-I was lucky that I went to the website "Bukimed"
I'll start with the most important thing. The most important thing in a huge sea of information is to choose the right "light", "lighthouse", which will point the way to a person who finds himself in this abyss with a limited time and money limit. I was lucky that I went to the website "Bukimed". I was contacted by coordinating physician Ivan Koval, who was very tactful and at the same time confidently leading me forward. I rushed from one clinic to another, from one operator to another, he calmly explained to me all the pros and cons and was support even when I already completely refused his help and tuned in to another operator. Even then, he very tactfully warned about possible pitfalls and continued to be an assistant. As a result, I took his advice and did not regret it. Hi Medical is very sympathetic to customers, helps with everything, tries to reduce customer costs, where possible. Organizes as quickly as possible consultations and time-examination. Special thanks to Victoria, who spins like a squirrel in a wheel to keep everything in order, always in touch and will not rest until the matter is brought to an end. My treatment is not yet complete, but I'm glad that I got into such a nice team, which brightens up, as much as possible, a person's life one-to-one with his illness. Thank you and for a healthy sense of humor, it also helps to overcome illness!))) And, still. Ivan was in touch with me throughout his stay in Israel. He was convinced that I flew, I was met and I was engaged. He made sure that I get everything that was promised. And after my return home, too, remains in touch, helping in my next steps. Thanks for the help!

"I'm pleased now about the hospital and the treatment I got was great"
I'm pleased now about the hospital and the treatment I got was great, everything was done very fast(blood test, etc), the hospital has new equipment and it is really great. The price is higher to compare with Europe, but it is justified. One thing that I don't like that is I have a bad connection with a doctor after my consultation and every question that I had I could provide through middle-man only that is why it was not so fust. Also, the English level of the stuff was not so good.

FAQ about Chemotherapy for liver cancer in Israel

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What specialized chemotherapy methods are used in Israel for liver cancer?

Specialized chemotherapy for liver cancer in Israel focuses on locoregional techniques like Transarterial Chemoembolization (TACE) and Hepatic Arterial Infusion (HAI) pump therapy. Leading JCI-accredited centers in Tel Aviv deliver high-dose medication directly to tumors to maximize local drug concentration while minimizing systemic side effects.

  • TACE: Catheter-based delivery of chemotherapy and embolic agents directly into the hepatic artery.
  • HAI pump: A specialized implant allows local drug doses 600% higher than traditional systemic options.
  • SIRT (Y-90): Radioactive microbeads like Therasphere provide targeted internal radiation therapy for liver-specific tumors.
  • HIPEC: This approach uses heated chemotherapy to treat cancer spreading to the abdominal cavity.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Israeli oncology centers often integrate Foundation One CDx genetic testing to identify specific tumor mutations. This data allows specialists like Dr. Irina Stepfansky at Sourasky Medical Center to replace standard chemo with immunotherapy combinations, such as Nivolumab or Keytruda, which are standard for their clinical trial protocols.

Patient Consensus: Patients value locoregional therapies like TACE because they effectively target liver-specific tumors while reducing overall toxicity. Many emphasize requesting mutation testing early to qualify for advanced targeted therapy trials available in Tel Aviv.

How effective is chemotherapy for liver cancer in Israel?

Chemotherapy for liver cancer in Israel achieves high effectiveness through localized delivery methods like chemoembolization and hepatic artery infusion. These protocols at JCI-accredited centers like Sourasky and Sheba target tumors directly, reaching up to 83% disease control for non-operable primary liver cancer.

  • Localized impact: TACE and SIRT deliver high-dose medication while sparing healthy tissue from toxicity.
  • Integrated protocols: Oncologists combine next-generation targeted drugs with immunotherapy for advanced or metastatic cases.
  • Surgical bridging: Doctors use chemo to shrink tumors, enabling successful resections or organ transplants.
  • Advanced diagnostics: Clinics utilize Foundation One CDx genetic testing to select the most effective drugs.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While systemic chemotherapy averages $2,400 to $5,500 in Israel, patient data highlights a secondary benefit beyond cost. Clinics like Sourasky serve 40,000 oncology patients annually, creating a massive pool for clinical trials. This high volume gives patients access to experimental treatments like TIL therapy that are often less accessible elsewhere.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that effectiveness varies by cancer origin, noting that chemotherapy often yields better results for metastatic colorectal cancer than primary liver tumors. Many prioritize symptom management and dose adjustments to handle side effects like bone marrow suppression during the typical 3-to-14 day treatment stay.

Is immunotherapy available alongside chemotherapy for liver cancer in Israel?

Immunotherapy is widely available alongside chemotherapy for liver cancer in Israel. Leading medical centers combine drugs like Keytruda or Tecentriq with systemic chemotherapy or targeted therapies. Specialist oncologists personalize these protocols using molecular genomic profiling and advanced clinical trial access for hepatocellular carcinoma treatment.

  • Treatment combinations: Surgeons often pair atezolizumab with bevacizumab for enhanced therapeutic responses.
  • Advanced diagnostics: Doctors utilize Foundation One CDx testing to match patients with specific immunotherapies.
  • Specialized techniques: Facilities integrate immunotherapy with Selective Internal Radiation Therapy (SIRT) or chemoembolization.
  • Elite clinicians: Experts like Dr. Ofer Merimsky lead multidisciplinary teams at JCI-accredited centers.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Israeli oncology centers stand out because they offer Tumor-Infiltrating Lymphocyte (TIL) therapy. While most countries restrict this to clinical trials, centers like Sheba provide it as a standard specialized option. Patients often save up to _price_percent_discount_% compared to U.S. costs while accessing these next-generation protocols.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize the importance of molecular profiling to confirm eligibility. They also highlight the need for regular liver enzyme monitoring when combining these intensive systemic treatments.

What is the role of surgery if I receive chemotherapy?

Surgery acts as a curative treatment to physically remove localized liver tumors, while chemotherapy provides systemic control to eliminate circulating cancer cells. This combination maximizes long-term survival by shrinking advanced tumors before surgery or preventing recurrence by targeting microscopic disease after a successful liver resection.

  • Neoadjuvant therapy: Chemotherapy shrinks large tumors to make previously inoperable cases eligible for surgical resection.
  • Adjuvant treatment: Post-operative chemotherapy kills remaining cells to reduce risk of cancer returning after surgery.
  • Tumor debulking: Surgeons remove as much mass as possible to improve the effectiveness of subsequent chemotherapy.
  • Curative resection: Surgery remains the primary method for total tumor clearance when chemotherapy provides systemic stabilization.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Israeli oncology centers like Sourasky Medical Center (Ichilov) often bridge the gap between inoperable and operable liver cancer. Large-volume centers specialized in hepatobiliary surgery frequently successfully resect tumors that other facilities might label unresectable. Always consult a dedicated liver surgeon alongside your oncologist, as they can assess the liver's regenerative capacity which often allows for safe, extensive resections provided enough healthy tissue remains.

Patient Consensus: Many patients find that starting with chemotherapy opens a window for surgery when tumors were initially too large. It is highly recommended to seek a second opinion at specialized centers if surgery is not offered at first.

What are the key advantages of treating liver cancer in Israel?

Israel provides exceptional liver cancer care through JCI-accredited centers like Sourasky Medical Center, which treats 40,000 patients annually. Key advantages include advanced genetic testing, innovative SIRT and chemoembolization techniques, and access to Phase I–III clinical trials led by world-renowned oncologists.

  • Expert oncologists: Specialists like Dr. Ofer Merimsky hold leadership roles in international oncology societies.
  • Integrated approaches: Multi-center collaboration combines systemic chemotherapy with regional SIRT and ablation therapies.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While chemotherapy starts from $2,400, the real value in Israel is diagnostic speed. Private complexes like Assuta completed full checkups in 1–3 days. This rapid turnaround allows patients to begin targeted therapy or SIRT much faster than in the US, where wait times average _price_compare_US_average_ for similar care.
