Their staff was very accommodating and thoughtful - everyone was super nice and considerate, especially Sara and Maria
First off, I used Aura Wellness Center, instead of Alice Beauty Clinic. And, their staff was very accommodating and thoughtful - everyone was super nice and considerate, especially Sara and Maria. Sara was the best English speaker there and helped me with everything. Maria was kind, warm, and also a great English speaker. They made it less lonely since I had this journey alone. Through Bookimed, I was assisted by Confidence, she was super thoughtful and checked up on me. She made sure I had connections with my medical coordinator and doctor. My coordinator was named Carlos. He was kind, answering all my questions and even texted me after my surgery numerous time to ensure I was recovering and satisfied with my results. My doctor was Dr. Ayala. I can't say much about him since he was in and out of the surgery room. I met him briefly. And, I'm unsure of my results as I am only one month post-op.
The staff at the clinic was accommodating. The coordinator from Bookimed and from the doctor ensured my questions were answered.
Dr. Ayala's brevity and lack of check up after the surgery. I didn't meet him more than 15 (when I was conscious since I was under anesthesia when he operated on me).

So far all is going well and really cannot rate my experience as it’s too soon to tell the results
It would have been better if I could have met with the doctor before and after my surgery. So far all is going well and really cannot rate my experience as it’s too soon to tell the results

I like how fast and easy it was from the start. The surgical facility was small but worked fine. I did not like the post op care. The night nurse was terrible. Her patients were not a priority. Post op care was not made clear. I would have preferred more detailed instructions on after care. I was left guessing about bandages, sprays, medications and scar treatment. Doctor repaired a hernia, of which I was grateful, but would have preferred to have price list in case this occurred so I could have been prepared financially. I felt like price was just made up. So I don't know if I was overcharged. I liked Mexicali as it was a nice quiet clean town. All in all experience was not bad and the price was affordable.

FAQ about treatment in Mexico

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What are the qualifications to look for in a Cancún plastic surgeon for VASER liposuction?

In Cancun, VASER liposuction surgeons must have certification from the Mexican Council of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery (CMCPER). Also, choose a surgeon with ISAPS membership and specialized training in internal ultrasonic liposculpture.

  • Specialty certification: Surgeons must have specific CMCPER credentials and a plastic surgery specialty license (cedula).
  • International standing: Look for members of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) for global standards.
  • Specific experience: Top specialists like Dr. Arturo Valdez at Azuna Medical Center perform high-definition 4K liposculpture.
  • Facility accreditation: Make sure the clinic has Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation for surgical safety.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While clinics market VASER technology, true expertise is in high-volume practices. Riviera Institute For Plastic Surgery serves over 300 patients annually with surgeons recognized by Forbes. Choosing a surgeon with 15+ years of experience ensures better contour judgment. This also allows for safer fat removal limits.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize checking the official CMCPER registry rather than relying on social media portfolios. They recommend confirming who provides anesthesia and ensuring the operating surgeon handles all follow-up visits.

Why is Cancún a popular destination for VASER liposuction?

Cancún is a global hub for VASER liposuction. The city has a high concentration of board-certified surgeons and competitive pricing. Patients can access body-contouring techniques like high-definition 4K liposculpture and ultrasonic waist contouring. These procedures take place in JCI-accredited facilities. Patients also benefit from specialized medical tourism infrastructure and beachfront recovery settings.

  • Expert surgeons: Specialists like Dr. Arturo Valdez have performed over 2,000 successful surgeries.
  • Advanced technology: Clinics use internal ultrasonic liposculpture for smoother skin retraction and contouring.
  • Global credentials: Surgeons hold memberships in AMCPER, ISAPS, and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
  • Comprehensive support: Infrastructure includes private nurses, bilingual coordinators, lymphatic massage, and dedicated medical drivers.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Cancún clinics offer a unique level of expertise. Lead surgeons, such as those at Riviera Institute, hold prestigous national awards. Dr. Nain Maldonado was recognized by Forbes as a top specialist in Mexico. Cancún has a high concentration of elite talent. Patients can find surgeons with 30+ years of experience for complex body contouring.

Patient Consensus: Patients appreciate that costs are significantly lower than in the US. However, many emphasize that recovery is physically demanding. Success often depends on following strict postoperative steps. These include lymphatic massage and wearing compression garments for several months.

What is the recovery timeline after VASER liposuction in Cancún?

Recovery after VASER liposuction in Cancun is typically smooth. Patients can return to light desk work within 7 to 14 days. Most international patients can fly home after 5 to 7 days. A board-certified plastic surgeon gives the go-ahead at a final checkup to make sure healing is on track.

  • Early movement: Gentle indoor walks are important within 24 hours to prevent blood clots.
  • Post-operative massage: Lymphatic drainage massages usually start by day 3 to reduce swelling.
  • Compression therapy: Patients wear compression garments 24/7 for the first 3 to 4 weeks.
  • Final results: Major swelling goes down by week 6, but final contours appear after 4 months.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Cancun clinics like Riviera Institute often have surgeons with over 20 years of experience. This level of experience is crucial for VASER. Data shows that clinics led by Forbes-recognized specialists often bundle lymphatic drainage into the first week. The bundled lymphatic drainage helps patients feel ready to fly home by day 7.

Patient Consensus: The first 72 hours are the hardest for basic tasks like sitting or dressing. The compression garment can feel itchy or restrictive. However, seeing early shape changes by week 2 makes the discomfort manageable.

What are the potential risks or complications associated with VASER liposuction in Cancún?

VASER liposuction in Cancún involves risks like thermal burns from ultrasound heat, contour irregularities, and fluid accumulation. Patients must also manage travel-specific issues such as deep vein thrombosis from flying. Choosing surgeons certified by the Mexican Council of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery helps ensure high safety standards.

  • Thermal injuries: Ultrasound probes generate heat that may cause skin burns if not precisely controlled.
  • Fluid management:Seromas or hematomas might develop, and a doctor may need to drain them during the initial recovery.
  • Fibrosis risks: Some patients report hardened scar tissue or uneven contours that appear months after surgery.
  • Travel logistics: Flying increases blood clot risks, so a stay of 7 to 14 days is usually needed.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While patients focus on surgery, the experience gap in Cancún is significant. Dr. Arturo Valdez at Azuna Medical Center has performed over 2,000 surgeries. His experience offers a safety cushion that lower-volume clinics cannot match. Always confirm if your clinic includes lymphatic drainage sessions. This specialized massage is vital to prevent the prolonged swelling that often occurs after VASER.

Patient Consensus: Many patients are surprised by the intense swelling and the burden of compression garments. Patients emphasize that recovery is not a vacation. Leakage of anesthetic fluid and unexpected drains are common realities.

What is VASER liposuction and how does it work in Cancun clinics?

VASER liposuction in Cancun uses ultrasonic energy to emulsify fat cells before removal. This technology targets fat while preserving connective tissue, nerves, and blood vessels. Clinics like Riviera Institute For Plastic Surgery use these high-definition techniques. They improve body contouring precision and skin retraction.

  • Ultrasound technology: Specialized probes emit sound waves to liquefy fat for gentler suction.
  • Expert surgeons: Doctors like Rafael Velasco Marin offer over 30 years of surgical experience.
  • Accredited facilities: Top centers have JCI accreditation, so they meet international patient safety standards.
  • International standards: Surgeons often hold memberships in ASPS and ISAPS for aesthetic excellence.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Cancun clinics often specialize in high-definition 4K liposculpture rather than just standard fat removal. Dr. Arturo Valdez at Azuna Medical Center has performed over 2,000 surgeries using these methods. Choosing a surgeon with this specific volume often leads to better-defined results in waist contouring.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that VASER is a surgical procedure. You'll need to wear a compression garment for weeks. Success depends on surgeon skill. The technology alone does not guarantee muscle definition.
