It was a terrible experience which I never want to go through again. Upon arrival at the hospital, the consultant , Jeab who led me there was not present to receive me. Instead I was attended by the medical sstaff who flatly shot down the agreed quotations offered by Jeab and even said they do not need the VDO anymore so they could not offer me what Jeab did and I was told I had to pay 3 times the proce of what I was offered before. Consequent to the price dispute, there were lots of bleak moments between the consultant and the medical staff internally then I was made to wait for over two hours then they suddenly reversed to ask for VDO compromised on an agreed price. I repeated said no to revealing my face for the VDO and the secretary Kimmy assured me my face will not be shown on camera. Prior to seeing the doctor, I was told to made payment first. For every doctor consultation, I had to go to the cashier to complete the payment and I was seeing two different doctors meant I had to repeat same process twice touring the entire medical centre so many times. What was most stupid was that I was never informed that I had to pay out of pocket for the Covid-9 test which I deem really unfair when there was konsixh prior information and they just dumped all the hidden cost on me. I only did the arm Vader+body tite along with pick laser for vaginal and I was made to go from building to building spending 7 hours there the entire day is really uncalled for!!!
The attending doctors are both very professional.
Medical staff lacks the professional etiquettes

FAQ about Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells Therapy in Thailand

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Is iPSC therapy legal in Thailand?

Induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) therapy is legal in Thailand but remains highly specialized. The Medical Council of Thailand and Thai FDA regulate these advanced regenerative treatments. Most procedures occur in JCI-accredited hospitals using GMP-certified laboratories to ensure cell safety and ethical processing standards.

  • Regulatory oversight: Thai FDA and Ministry of Public Health monitor all cellular therapies.
  • Clinical standards: Reputable facilities must utilize GMP-certified laboratories for processing iPSC lines.
  • Institutional accreditation: Leading centers like KDMS Specialized Orthopedic Hospital maintain high safety ratings.
  • Experimental status: Many advanced iPSC applications are considered experimental despite legal availability.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Thailand ranks as the second most requested destination for advanced treatments globally. While MSCs are common, KDMS Specialized Orthopedic Hospital reflects a shift toward specialized niche clinics. These facilities often combine orthopedic expertise with regenerative medicine for 1,000+ patients annually.

Patient Consensus: Some patients report that therapy operates in a complex regulatory environment compared to Western countries. Individuals suggest verifying clinic licenses directly as official oversight can feel less centralized.

What conditions are treated with iPSCs in Thailand?

Thai medical centers treat advanced neurodegenerative, metabolic, and cardiovascular conditions using induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). Specialized protocols target Parkinson disease, Type 1 diabetes, and heart failure by reprogramming cells into specific tissues. Leading research facilities in Bangkok also address genetic blood disorders like Thalassemia.

  • Neurological disorders: Targets Parkinson disease, Alzheimer disease, and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
  • Metabolic conditions: Regenerates hormone-producing cells for Type 1 Diabetes and Hypothyroidism.
  • Cardiac regeneration: Uses iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes to repair tissue after congestive heart failure.
  • Specialized injuries: Addresses spinal cord damage, ataxia, and severe traumatic brain injuries.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many search for neurological cures, iPSCs in Thailand show high demand for anti-aging. Real-world applications often favor skin rejuvenation over complex disease treatment. Check if clinics offer video calls with former patients. This transparency helps verify claims beyond standard marketing materials. Thailand ranks second globally for medical tourism requests on Bookimed. This high volume ensures doctors manage diverse patient cases frequently.

Patient Consensus: Patients report partial mobility gains in spinal cord treatments but advise tracking outcomes with independent MRIs. Many suggest budgeting for triple the advertised costs to cover travel and resort-based recovery.

How do I choose a reputable clinic?

Choosing a reputable clinic for induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) in Thailand requires verifying JCI accreditation and international research affiliations. Select facilities that provide peer-reviewed data from phase 2 or 3 clinical trials and employ surgeons with verified International Society for Stem Cell Research (ISSCR) memberships.

  • Clinical trial data: Request specific phase 2 or 3 trial results for your condition.
  • International oversight: Prioritize clinics with JCI accreditation and Western-trained medical directors.
  • Surgeon credentials: Verify specialized training and recent research publications on PubMed or Google Scholar.
  • Regulatory compliance: Confirm the facility holds Thai FDA approval specifically for regenerative medicine applications.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Thailand ranks second globally for medical tourism volume with 146 specialized clinics. Data shows that high-capacity facilities like KDMS Hospital serve 1,000 patients annually despite being founded recently. Experience peaks at hospitals with over 50 dedicated doctors and multiple specialized departments.

Patient Consensus: Many advise extreme caution regarding anti-aging hype and recommend scheduling an independent consultation with a domestic specialist first. Ensure you have comprehensive evacuation insurance to cover any potential complications from experimental protocols.

Are there clinical trials available for iPSCs in Thailand?

No active interventional clinical trials currently offer induced pluripotent stem cell therapies for direct patient treatment in Thailand. Current research focusing on iPSCs remains in the laboratory stage. Most clinical applications in Thai medical centers utilize mesenchymal stem cells for orthopedic and degenerative conditions.

  • Research focus: Mahidol University established clinical-grade iPSC lines for future human applications.
  • Disease modeling: Labs use iPSCs to study genetic blood disorders and beta-thalassemia treatments.
  • Pre-clinical status: Chulalongkorn University creates transplantation platforms for insulin-producing cells in 2025.
  • Regulatory tracking: Patients must verify any trial claims through the Thai Clinical Trials Registry.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Thailand maintains 146 clinics serving over 580 international requests for regenerative medicine. This high volume focuses almost exclusively on mesenchymal stem cells for joints. True iPSC applications are significantly more complex. You should treat any clinic offering paid iPSC injections as experimental. These are not part of registered, peer-reviewed clinical trials.

Patient Consensus: Many patients report significant concerns regarding unregulated clinics offering iPSCs for profit rather than research. Real clinical trials for these specific cells are currently centralized in Japan or the United States.
