengen visa.
  • Manage logistics: Finalize travel dates, airport transfers, and local accommodation through the clinic concierge.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While Prague is the main hub, patients often find higher specialization in regional centers. For example, St. Zdislava Hospital in Velke Mezirici is a European leader in robotic surgery. These regional centers often offer a private clinic setting that serves international patients from across Europe and the CIS.

Patient Consensus: Patients suggest contacting the international office first to handle paperwork. It is vital to confirm deposit requirements early and bring a short written explanation of your condition in English to speed up the triage process.
