I am delighted with their work
Thank you for everything being fine. Of course there were cons, but in general everything was fine. I really liked it, the meeting was organized, Medipol worked harmoniously. The managers from the clinic helped completely. There is a room with three meals a day, the room is clean, they did not require additional payment. The clinic is very specialized, individual approach to each patient, polite and attentive. Many thanks also to Dmitry and the coordinators in the clinic. Irada, Ainur, Timur, Iran many thanks to each of them for their help with any question and help at any time of the day. In general, I liked everything very much and the quality of work, they move as a single mechanism. Thank you, I am delighted with their work.

"All your work is very harmonious, everything is available
Good afternoon. Thank you very much for the help! All your work is very harmonious, everything is available. True, everything is at the highest level: 1. Your work with Victoria is lovely. To withstand all our questions (often repeated) and with angelic patience to answer them is a talent! 2. Suleiman - well done! all coordinate, organize in Istanbul. It is simply brilliant! 3. Girls translators are very polite, attentive. Thanks to them separately, they were our "language" in the clinic. Sofia's parents also thank the doctor (unfortunately, I did not see her). The doctor did take a careful look at Sofia, explained everything in detail, explained why PET / CT should not be done in this case, told in all nuances, Sofia's parents were pleasantly surprised by the approach to the work of this specialist.

The stay in the clinic left only positive emotions
The stay in the clinic left only positive emotions. On the organization's questions, if they were before the arrival at the clinic, then after the arrival the questions disappeared by themselves, everything was organized perfectly, any wishes were fulfilled. The doctor took it immediately on the day of arrival, everything that was planned was appointed, answered all questions immediately and before and after treatment, left a positive impression. Umnichka translators, it was possible to contact them at almost any time, they always helped. I lived in a guest house, everything is fine. Satisfied with the service

My sister and I were met at the airport, brought to the apartment of the clinic, I note the apartment is very cozy and comfortable with everything you need, the payment is sufficient for any person
I am generally pleased with the clinic and the work of the coordinator. My sister and I were met at the airport, brought to the apartment of the clinic, I note the apartment is very cozy and comfortable with everything you need, the payment is sufficient for any person. She was given chemotherapy, we will see the results later (only 2 weeks have passed). As for me and my examination at the gynecologist, fibroids and uterine pubescence, they said they urgently need to be operated on for a small amount, while the second opinion was not confirmed in another country, which means the gynecologist is not as qualified and the impression of the doctor is just to do the surgery would get the money I did not like.

Expert Overview about Thyroid cancer Treatment in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Why is Turkey a preferred destination for thyroid cancer treatment?

Turkey is a preferred destination for thyroid cancer treatment due to its advanced technology. Centers like Anadolu Medical Center are affiliated with Johns Hopkins Medicine. Patients access high success rates between 95% and 98%. Facilities use JCI-accredited protocols and robotic surgical systems for precision.

  • Expert surgical volume: Specialists like Dr. Serkan Keskin have performed over 900 thyroid procedures.
  • Advanced nerve protection: Surgeons utilize intraoperative monitoring to prevent permanent vocal cord damage.
  • Affiliated oncology care: Memorial Sisli and Anadolu follow international standards used in the USA.
  • Efficient logistics: Patients avoid waitlists and typically receive immediate diagnostic testing and surgery.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Our data shows thyroid patients prefer Istanbul for its concentrated expertise. Specialized surgeons at Hisar Hospital hold European Board of Endocrine Surgery certifications. This specific credential ensures they meet rigorous continent-wide standards for complex neck surgeries. Choosing these certified experts often results in better preservation of the parathyroid glands.

Patient Consensus: Patients note the relief of having a translator during medical talks. They also emphasize how seamless transport makes the surgical journey much less stressful.

What are the reported success and survival rates for thyroid cancer in Turkish clinics?

Thyroid cancer survival rates in Turkey align with global benchmarks. Early-stage cases often reach 98% to 100% survival. Turkish centers report 98.6% cancer-specific survival for papillary thyroid cancer over 10 years. Expert surgeons utilize robotic and minimally invasive techniques to preserve vocal functions.

  • Survival rates: Papillary thyroid cancer shows 99% survival at 5 years.
  • Long-term outcomes: Follicular cancer maintains a 10-year survival rate near 90%.
  • Surgical precision: Surgeons use nerve monitoring to protect the laryngeal nerves.
  • Advanced diagnostics: PET-CT and genetic testing improve staging accuracy for patients.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Anadolu Medical Center handles over 65,000 operations annually across various specialties. This high volume often correlates with better outcomes in complex endocrine surgeries. Our data shows patients prioritize clinics with international affiliations like Johns Hopkins Medicine. These partnerships ensure local surgeons follow global clinical protocols for thyroidectomy.

Patient Consensus: Patients value how surgeons explain the balance between tumor removal and voice preservation. Most note that coordination services make hospital stays in cities like Istanbul much easier.

How long does recovery and hormonal stabilisation take after thyroid surgery in Turkey?

Physical recovery after thyroid surgery in Turkey typically takes 1 to 2 weeks. Full hormonal stabilization takes 4 to 6 months. Patients generally stay in the hospital for 1 to 2 nights. Surgeons usually clear patients for international flights within 7 days.

  • Hospital stay: Expect 1 to 2 nights for calcium monitoring and initial healing.
  • Return to work: Most patients resume desk work within 7 to 10 days post-surgery.
  • Flight clearance: Surgeons typically approve air travel 5 to 7 days after the procedure.
  • Hormone testing: Endocrinologists check blood levels every 6 to 8 weeks for dosage adjustments.
  • Vocal recovery: Mild hoarseness usually resolves naturally within 4 to 6 weeks.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Stabilization speed depends heavily on the surgery type. Total thyroidectomy requires immediate, lifelong hormone replacement. Partial removals may not need pills if the remaining lobe compensates. Turkish endocrinologists prioritize frequent testing in the first 4 months. This ensures patients reach their optimal dosage safely and quickly.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that neck stiffness is common for the first few days. They emphasize that while physical healing is fast, adjusting to new medication takes patience.

Which hospitals are internationally recognised for thyroid cancer care in Turkey?

Turkish hospitals leading thyroid cancer care hold Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation. Many maintain prestigious global affiliations like Johns Hopkins Medicine. These centers utilize Da Vinci robotic systems and radioactive iodine therapy. Advanced surgeons often hold European endocrine surgery board certifications.

  • Anadolu Medical Center: This facility is an official affiliate of Johns Hopkins Medicine.
  • Memorial Healthcare Group: Memorial was the first in Turkey to achieve JCI accreditation.
  • Expert surgical credentials: Dr. Nuri Alper Sahbaz at Hisar Hospital holds European endocrine qualifications.
  • Success markers: Top centers report 95% to 98% success in complex endocrine surgeries.
  • Advanced diagnostics: Clinics use PET/CT scans and intraoperative nerve monitoring for safety.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Patients should look for centers with TrueBeam STx technology or robotic units. Dr. Serkan Keskin at Memorial has performed over 900 thyroid procedures. High physician volume typically leads to better nerve preservation during surgery. This is vital for protecting your voice and swallowing functions.

Patient Consensus: Patients frequently mention the importance of having an on-site translator for complex medical discussions. Many suggest choosing hospitals that bundle airport transfers to reduce stress after radioactive iodine treatments.

What are the common side effects of radioactive iodine therapy administered in Turkey?

Turkish centers report common short-term side effects like nausea and salivary gland swelling. Symptoms usually appear within 48 hours of treatment. Specialized oncology clinics follow international safety protocols. They provide isolation in lead-lined rooms to manage radiation and monitor early patient reactions.

  • Salivary gland issues: Patients frequently experience swelling or tenderness in the cheeks.
  • Gastrointestinal symptoms: Nausea and vomiting may occur on the day of treatment.
  • Sensory changes: A temporary metallic taste or loss of taste is commonly reported.
  • Neck tenderness: Soreness often occurs at the previous site of the thyroid.
  • Fluid dryness: Dry eyes and mouth are frequent but usually resolve quickly.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish hospitals like Memorial Health Group prioritize intensive monitoring during isolation. Our data shows most clinics include anti-nausea medication in standard protocols. This focus on immediate symptom management helps patients transition safely to recovery. High-volume centers often provide specialized dietary guidance to reduce salivary gland risks.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that sucking on candy helps manage the metallic taste. Many emphasize that doctors provide clear instructions for the isolation period.

Is lifelong medication necessary after thyroid cancer surgery?

Lifelong medication is required if your entire thyroid is removed during surgery. Most patients take levothyroxine daily to replace lost hormones and regulate metabolism. Those undergoing a partial thyroidectomy may avoid permanent medication. About 80% maintain normal hormone levels without supplements after partial removal.

  • Total thyroidectomy: Requires daily hormone replacement since the body cannot produce essential metabolizing hormones.
  • Partial thyroidectomy: The remaining lobe often compensates for loss. Regular monitoring is essential.
  • TSH suppression: Higher doses may prevent cancer recurrence by lowering thyroid-stimulating hormone levels.
  • Calcium regulation: Damage to parathyroid glands may require permanent calcium and Vitamin D supplements.
  • Blood monitoring: Patients need periodic blood tests to ensure hormone levels remain within target range.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish oncology centers like Anadolu Medical Center or Acibadem utilize intraoperative monitoring technology. Surgeons use these tools to protect the parathyroid glands during complex total removals. This precision significantly lowers the risk of needing lifelong calcium supplements. Choosing centers with high-volume thyroid specialists can help preserve these vital structures.

Patient Consensus: Patients mention that taking a daily pill quickly becomes a simple morning routine. They note that staying consistent with blood checks ensures they feel energetic and healthy.
