Everything went perfectly
I was initially concerned about the logistics of traveling for a procedure, but the whole experience was very well organized. Everything went perfectly. I’m recovering well without any problems, and I am very satisfied with the treatment and the entire process. The surgeon clearly explained the extraction and implantation steps, which was reassuring. The team was helpful and professional, making it easy to ask any questions before arriving. While post-procedure support has been a little slow to respond, I am still very satisfied. My advice for future patients: follow the clinic’s instructions carefully and bring comfortable button-up shirts.

If you're considering this, you need to be aware of what can happen. Everything changed on the day of my procedure. I originally received an offer from Adem&Havva clinic for a DHI transplant 4000-4500 grafts with Dr.Fuzun, but I "did the hair transplant at Scala clinic(they colaborate together)with Dr.Cengiz Yaylaci 3600 grafts Fue Sapphire... I didnt knew the Dr. change or the tehnique change." The surgeon was rushed, spoke no English, and only made incisions after a technician drew my hairline. It’s too early to tell about the results. I feel Bookimed should care about their clients, not just money. My advice: if they change anything last minute, stand up and leave.Dont trust Bookimed!
Stay away!!!!I received a offer from Adem& Havva for DHI ,4000-4500 grafts but did the hair transplant at Scala clinic(colaborators) with Dr.Cengiz Yaylaci 3600 grafts Fue Sapphire hair transplantation.I didnt knew the Dr. change or the tehnique change , the first meeting was with a tehnician lady. They use Adem& Havva and reputation of Dr.Fuzun to bait clients and then they switch in the same day with the Hair Transplant .Bookimed knows but they dont care.Run!!!

Everyone involved was excellent
My biggest concern was organizing a medical trip abroad. This concern was unfounded. The entire process was very well organized, from airport transfers and hotel accommodation to the procedure itself and the return transfer. Everyone involved was excellent. I was particularly impressed with my doctor: He was honest about the realistic results, clearly explained the entire DHI process, and mapped out the new hairline with me before the procedure. During the transplantation of over 5,000 grafts, I felt well taken care of. The clinic continues to stay in touch.

Whether it's the doctors, nurses or reception staff, many other hospitals should take inspiration from the Turkish hospital model
The quality of the hospital service is second to none, with well-organised, highly competent services that are always available to patients. Whether it's the doctors, nurses or reception staff, many other hospitals should take inspiration from the Turkish hospital model. The hospitals are like luxury hotels, you feel good, you are looked after and followed throughout your stay. Finally, the money I spent there was really justified. Thank you to everyone who looked after me during my 14-day stay. Of course I recommend Istanbul Memorial Hospital. Antonio. M

I give the highest mark to all these people and services
I would like to tell you about my case from the very beginning. A few years ago I approached the coordinator Stanislav about a hair transplant. He told me everything in general terms, what I was interested in, and made me interested in the proposal. I also explained that my work directly depends on my physical condition and I do not have a long break between contracts (my position is an aerial gymnast) and somehow this idea was put aside for 2 years and quite by chance we once again broached the subject of hair and literally in 3 days Stanislav was able to organise a clinic, a doctor, an interpreter, a hotel, and I was required to get tickets. Everything was organised as I said earlier in 3 days and that was it I am already in the hotel with transplanted hair and waiting for the result) if I evaluate all aspects of the service, clinic, doctors and hotel, I give the highest mark to all these people and services. Huge thanks to Stanislav, who helped me to agree even on the financial side, making it more favourable.

The staff were incredibly supportive and attentive; I would give them 5/5 without hesitation
If I were asked to describe my experience in one word, I would say ‘well-balanced’. The Sapphire FUE procedure, during which 4,000–5,000 grafts were transplanted, went exactly to plan. The staff were incredibly supportive and attentive; I would give them 5/5 without hesitation. As for the surgeon’s work and the clinic itself, there are a couple of areas that could be improved, so I’d give them a 4/5. Recovery is going well: there’s a slight tightness in the donor area, but it’s not a big deal. New stubble is already starting to grow. The main thing is that it’s perfectly possible to sleep — the neck pillow really does help. I would recommend this place to my friends with an 8 out of 10 rating.

Dr Hakan in particular, he was very attentive, friendly and open, explained everything and took care of us
I am grateful to bookmed for helping me choose a clinic. Everything that was promised was fulfilled in full! We were met and organised everything very efficiently in terms of time. The interpreter Akilai was very good, she solved all our queries and questions very quickly and was available 24/7. Dr Hakan - hair transplant and Dr Ibrahim Renoseptoplasty are very competent. I would like to mention Dr Hakan in particular, he was very attentive, friendly and open, explained everything and took care of us...The doctors did a great job and now everything depends on how carefully their recommendations will be followed during the rehabilitation period.

The wife is smart
My wife made a surprise - a trip to Turkey and a hair transplant. I found out about this within a few hours. I liked the clinic. We met at the airport. True, there was a tire puncture and we sold it in about 40 minutes. We were given 5 stars. Quite good with a good breakfast. It is not located in the very center, but getting there by taxi is no problem. About 20 minutes. The transplant took about 6 hours. First, they take blood for analysis. AIDS and all that. Then they shave. Next, a lot of anesthesia is injected into the donor area. 30 injections. More unpleasant than painful. Then they begin to shave and pull out the follicles. They said they took 4500. I didn’t count. Next, about 30 injections into the transplant area. Well, they start planting follicles like mushrooms. It feels like you're piercing cardboard with a pen. No pain. Between procedures they provide excellent food. Then bandage and go home. This is the most unpleasant and painful topic an hour before the end. The painkillers began to wear off and this was much worse than the injections themselves. But everything is tolerable. Childbirth is probably more painful. I liked everything except the woman doctor. She addressed me not as a patient, but as a bad boss addressing a subordinate. Always twice, but that was enough for me. "Mister, stand up!" the tone of the German officer is not exactly what I would like to hear. But the translator Olga worked 200%. She still supervises me and is always in touch. The director is a great guy. By the way, the assistant is also great. I recommend the clinic. The wife is smart. A good choice and most importantly, they didn’t try to bully me about the need for two trips for an amount many times more than I paid. I will see the result only in a year. In the meantime, only 12 days have passed. And, for the first time, it will be very difficult to sleep on your back. It's not a dream. You need to make sure you don’t scratch your head, lie down on it, and so on. But it's worth it. Good luck.

The clinic staff have been incredibly attentive, which has made these first few weeks much easier
To be honest, my biggest fear was that the asymmetry of my nostrils—the main issue with my first operation—couldn’t be corrected. The surgeon calmly explained the open approach he would use and put me completely at ease. Now, just 15 days on, the recovery process is progressing well. Although it’s too early to judge the bridge of my nose, I can already see that the tip of my nose has improved projection. The clinic staff have been incredibly attentive, which has made these first few weeks much easier. I am grateful for the care I have received.
The doctor is an incredible person on a personal level, and as a doctor, he’s one of the top three in the world

Overall, the organisation of the entire process was of a high standard
My main concern was the pain associated with the procedure itself and the subsequent recovery. Fortunately, my fears proved unfounded. I underwent a DHI transplant, with a total of between 4,000 and 5,000 grafts transplanted. Now, 15 days on, the healing process is progressing normally. The only thing is that the donor area remains sensitive to touch, but this is to be expected during recovery. The coordination and work of the clinic staff were clear and straightforward at every stage. The surgeon and his team worked very smoothly together. Overall, the organisation of the entire process was of a high standard.

The surgeon and the clinic staff handled the technical side with systematic efficiency, making the entire process feel very controlled
My biggest concern was the recovery period and whether the DHI method would leave visible scarring or unbearable pain. Two weeks later, the reality is much more manageable than I anticipated during my initial research. The team transplanted between 4000 and 5000 grafts, and the precision of the work is evident as I navigate these first fifteen days of healing. Currently, I only feel a slight tightness in the donor area, which is a common sensation at this stage. The surgeon and the clinic staff handled the technical side with systematic efficiency, making the entire process feel very controlled. It takes real patience. For anyone looking into this, focusing on the post-op care instructions is just as vital as the surgery itself.

The surgeon and staff were precise throughout the process, ensuring the technical details were handled correctly
My biggest concern before arriving was the recovery process and whether placing 4000-5000 grafts would feel overwhelming during the initial healing phase. Two weeks after the Sapphire FUE procedure, the most prominent sensation is a slight tightness in the donor area, which is manageable and seems to be improving daily. The surgeon and staff were precise throughout the process, ensuring the technical details were handled correctly. Right now, new stubble is already growing in the recipient area. The progress is visible. I spent a lot of time researching the sapphire method because of its precision for high-density transplants. While the early days required some patience, the current results seem to be on track. The clinic followed all protocols strictly. I am monitoring the growth closely.
The organisation was simply brilliant! The staff were polite and professional, and our coordinator, Bibi, was always on hand; any issues were resolved quickly and professionally! The driver was very thoughtful and punctual, and the hotel was superb. Everything was thought through down to the smallest detail. I’m absolutely delighted!

Thank you very much to her for her timely and quick help throughout the entire period
Everything went quite well....first of all, of course, thanks to the girl Natalia Bruyaka, who was always in touch and helped solve all the questions that I had along the way...Thank you very much to her for her timely and quick help on throughout the entire period... Everything was organized well... we were met at the airport, a VIP transfer, a black Mercedes, the driver, unfortunately, I don’t remember his name - a great guy, just an ace, took him to the hotel... Everything in the hotel super, 5 stars, good finishing, excellent staff, we were accommodated on the 8th floor, with a beautiful view of the city.... The next day we arrived at the clinic... They paid there, and without delay, they invited us to the operating room... The team is excellent , young guys and girls, cheerful and relaxed, (they even sang songs during the transplant)... the transplant went quite quickly, they got it done in 5 hours, because the people know their stuff, they are all true professionals, both the doctor and the guy, who drew the hair line, and the girls who were assistants....Everything is at the highest level..The transplant itself is painless, only at the very beginning, when the painkiller was administered, it was a little painful, but it lasted about 10 minutes.. In general, I am satisfied with the transplant itself , I hope that the result will not be good, we’ll see in a year.. Then we were taken back to the hotel, and I spent that day in the room, did not go anywhere.... The next day I had a rest day, and the hotel staff organized a tour for us to the historical center of Istanbul... We had a great time there, and a day later they took me back to the clinic, showed me and washed my hair, and the ace driver took us to the airport... Bottom line: without much strain, I had a hair transplant and my wife and I had a great time in Istanbul, trying different dishes, making excursions and having the opportunity to shop... Thank you very much to those people who organize such tours and carry out such work... I am very grateful to them...

All in all, I fully recommend this clinic
From the first contact, the support team were very accommodating, professional and was helpful to answer any of my queries. I arrived Istanbul slightly earlier before my hair transplant date to go sightseeing, and they were able to accommodate my schedule including pickup and drop of to airport. They even went above and beyond by helping me to get a transfer from the hotel that I I initially stayed to another hotel that was provided by them. The facilities of the clinic was quite good, and they had the necessary staff that would make or break a good surgery. The Dr spoke good English, was full of empathy of how I felt about my hair, and provided a recommendation on what I needed to do in line with what I wanted to achieve. The transplant was smooth even though it was quite long. However, with the medications they give you, it's not that bad. This also depends on how many grafts you intend to do. I initially thought I was going to be in a lot of pain during and a few days after the operation, but thankfully none of that happened to me. I didn't even have swelling. All in all, I fully recommend this clinic. I'm currently on Day 3, so I have yet to see the results, but so far everything looks okay and is healing quite well
Everything from start to finish was handled very well for me. The clinic and Bookimed were very accommodating to whatever I needed. Very minimal planning on my end because they already handled it
Tbh, everything was good.

FAQ about treatment in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Which techniques are most popular for hair transplant in Ankara clinics?

Ankara offers several popular hair transplant techniques. These include Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE), Sapphire FUE, and Direct Hair Implantation (DHI). These methods provide natural results and high graft survival. The procedures are minimally invasive. They are offered at Joint Commission International (JCI) accredited facilities like Private Koru Ankara Hospital.

  • FUE extraction: This standard technique harvests individual follicles. It causes minimal scarring and speeds up recovery.
  • Sapphire FUE: Sapphire-tipped blades create cleaner incisions. This improves density and speeds up healing.
  • DHI method: A Choi pen implants grafts directly. This gives precise control over hairline angle and direction.
  • Advanced FUE: Large-volume sessions at centers like Memorial Ankara Hospital handle up to 5,000 grafts.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Ankara clinics often differentiate by surgeon involvement rather than just machine names. For example, at Prof. Dr. Furkan Karabekmez Plastic Surgery Clinic, the surgeon personally performs all procedures. This helps ensure higher graft survival than clinics that rely solely on technicians.

Patient Consensus: Patients often recommend prioritizing surgeons who personally handle incisions and implantation. This matters more than just clinic labels. Success is often more about the surgeon's skill than the specific tool brand. Sapphire blades are just one example.

Do I need to shave my hair for a hair transplant in Ankara?

You do not have to shave your head for a hair transplant in Ankara. Modern clinics offer unshaven DHI or partially shaved FUE techniques, so you can keep your existing hair length. Surgeons precisely transplant grafts between long hairs.

  • DHI technique: Precision tools place grafts without disturbing the surrounding long hair in minor cases.
  • Partial shaving: Surgeons shave only a small donor strip that existing hair easily hides.
  • Full shaving: Recommended for extensive hair loss. A full shave helps with graft survival and density.
  • On-site prep: Do not shave beforehand. Ankara clinics handle trimming during the consultation.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Unshaven options are popular for discretion, yet full-shave procedures often produce the highest density results in Ankara. Specialized centers like Memorial Ankara Hospital and Private Koru Ankara Hospital provide JCI-accredited care where doctors focus on graft visibility. If you need more than 3,000 grafts, expect a full-shave recommendation for better alignment.

Patient Consensus: Patients tend to prefer partial shaving. It hides the recovery process and avoids a visible buzzcut. Still, most agree on one point: ask the clinic about per-graft pricing for unshaven options before you book.

Why choose Ankara for a hair transplant instead of Istanbul?

Ankara offers a focused, surgeon-led hair transplant experience. It emphasizes individualized medical care over high-volume commercialism. Istanbul serves as a massive medical hub. However, Ankara clinics like Prof. Dr. Furkan Karabekmez Plastic Surgery involve lead surgeons directly in surgical steps. This helps maintain consistent quality.

  • Surgeon involvement: Lead surgeons often personally perform graft extraction and site creation instead of delegating.
  • Clinical environment: Ankara clinics typically treat fewer daily patients, so they can give detailed 45-minute donor assessments.
  • Reduced congestion: Lower traffic levels simplify post-operative travel from facilities like Memorial Ankara Hospital.
  • High-level credentials: Local specialists often hold certifications from EBOPRAS or the Turkish Medical Association.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Istanbul dominates the budget market. However, Ankara has become a boutique alternative for complex cases. Data shows specialized clinics here maintain a strict 1-doctor-to-1-patient ratio. Prof. Dr. Furkan Karabekmez’s practice is one example. This ratio prevents supervisor fatigue. In larger hubs, one surgeon might oversee 6 daily procedures, making fatigue more likely. Choosing Ankara usually means you pay for surgical hours instead of aggressive marketing campaigns.

Patient Consensus: Patients value the slower pace in Ankara, noting that consultations feel thorough rather than transactional. They often choose the capital to avoid the frantic airport-to-clinic logistics of larger, more crowded cities.

Who performs the surgery in top Ankara clinics?

Top-rated Ankara clinics have highly experienced professors and surgeons. They hold international credentials like the European Board of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (EBOPRAS). These specialists often lead the entire procedure. They handle crucial steps from hairline design to extraction and incisions in JCI-accredited facilities.

  • Surgeon credentials: Professors like Dr. Furkan Karabekmez hold EBOPRAS certification and have Mayo Clinic training.
  • Direct surgeon involvement: Leading specialists personally perform all procedures rather than delegating to technicians.
  • Hospital accreditation: Surgeries take place in Joint Commission International (JCI) accredited facilities like Private Koru Ankara Hospital.
  • Clinical expertise: Facilities use tools like Da Vinci robotic systems and TrueBeam STx technology.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Ankara clinics stand out by treating fewer patients than larger centers. For example, Prof. Dr. Furkan Karabekmez treats about 600 patients annually. This allows for personalized care. The lead surgeon, rather than a technician, manages every critical phase of the surgery.

Patient Consensus: Patients favor Ankara specifically to avoid assembly-line clinics. They emphasize verifying that the lead doctor personally handles the hairline design and incisions. This leads to natural results.

Is hair transplant in Ankara safe?

Hair transplant in Ankara is safe when performed in JCI-accredited hospitals. It is also safe in clinics run by board-certified plastic surgeons. The city hosts facilities like Memorial Ankara Hospital and Private Koru Ankara Hospital, which follow strict international protocols for sterilization and patient safety.

  • Surgeon credentials: Look for specialists certified by the European Board of Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (EBOPRAS).
  • Facility standards: Accredited hospitals like Acibadem Ankara provide sterile environments and emergency support.
  • Doctor involvement: Safe clinics have surgeons perform the channel opening, not technicians.
  • Patient safety: JCI-accredited facilities have lower infection rates because they follow standardized medical protocols.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Ankara stands out because its top surgeons often work within large multi-specialty hospitals. Clinics like Furkan Karabekmez Plastic Surgery use internationally accredited facilities like Acibadem for procedures. This provides a safety net that smaller boutique clinics in other cities may lack. These hospitals treat over 350,000 patients annually and have high-tech emergency infrastructure.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that safety depends on choosing a specific surgeon rather than a clinic brand. Traveling to Ankara alone is logistically safe, as long as you avoid high-volume hair mills.

What techniques are commonly used for hair transplant in Ankara?

Ankara clinics focus on surgeon-led hair restoration. They use manual Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) and Direct Hair Implantation (DHI). These methods use micro-punches and stick-and-place placement to protect graft viability. High-volume centers like Private Koru Ankara Hospital hold JCI accreditation. They also offer beard-to-scalp transplants for patients with limited donor areas.

  • Manual FUE: Surgeons extract follicles by hand to boost graft survival and safety.
  • DHI technique: Choi implanter pens place hair directly without pre-cut channels for precise density.
  • Stick-and-place: Incisions and graft implants happen at the same time to improve graft integration and cooling.
  • BHT expansion: Beard grafts add coverage when scalp hair is too thin for full restoration.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Patient data shows a clear split in Ankara between technician-led and surgeon-led clinics. Many global hubs use automated systems. In Ankara, leading practitioners handle extraction and implantation themselves. Surgeons like Prof. Dr. Furkan Karabekmez keep high ratings by performing complex procedures personally in accredited facilities.

Patient Consensus: Patients stress the need to find out who actually performs the surgery. They recommend choosing surgeon-led manual extraction over automated methods. The result is often a more natural look and higher graft survival.

How long should I stay in Ankara after a hair transplant?

Plan a 3- to 4-day stay in Ankara for the surgery and essential post-operative care. The stay includes the follicular unit extraction surgery and essential medical checks. You'll also have a professional first hair wash, which is crucial for graft health.

  • Minimum stay: Arrive 1 day before surgery and depart 2 days after the procedure.
  • Graft security: Stay at least 72 hours to protect grafts when the risk of dislodgement is highest.
  • Clinical check: Schedule the first wash and bandage removal for day 3 or 4.
  • Extended recovery: A 7-day stay helps manage donor area discomfort and visible scalp swelling.

Bookimed Expert Insight: A 3-day trip is common. Clinics like Memorial Ankara Hospital or Private Koru Ankara Hospital, however, offer extra safety. They have multi-specialty infrastructure. These large centers give you immediate access to specialists if rare complications occur. Smaller boutique clinics may not offer this. Coordination data shows that patients using the free VIP transfers are much calmer. This is especially true during the critical 48 hours when grafts need protection.

Patient Consensus: Many travelers feel a 3-night stay is enough if transport is handled well. Staying a full week, however, eases flying anxiety a lot. Patients often recommend resting instead of sightseeing. This helps avoid sun exposure and sweating right after the procedure.

Will I need to shave my hair for a hair transplant in Ankara?

You do not always need to shave your hair for a transplant in Ankara. Traditional FUE often requires a full buzz cut. However, clinics offer partial shave or unshaven DHI techniques. These methods allow you to keep your existing hair length for immediate privacy.

  • Full shave: Needed for large cases over 3,000 grafts. This gives the surgeon clear visibility and allows dense packing.
  • Partial shave: Clinics trim a small donor strip easily hidden by surrounding long hair.
  • Unshaven DHI: The surgeon implants grafts without shaving the recipient area. This is ideal for smaller sessions.
  • Cost impact: Unshaven techniques usually cost more because they are more difficult and time-consuming.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Ankara clinics like Private Koru Hospital often use systems such as Da Vinci robotics for other surgeries. This reflects a high technical standard that supports delicate, unshaven procedures. Data shows that opting for a partial shave is a strategic middle ground. It lowers costs compared to full no-shave DHI while keeping the donor area discreet.

Patient Consensus: Patients often recommend a partial shave. It lets them keep enough hair on top to hide receding areas during recovery. They also say that blending the shaved donor site into longer hair helps. This keeps the look natural while the hair grows back.

How many grafts can I expect in a single hair transplant session in Ankara?

In a single session in Ankara, patients typically get 3,000–5,000 grafts. However, standard sessions often focus on 2,000–3,000 grafts, while mega-sessions can transplant over 5,000. For example, Memorial Ankara Hospital offers mega-sessions to address extensive hair loss.

  • Standard session range: Most clinics provide 2,000 to 3,500 grafts during a 6-8 hour procedure.
  • Mega-session capacity: Top centers offer up to 5,000 grafts in one day for advanced stages.
  • Multi-day approach: Conservative surgeons often split 4,500+ graft cases over 2 to 3 days.
  • Safety limitations: Experts often cap single-day extractions at 5,000 grafts to prevent donor area overharvesting.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Clinics like Private Koru Ankara Hospital serve over 350,000 patients annually with JCI-accredited standards. However, graft limits are often about quality over quantity. Ankara’s surgeons frequently prefer splitting 4,000+ graft procedures into two-day sessions. A slower pace protects the donor area. It also means higher follicle survival rates than rushed one-day sessions.
