-I was lucky that I went to the website "Bukimed"
I'll start with the most important thing. The most important thing in a huge sea of information is to choose the right "light", "lighthouse", which will point the way to a person who finds himself in this abyss with a limited time and money limit. I was lucky that I went to the website "Bukimed". I was contacted by coordinating physician Ivan Koval, who was very tactful and at the same time confidently leading me forward. I rushed from one clinic to another, from one operator to another, he calmly explained to me all the pros and cons and was support even when I already completely refused his help and tuned in to another operator. Even then, he very tactfully warned about possible pitfalls and continued to be an assistant. As a result, I took his advice and did not regret it. Hi Medical is very sympathetic to customers, helps with everything, tries to reduce customer costs, where possible. Organizes as quickly as possible consultations and time-examination. Special thanks to Victoria, who spins like a squirrel in a wheel to keep everything in order, always in touch and will not rest until the matter is brought to an end. My treatment is not yet complete, but I'm glad that I got into such a nice team, which brightens up, as much as possible, a person's life one-to-one with his illness. Thank you and for a healthy sense of humor, it also helps to overcome illness!))) And, still. Ivan was in touch with me throughout his stay in Israel. He was convinced that I flew, I was met and I was engaged. He made sure that I get everything that was promised. And after my return home, too, remains in touch, helping in my next steps. Thanks for the help!

"I'm pleased now about the hospital and the treatment I got was great"
I'm pleased now about the hospital and the treatment I got was great, everything was done very fast(blood test, etc), the hospital has new equipment and it is really great. The price is higher to compare with Europe, but it is justified. One thing that I don't like that is I have a bad connection with a doctor after my consultation and every question that I had I could provide through middle-man only that is why it was not so fust. Also, the English level of the stuff was not so good.

FAQ about Lymphoma chemotherapy in Israel

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Why do patients travel to Israel for lymphoma treatment?

Patients choose Israel for lymphoma treatment to access advanced cellular therapies and personalized medicine from world-leading hemato-oncologists. Centers like Sheba and Sourasky (Ichilov) offer in-house CAR T-cell manufacturing and next-generation immunotherapies, often providing faster access to life-saving protocols than hospitals in the United States or Canada.

  • Advanced cellular therapy: Sheba Medical Center features a GMP-certified laboratory for in-house CAR-T therapy manufacturing.
  • Expert surgical oncology: Dr. Ron Ram specializes in high-success allogenic and autologous stem cell transplants.
  • Precision diagnostics: Clinics utilize FoundationOne CDx genetic testing to identify targeted treatment options for patients.
  • International accreditation: Leading facilities maintain Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation and Newsweek global rankings.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While standard chemotherapy protocols are globally available, Israel's true advantage is accessibility to bi-specific antibodies and cellular therapies. For instance, Sheba Medical Center serves over 2,000,000 patients annually and provides CAR-T therapy to international patients outside of traditional clinical trials. This significantly broadens treatment windows for those with relapsed or refractory lymphoma.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that traveling to Israel is most valuable for accessing experimental chemo-biologic therapies or specialized cell treatments unavailable elsewhere. They often highlight the significantly lower costs for complex procedures like CAR-T compared to commercial pricing in the US.

What chemotherapy regimens are used for lymphoma in Israel?

Israeli hematologists use advanced chemotherapy regimens like R-CHOP, ABVD, and DA-EPOCH-R, often combined with targeted biologics or immunotherapy. These protocols follow international NCCN and ESMO guidelines, achieving complete response rates up to 95% for specific lymphoma subtypes in recent clinical studies.

  • First-line therapies: R-CHOP serves B-cell lymphomas, while ABVD remains the Hodgkin lymphoma standard.
  • High-intensity protocols: DA-EPOCH-R is frequently utilized for aggressive Burkitt or double-hit lymphoma cases.
  • Salvage regimens: ICE and IGEV protocols treat relapsed disease, often preceding stem cell transplantation.
  • Advanced combinations: Newer chemo-biologic therapies integrate brentuximab vedotin to improve survival in advanced stages.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Israeli oncology centers like Sheba Medical Center offer a distinct advantage with in-house CAR-T cell manufacturing. While most global clinics wait weeks for external labs, these facilities process cellular therapies on-site. This significantly reduces the critical waiting period for patients with refractory lymphoma who have already exhausted standard chemotherapy lines.

Patient Consensus: Patients undergoing intensive 24-hour infusion regimens, such as DA-EPOCH-R, strongly recommend requesting a port catheter early. This proactive step improves comfort and protects veins during the multi-day treatment cycles common in Israeli hospitals.

What new or innovative treatments are available alongside chemotherapy?

Israeli oncology centers integrate chemotherapy with advanced immunotherapies and cellular treatments for lymphoma. Key innovations include CAR T-cell therapy, bispecific antibodies like Mosunetuzumab, and checkpoint inhibitors such as Nivolumab or Pembrolizumab. These smart therapies target cancer cells directly while significantly reducing long-term systemic toxicity.

  • Cellular therapy: CAR T-cell therapy genetically modifies patient immune cells to destroy tumors.
  • Bispecific antibodies: Drugs like Glofitamab simultaneously bind to tumor cells and immune cells.
  • Targeted conjugates: Antibody-drug conjugates like Polatuzumab vedotin deliver toxins specifically to lymphoma cells.
  • Precision testing: Foundation One CDx genetic testing identifies specific mutations for personalized drug selection.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Israeli hospitals like Sheba Medical Center operate their own GMP-certified manufacturing labs for CAR-T. This allows surgeons like Dr. Elad Jacoby to provide point-of-care cell therapies. These internal labs often make cutting-edge cellular treatments more accessible than at facilities relying on external global providers.

Patient Consensus: Patients advocate for Nivolumab + AVD as a newer standard for Hodgkin lymphoma to reduce side effects. Many emphasize exploring bispecific antibodies or clinical trials early if initial chemotherapy regimens show resistance.

Do Israeli doctors use excessive chemotherapy?

Israeli doctors do not use excessive chemotherapy but prioritize personalized medicine and precision diagnostics to reduce toxic exposure. Most centers follow international protocols like RATHL, utilizing molecular testing and genetic mapping through Foundation One CDx to determine if biological therapies can replace or supplement traditional drugs.

  • Targeted alternatives: Doctors use CAR-T therapy and bi-specific antibodies to target specific cancer cells.
  • Diagnostic precision: Gene mapping identifies cases where traditional chemotherapy can be safely omitted or reduced.
  • Success rates: Sourasky Medical Center (Ichilov) reports a 90% average oncology success rate through management.
  • Specialized manufacturing: Sheba Medical Center features a GMP-certified center for producing advanced cellular biotherapies.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While Israel is known for high-tech CAR-T therapy, the real advantage is early adoption of PET-CT-driven protocols. Leading oncologists like Dr. Abraham Avigdor at Sheba Medical Center often use interim scans to de-escalate treatment. This means if the tumor responds quickly, doctors may stop chemotherapy early to prevent long-term toxicity.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that treatments follow strict international guidelines, providing confidence that intensive cycles focus on preventing relapse. Many emphasize the availability of clinical trials that offer less toxic, novel immunotherapy options.

How long does lymphoma chemotherapy last in Israel?

Lymphoma chemotherapy in Israel typically lasts 4 to 6 months, usually consisting of 6 treatment cycles. While standard protocols like R-CHOP or ABVD timeframe this duration, intensive cases involving stem cell transplants or advanced immunotherapies may extend the total medical timeline to 9 months.

  • Treatment cycles: Most standard lymphoma regimens require 6 rounds every 2–3 weeks.
  • Session length: Infusions vary widely, lasting from 30 minutes to over 5 hours.
  • Shortened protocols: Specialized centers trial chemo-biologic therapies that may reduce treatment to 2 cycles.
  • Biological options: Clinics utilize CAR T-cell therapy and targeted treatments for faster clinical responses.
  • Full recovery: Physical restoration following the final chemotherapy dose takes 9 to 12 months.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many patients overlook that Israel is a global leader in CAR T-cell therapy. Centers like Sheba Medical Center house in-house GMP-certified biotherapy labs. This allows doctors to transition patients to cellular immunotherapy faster than facilities that outsource cell processing. This integration can significantly streamline the treatment timeline for relapsed cases.

Patient Consensus: Patients report that while active infusions finish in six months, the emotional and physical fatigue lasts nearly a year. They often emphasize that session lengths are unpredictable, requiring full days at the oncology center.
