If a friend asked me about this, I'd tell them the difference is night and day
If a friend asked me about this, I'd tell them the difference is night and day. My knee feels so much better than it did before the surgery, with much less pain. Of course, recovery isn't instant. The biggest challenge for me right now is some morning stiffness, but once I get moving it improves. The clinic staff and surgeon were professional and answered all my questions about the full replacement, which included the kneecap and a Smith & Nephew implant. I can already bend my knee past 90 degrees easily. It was the right decision.

I honestly cannot thank Dr Murat Yaman enough for the care, kindness, and professionalism he showed me throughout my breast surgery journey
I honestly cannot thank Dr Murat Yaman enough for the care, kindness, and professionalism he showed me throughout my breast surgery journey. I travelled from the UK to have a breast lift with implants ( 450 cc motiva implants under the muscle ), and from the very beginning, Dr Yaman made me feel comfortable, reassured, and confident that I was in safe hands. I am so happy with my results so far and I am truly grateful for his skill, attention to detail, and the beautiful work he has done. Not only is Dr Yaman an incredibly talented surgeon, but he is also a genuinely kind and caring person who made me feel looked after while I was away from home. I also want to say a huge thank you to all the staff who cared for me after my breast lift and implant surgery. Every member of the team was amazing, patient, and supportive throughout my recovery, and their kindness meant so much to me, especially during the early days after such a big procedure. Having surgery abroad was a big decision, and I had many emotions going into it, but I always felt that I was being cared for post surgery. I truly appreciate the hospitality, compassion, and dedication shown by Dr Yaman. I would happily recommend Dr Murat Yaman to anyone considering breast surgery. I am extremely pleased with my experience and my results so far, and I am already planning to return next year for another procedure because of the trust and confidence I have in him and his team. Thank you again for everything — I truly appreciate you all. ❤️
What I liked most about my experience with Dr Murat Yaman and his team was how cared for and comfortable I felt throughout my breast surgery journey. From my consultation, I felt listened to and reassured, and Dr Yaman took the time to understand the results I wanted from my breast lift and implants. I really appreciated his professionalism, kindness, and attention to detail. He made me feel confident in my decision and I felt that I was in safe hands throughout the process. The aftercare and support from the staff were also amazing. Everyone who looked after me after surgery was caring, patient, and supportive, which made such a difference while recovering away from home. Overall, what I liked most was the combination of Dr Yaman’s skill, his caring approach, and the genuine hospitality shown by the whole team. I am very happy with my experience and my results so far.

The surgeon and staff were fantastic
The surgeon and staff were fantastic. I'm in the early phase of healing now; while I’m still slightly tired and my mobility is a bit reduced, I can feel myself getting stronger daily. It’s a steady process. Looking back, my only personal regret is that I wish I knew more Turkish to connect with people directly. That said, the translation provided was great and everything was communicated clearly. The whole process was handled with care.
Dorian was excellent. All the staff were great and made the experience so much more pleasant. Dr Akdimar is the very best physician I have ever seen. He was patient and caring. He helped me deal with a complicated and stressful process. I would recommend both Dr Akdimar and Memorial to my friends and family.
I really ant imagine better are and service.

FAQ about Plastic surgery for cardiac valve in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Which cities and hospitals are best for heart valve surgery in Turkey?

Istanbul, Ankara, and Antalya are the premier destinations for heart valve surgery in Turkey, hosting the highest density of JCI-accredited cardiac centers. Istanbul serves as the primary hub, featuring world-class facilities like Hisar Hospital Intercontinental and Memorial Şişli Hospital, which specialize in robotic valve repair and TAVI.

  • Top-tier hospitals: Memorial Şişli and Anadolu Medical Center offer specialized robotic and minimally invasive repairs.
  • Expert surgeons: Dr. Ali Fedakar at Hisar Hospital has performed over 4,000 successful heart surgeries.
  • Advanced technology: Facilities utilize Da Vinci robotic systems and the Miami Method for smaller incisions.
  • Clinical hubs: Istanbul leads in volume, while Ankara is renowned for complex, academic-led research cases.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many seek the lowest price, the real value in Turkey is the surgeon experience-to-cost ratio. Dr. Ali Fedakar at Hisar Hospital has a volume of 4,000+ surgeries. This level of specialization at Istanbul clinics costs $8,000 to $14,500, which is 90% less than US averages for similar expertise.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize prioritizing JCI-accredited hubs in Istanbul or Ankara to ensure American-level safety protocols. Clear communication and a robust follow-up plan with a local cardiologist are essential for a smooth recovery.

Is `plastic surgery` for heart valves the same as cosmetic surgery?

Plastic surgery for a heart valve is a medically necessary reconstructive procedure called valvuloplasty or annuloplasty, not a cosmetic enhancement. Unlike aesthetic surgeries, these operations repair damaged valve tissues or structures to restore proper blood flow and prevent heart failure.

  • Medical purpose: Restores vital heart function by repairing leaky or narrowed cardiac valves.
  • Specialized surgeons: Performed by cardiothoracic surgeons, often board-certified or members of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
  • Procedural techniques: Includes mitral valve plasty, annuloplasty, and surgical reshaping using pericardial patches.
  • Clinical setting: Conducted in JCI-accredited hospitals like Memorial Şişli or Hisar Hospital Intercontinental.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While patients often associate plastic surgery with aesthetics, cardiac plastic surgery in Turkey focuses on high-volume repair success. Surgeons like Dr. Ali Fedakar have performed over 4,000 open heart surgeries. This high volume allows Turkish centers to maintain success rates exceeding 90% for complex valve reconstructions.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize confirming that plastic surgery specifically refers to valve repair or plasty in English medical reports. Many suggest prioritizing JCI-accredited facilities and ensuring pre-operative TEE imaging is performed to guarantee the most accurate surgical plan.

What are the common risks associated with cardiac valve surgery in Turkey?

Cardiac valve surgery in Turkey is highly successful, with 91%-97% success rates at JCI-accredited hospitals. Common risks include postoperative bleeding in 10% of cases, temporary arrhythmias like atrial fibrillation, and a 5%-10% stroke risk. Some patients may also experience temporary kidney dysfunction or incision site infections.

  • Success rates: Aortic valve procedures reach 94%-97% success at top Turkish centers.
  • Arrhythmia risk: Atrial fibrillation occurs in 40% of patients during the initial recovery.
  • Valve durability: Bioprosthetic tissue valves typically require replacement after 10 to 15 years.
  • Long-term care: Mechanical valves require lifelong anticoagulation medication to prevent dangerous blood clots.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many focus on the surgery, the 3-6 month recovery window is where most complications arise. Data from high-volume surgeons like Dr. Ali Fedakar at Hisar Hospital Intercontinental, who has performed 4,000+ procedures, shows that patient adherence to a 2-week local stay significantly reduces rehospitalization rates. Virtual consultations with a home cardiologist before traveling are also essential for early detection of post-operative issues.

Patient Consensus: Patients often highlight the reality of post-operative brain fog and the necessity of specialized travel insurance. Many emphasize booking private JCI-accredited facilities over public ones to ensure better communication and lower infection risks.

What are the reported success rates for cardiac valve procedures in Turkish centers?

Turkish cardiac centers report success rates between 90% and 98% for major heart valve procedures. Leading facilities in Istanbul achieve up to 99.9% success for aortic replacements. These outcomes are supported by high surgical volumes and strict adherence to Joint Commission International (JCI) safety standards.

  • Aortic valve replacement: Centers report 94% to 98% success using mechanical or bioprosthetic valves.
  • Minimally invasive TAVI: Procedural success reaches 95% to 98% for high-risk, properly selected patients.
  • Mitral valve repair: Specialized clinics achieve 95% success by modifying existing valve tissue.
  • Survival benchmarks: JCI-accredited hospitals maintain 30-day survival rates exceeding 97% for elective cases.

Bookimed Expert Insight: High volume directly correlates with safety in Turkey. For example, Prof. Ali Fedakar at Hisar Hospital Intercontinental has personally performed over 4,000 open-heart surgeries. This level of individual experience at centers serving 250,000+ annual patients often results in lower complication rates than smaller regional facilities.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize the importance of verifying specific surgeon case volumes through international registries. While costs are significantly lower, travelers recommend prioritizing clinics with dedicated post-operative monitoring teams to ensure long-term repair stability.

How long is the recovery period after valve surgery in Turkey?

Recovery after cardiac valve surgery in Turkey typically involves a 7 to 10 day hospital stay and 6 to 12 weeks for full physical healing. Patients using minimally invasive techniques like TAVI often recover within 2 to 4 weeks, while open-heart procedures require longer sternal healing periods.

  • Travel timeline: International patients should stay in Turkey for 10 to 21 days post-operation.
  • Activity restrictions: Heavy lifting over 10 lbs is restricted for 8 to 12 weeks minimum.
  • Driving readiness: Most surgeons require 4 to 6 weeks before resuming driving for safety.
  • Professional return: Desk jobs are manageable after 6 weeks; physical labor requires 3 months.

Bookimed Expert Insight: High-volume centers like Hisar Hospital Intercontinental and Memorial Şişli utilize JCI-accredited protocols that prioritize early mobilization. Data show experienced surgeons like Dr. Ali Fedakar, with 4,000+ procedures, achieve stability faster. Patients should choose clinics offering 5 to 7 nights of integrated hotel recovery for better monitoring.

Patient Consensus: Many feel the first 2 weeks are harder than expected due to fatigue and mobility limits. While surgeons suggest 6 weeks for normalcy, many patients report needing 3 to 6 months to feel fully recovered.

What is typically included in an all-inclusive medical travel package for cardiac valve surgery in Turkey?

All-inclusive cardiac valve surgery packages in Turkey typically bundle the surgical procedure, pre-operative diagnostics like echocardiography and angiography, and 3-7 days of hospitalization. Most plans also include VIP airport-to-hotel transfers, bilingual patient coordinators, and accommodation for a companion during the clinical stay.

  • Core surgery: Includes surgeon fees, anesthesia, and mechanical or biological valve implants.
  • Diagnostic suite: Covers blood panels, ECG, chest X-rays, and advanced cardiac imaging.
  • Hospital stay: Usually provides 3-7 nights including 1-2 days in the Cardiac ICU.
  • Travel logistics: Standard packages include private transfers and shared hospital rooms for companions.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many clinics like Hisar Hospital Intercontinental or Memorial Shishli offer standard 7-day hospital stays, the real differentiator is the ICU-to-ward ratio. High-volume centers often include 2 full days of intensive cardiac monitoring. This is 24 hours longer than the European average, providing a critical safety net before transferring to a standard room.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize the importance of requesting an itemized list of medications. While the hospital stay is covered, discharge drugs and long-term anticoagulants for mechanical valves are often separate costs.

What are the expected medical results and success rates for cardiac valve surgery in Turkey?

Cardiac valve surgery in Turkey achieves success rates between 94% and 98%, aligning with top global benchmarks. Leading Istanbul clinics are often JCI-accredited. They perform high volumes of aortic and mitral repairs using minimally invasive techniques. Their 30-day survival rates frequently exceed 97% for elective procedures.

  • Success rates: Aortic valve procedures typically reach 94% to 98% success for elective cases.
  • Mitral repair: Specialised Turkish centres target repair rates over 95% to preserve native tissue.
  • TAVI success: Catheter-based deployments for high-risk patients maintain success rates between 95% and 98%.
  • Recovery period: Patients who have minimally invasive surgery often drive and walk long distances by week three.
  • Hospital stay: Patients usually spend 5 to 7 days in hospital, including ICU monitoring.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Surgeon volume is the strongest predictor of success here. Dr Ali Fedakar at Hisar Hospital has performed over 4,000 open-heart surgeries, including complex redo cases. Choosing surgeons with this level of repetition significantly lowers complication risks compared to lower-volume providers.

Patient Consensus: Patients report feeling significantly better within weeks, often surpassing their pre-surgery energy levels. Those undergoing minimally invasive procedures describe recovery as straightforward and fast. This allows a quicker return to daily activities in Australia.

What surgical techniques are used for plastic surgery of cardiac valves in Turkey?

Turkish cardiovascular centres specialise in heart valve plastic surgery. They use minimally invasive techniques, robotic-assisted repairs, and balloon valvuloplasty. Specialists such as Dr Ali Fedakar at Hisar Hospital Intercontinental perform procedures like mitral valve reconstruction and annuloplasty. These preserve biological tissue and restore valve function without full sternotomy.

  • Robotic surgery: Surgeons use the da Vinci system for high-precision mitral and tricuspid valve repairs.
  • Minimally invasive: Approaches like right mini-thoracotomy reduce trauma, blood loss, and recovery time.
  • Transcatheter techniques: TAVI and MitraClip offer non-surgical valve repair or replacement via the femoral artery.
  • Native reconstruction: Annuloplasty reinforces the valve ring with synthetic bands to improve leaflet closure.
  • Open heart surgery: This is retained for complex cases that require absolute visibility, such as multi-valve anatomies.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish heart centres frequently combine procedures, such as performing a beating heart bypass alongside valve plastic surgery. Data shows surgeons like Dr Ali Fedakar have performed over 4,000 open heart surgeries. This high volume allows clinics to offer specialised redo valve surgery. This is for patients whose previous repairs have failed.

Patient Consensus: Patients value the bundled travel packages in Turkey but suggest verifying the specific surgical approach in writing before arrival. Many recommend choosing JCI-accredited hospitals for high standards of aftercare and clear communication during recovery.

What types of surgical techniques are available for cardiac valve surgery in Turkey?

Turkish cardiac centres offer a complete range of valve treatments. These include open-heart surgery, minimally invasive keyhole techniques, and transcatheter procedures like TAVI. Leading specialists at JCI-accredited facilities in Istanbul and Ankara perform complex valve repairs and replacements. They use 3D mapping and robotic systems.

  • Traditional open-heart surgery: Full sternotomy remains the standard for complex multi-valve repairs or bypass combinations.
  • Minimally invasive surgery: Surgeons use mini-thoracotomy or mini-sternotomy to access valves through 2-inch rib incisions.
  • Transcatheter aortic implantation: TAVI allows valve replacement via groin access without opening the chest cavity.
  • Robot-assisted repair: Systems like da Vinci enable mitral valve repair through four small port incisions.
  • Balloon valvuloplasty: This catheter-based technique uses a balloon to open narrowed aortic or mitral valves.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish cardiac surgery stands out because senior surgeons often have massive case volumes. Dr Ali Fedakar at Hisar Hospital has performed 4,000+ open-heart surgeries. This level of experience is common in Istanbul’s high-volume centres. It often leads to better outcomes for complex redo valve cases.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey find that catheter-based repairs allow for incredibly fast discharge within 24 hours. Mini-incisions are popular. However, survivors mention that full recovery still takes closer to 4 weeks than advertised.

How long does recovery after plastic surgery for cardiac valves in Turkey last?

Recovery after cardiac valve plastic surgery in Turkey typically involves a 5 to 10 day hospital stay. After that, full physical healing takes 3 months. Patients often begin walking within 12 hours. However, complete sternum healing and return to strenuous activity usually take about 12 weeks.

  • Hospital stay: Patients spend 5–10 days in hospital, including 1–2 days in intensive care.
  • Initial recovery: The first 4 weeks are often challenging, marked by fatigue and sleep disruption.
  • Sternum healing: The breastbone requires 3 months to heal fully after traditional open-heart surgery.
  • Return to work: Most patients resume light professional duties within 6–8 weeks post-surgery.
  • Travel window: International patients should stay in Turkey for 10–14 days before flying home.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data shows that choosing minimally invasive techniques can reduce hospital stays to just 2–5 days. Surgeons like Dr Ali Fedakar at Hisar Hospital Intercontinental have performed 4,000+ open-heart procedures. This high volume often leads to more efficient recovery protocols for international patients.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey report feeling significantly better by week 5, though many experience lingering fatigue. Walking begins almost immediately, but chest pressure and incision tenderness typically last for 3 months.

How long is the recovery period after heart valve surgery in Turkey?

Recovery after heart valve surgery in Turkey varies by technique. Hospital stays usually last 5 to 7 days. Minimally invasive approaches or TAVI often reduce this to 3 to 5 days. Full functional recovery generally takes 8 to 12 weeks for most patients.

  • Hospital discharge: Patients typically leave hospital within 5 to 7 days after surgery.
  • Local stay: Surgeons require patients to stay in Turkey for 5 to 7 days for follow-ups.
  • Initial recovery: Light daily activities usually resume within 4 to 8 weeks at home.
  • Surgical techniques: Minimally invasive options and TAVI allow for significantly faster healing than open-heart.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish cardiac centres often use a hybrid approach, combining surgical expertise with interventional cardiology. Leading surgeons have each performed over 4,000 open-heart surgeries. Dr Ali Fedakar at Hisar Hospital Intercontinental is one such surgeon. This high volume often leads to more efficient recovery protocols for international patients.

Patient Consensus: The first month is often the most demanding. However, energy levels typically improve significantly after 4 weeks. Most patients find returning to a normal routine takes roughly 8 to 12 weeks. This is the typical recovery timeline in Turkey.

What is typically included in a medical package for cardiac valve surgery in Turkey?

Cardiac valve surgery packages in Turkey typically cover the procedure, prosthetic valve, and hospitalisation in JCI-accredited facilities like Memorial Bahçelievler. Standard inclusions are pre-operative cardiac screenings, surgeon and anaesthetist fees, ICU monitoring for 1–3 days, and VIP airport transfers for international patients.

  • Diagnostic tests: Includes blood panels, electrocardiograms, and echocardiograms before the operation.
  • Surgical fees: Covers the surgical team, anaesthetist, and use of heart-lung machines.
  • Valve prosthesis: Biological or mechanical valves are usually included in the core price.
  • Recovery stay: Includes 4–10 days in hospital with nursing care and meals.
  • Logistics: VIP airport transfers and multi-language interpreters are standard for foreign patients.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Australian patients often save up to 90% compared to local costs. Basic packages cover essential consumables. However, some clinics like Hisar Hospital Intercontinental include dedicated personal coordinators and 5-star hotel stays. Always check if postoperative medications for home use are included, as these are frequently excluded.

Patient Consensus: Hospitals in Turkey provide private airport transfers and full-time interpreters for appointments. Packages often cover a companion’s stay and hospital meals for them. Before booking, check if saline and basic pharmacy supplies cost extra.

What is included in typical medical tourism packages in Turkey for cardiac valve surgery?

Typical cardiac valve surgery packages in Turkey bundle the surgical procedure, prosthetic valve, and intensive care with travel logistics like airport transfers and 4-star hotel stays. Leading centres such as Hisar Hospital Intercontinental and Memorial Bahçelievler provide these all-inclusive services within JCI-accredited facilities to international patients.

  • Surgical fees: Covers the cardiothoracic surgeon, anaesthetist, and full operating theatre costs.
  • Hospital stay: Includes 1–3 days in the cardiac ICU and 4–7 days in a ward.
  • Diagnostic tests: Bundles pre-op blood work, ECG, chest X-rays, and echocardiograms into one price.
  • Patient concierge: Provides English-speaking interpreters and personal coordinators to assist during hospital stays.
  • Logistics: Features private VIP transfers between the airport, hotel, and the hospital clinic.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Bookimed data shows that top-tier Istanbul clinics often include extra recovery days in their 5-star guest houses. These packages, costing from $8,000 to $14,500, provide better value than basic hospital-only quotes. Surgeons like Dr Ali Fedakar have performed 4,000+ open-heart surgeries. This means high-level expertise is standard in these bundles.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey appreciate the seamless coordination between airport pickups and hospital admissions. The inclusion of dedicated English-speaking guides and post-operative medications makes the complex recovery process feel much more manageable.

What is cardiac valve surgery (often referred to as heart valve plastic surgery or repair) in Turkey?

Cardiac valve surgery in Turkey involves repairing or replacing malfunctioning heart valves to treat stenosis or regurgitation. Specialists perform reconstructive repairs or prosthetic replacements using open-heart, minimally invasive, or robotic techniques. These procedures prevent heart failure and restore normal blood flow within JCI-accredited cardiovascular centres.

  • Surgical approaches: Surgeons use traditional open-heart surgery, minimally invasive incisions, or robotic-assisted systems.
  • Valve repair: Doctors prefer reconstruction to preserve native function by reshaping leaflets or rings.
  • Transcatheter options: TAVI and MitraClip offer non-surgical alternatives via catheters for high-risk patients.
  • Cost range: Procedure costs from $8,000 to $14,500, saving approximately 90% over Australian averages.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish cardiac centres often provide a higher level of surgical experience than typical Western facilities. For example, Dr Ali Fedakar at Hisar Hospital Intercontinental has performed 4,000+ open-heart surgeries. This massive volume means teams are prepared for complex redo valve surgeries and rare complications.

Patient Consensus: Patients recommend choosing established hospitals like Memorial or Hisar rather than general tourism clinics. Patients should confirm their specific surgeon's name and post-operative follow-up plan before travelling to Turkey. They should focus on specialist expertise rather than just the lowest price for heart care.
