Trustworthy, reassuring and all round lovely Dr and person About the Doctor: Trustworthy, reassuring and all round lovely Dr and person About the Clinic: Yes - overall support was brilliant
Trustworthy, reassuring and all round lovely Dr and person Thank you - excited be able to enjoy life again! Yes - overall support was brilliant. Fouad from Bookimed was so patient with me and so helpful, and not sure Teresa ever sleeps. Thank you both! However due to timing I think the initial 24 hours I assume would be better usually, but it is holiday season - I think better expectation setting there and having someone on hand at departure who could inform me of the steps and answer my questions - but despite this I am sure the follow up for me in that short window would not being the usual experience as otherwise the support was amazing and I was given time during holidays by Dr G which I value and appreciate - it is an important time of the process though so I would recommend having someone like Mercedes on hand! It’s scary seeing yourself after surgery and I was left feeling very unaware for nearly 48 hours! I do want to highlight that everyone in the hospital was great and professional the two nurses who looked after me directly after the surgery were so lovely and obviously all involved in the surgery and end to end treatment - but extra special thanks to you Mercedes - a really special human and very valuable member and representative of the organisation and hospital! Thank you

There was only one seal, so I advise you to make the documents more official, so that you would not be so scared to pay for the consultation
Passed online consultation. After the consultation, a treatment plan was created, which we will undergo, further consultations will continue. Online consultation is very convenient and of course there were some doubts, especially when the invoice was billed, because it was a bit confusing, there was only one seal, so I advise you to make the documents more official, so that you would not be so scared to pay for the consultation.

FAQ about Open rhinoplasty in Spain

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Does open rhinoplasty leave visible scars?

Open rhinoplasty leaves a small, external incision on the columella that typically becomes virtually invisible within months. While this technique involves a tiny inverted-V or W-shaped cut, skilled surgeons place it in natural creases to ensure it heals into a flat, faint line.

  • Incision site: Surgeons make a small cut on the tissue strip between nostrils.
  • Healing timeline: Columellar scars often become unnoticeable in months, maturing fully within 2 years.
  • Visible outcome: The scar typically fades into a thin, barely noticeable line under the nose.
  • Closed alternative: Closed rhinoplasty leaves no external scarring as all incisions remain inside nostrils.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Spanish clinics like Centro Médico Teknon utilize 3D simulation and ultrasonic tools to minimize tissue trauma. Dr. Javier Herrero Jover has performed 10,000 procedures using these methods. This precision significantly improves scar quality compared to traditional manual instruments used in standard surgeries.

Patient Consensus: Most patients report that the columellar scar is rarely a concern. They emphasize that following post-operative care, like using SPF and silicone gels, makes the mark almost impossible to find.

What is the difference between open and closed rhinoplasty?

Open rhinoplasty involves a small external incision across the columella for direct structural visibility, while closed rhinoplasty uses internal incisions with no external scarring. Open techniques provide superior precision for complex reconstructions, whereas closed methods allow for faster recovery in primary dorsal reductions.

  • Surgical access: Open approach lifts nasal skin for unrestricted view of underlying cartilage.
  • Scarring profile: Closed rhinoplasty leaves no visible scars; open scars usually fade completely.
  • Best application: Surgeons prefer open techniques for structural, asymmetric, or difficult revision cases.
  • Technological integration: Spanish centers like Centro Médico Teknon use 3D planning for both approaches.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Spanish plastic surgery centers often integrate advanced tools like computer-assisted navigation and ultrasonic rhinoplasty with the open approach. At clinics like ANDSURGEONS, these digital planning tools maximize the precision of open incisions. While open rhinoplasty in Spain ranges from Price on request to Price on request , the added cost often covers high-tech visualization that reduces long-term revision risks.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that the external columellar scar from open surgery typically fades into a natural crease. Most advise choosing a surgeon based on their structural expertise rather than focusing strictly on the incision method.

How long is the recovery period for open rhinoplasty?

Recovery after open rhinoplasty takes 12 to 24 months for final results, though most patients resume normal routines within 2 weeks. Visible swelling and bruising typically peak on days 3 or 4, with surgical splints and stitches removed around day 7 in JCI-accredited clinics.

  • Professional return: Return to remote work within 7 days or in-person roles after 2 to 3 weeks.
  • Surgical follow-up: Clinic visits for cast and stitch removal typically occur on day 6 or 7.
  • Activity restrictions: Avoid exercise for 4 weeks and refrain from wearing glasses for 6 weeks.
  • Healing milestones: Expect 90% of swelling to subside by 6 months; the tip heals last.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many websites focus on cost, Spanish clinics like Centro Médico Teknon differentiate themselves through technology. Expert surgeons like Dr. Javier Herrero Jover use 3D simulation and virtual planning to map out internal healing before the first incision. This precision often leads to more predictable timelines for tip refinement, which usually takes the longest to settle.

Patient Consensus: Expect days 3 and 4 to be the most uncomfortable for swelling. Plan for a 10-day stay in Spain to ensure you can travel home safely after your final check-up.

What should I ask my surgeon in Spain?

Ask your surgeon about their experience with ultrasonic rhinoplasty and 3D surgical planning to ensure high-precision results. Verify if they are members of the Spanish Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (SECPRE) and request a personalized timeline for managing swelling, which lasts approximately 9 to 18 months.

  • Surgical planning: Ask if they use 3D simulation to preview outcomes before the procedure.
  • Technique specifics: Confirm if they perform columella lowering or de-rotation for complex tip adjustments.
  • Surgeon credentials: Verify membership in SECPRE or the European Board of Plastic Surgery (EBOPRAS).
  • Revision policy: Inquire about their protocol and costs if a secondary revision becomes necessary.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Spain’s top tier of surgeons, like Dr. Javier Herrero Jover at Centro Médico Teknon, pioneer virtual navigation and 3D imaging. These tools significantly reduce operative uncertainty. When choosing a clinic, prioritize those with Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation, as this gold standard reflects the highest safety protocols seen in only a few elite Spanish facilities.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize requesting before-and-after photos specifically matching your anatomy, such as thick skin or dorsal humps. Many advise using video consultations to clarify cleaning protocols and cast removal before traveling for surgery.
