The professionalism of surgeons and medical staff are at the best level! ❤️
24/7 support and assistance, namely: quick answers to all questions, loyal attitude and solution of all unforeseen needs that were not stipulated in the planning. The hospital service, the professionalism of surgeons and medical staff are at the best level! ❤️
Hospital service, competence of doctors and medical staff, support at all levels and on all issues
When preparing for a planned operation, it is necessary to consult specialised specialists at your own expense to evaluate the results of tests and to further determine whether the operation can be performed according to medical indicators. In addition, in the postoperative period, to determine the patient's condition, exclude the risk of infection, etc. - tests and consultations are paid for. And only with a separate agreement with the marketing department, some of them can be taken into account as planned.

My surgeon was great; he was honest about what results were realistic for my body and clearly explained all the risks, which gave me confidence
If you're thinking about this, my main piece of advice is to be mentally ready for the procedure, as it can be overwhelming. I’m in early recovery from my breast reduction and lift, and I am feeling better than expected. My surgeon was great; he was honest about what results were realistic for my body and clearly explained all the risks, which gave me confidence. The clinic team was easy to reach and stayed in touch. Do be aware of some additional expenses – I had a prescription that cost extra at the pharmacy. A few practical tips: bring a spare compression garment, cotton t-shirts to wear underneath it, and your own snacks. Also, having my mum with me has been pivotal to my recovery, so I'd suggest bringing a companion if you can.
The co-ordinator at Bookimed, Winnington was brilliant. No matter how many questions I had he was able to answer them promptly and with one small hiccup from the hospital Winnington went out of his way to try and package a new procedure for me. My co-ordinator Eyyub at Optimed hospital was outstanding. The hospital was great, the staff on my floor were fantastic. We used goggle translate when the co-ordinator wasn’t with us if we came up against a language barrier but that was not very often. I was cared for before and after my surgery by the nursing staff who could not do enough for myself and my mum. I 10000000% recommend Bookimed & Optimed hospital
Post op instructions could be better. I have suggested to them to put together a general guide of what to do and not to do and for however long. What’s normal and if something doesn’t feel right who to contact etc. I think this will greatly help international patients and help the hospital co-ordinators from being hounded with a load of questions from several patients all at once. Peace of mind for the patient and a little more support for the co-ordinator. The food is catered for Turkish patients and can be hard for international patients to eat. Again, I have suggested to them to try having a small box of fibrous cereal available at breakfast time and instead of a full meal at lunch time something simple like sandwiches or rolls/bagels/baked goods. Dinner was usually ok and we were able to eat most of that but our daytime diet is a little less than they were providing and there was a lot of food waste which they could minimise & use the money elsewhere if there was a cater to international patients diets.

The single positive aspect of this entire process was the staff. They were wonderful. Unfortunately, my experience with the surgeon and the clinic itself was profoundly disappointing, and I'm very concerned with how my otoplasty recovery is going so far. The gap between the supportive staff and the actual medical treatment I received is hard to understand. The facility did not meet my expectations for a medical setting in any capacity. Based on this, I would absolutely not recommend this clinic to anyone considering a similar procedure.
Do not go with bookimed.com. I didn’t liked from the moment when I arrived to airport anyone wasn’t there to pick me up, you know when you arrive any place you have no internet and you can’t make any phone calls or text so night mares already start.

The surgeon and the clinic itself were excellent
The possibility of breathing issues was my primary concern going into this. And honestly, that has been the biggest challenge in recovery so far, with one nostril constantly feeling stuffed. My surgeon performed a closed rhinoplasty. Everything is still very swollen along the bridge, but I can already see that my nose tip appears more refined, which is a great sign. The surgeon and the clinic itself were excellent. The general staff were great, though post-op instructions could have been a bit more explicit. I'm satisfied with the medical care I received so far
Dr. Erol is an amazing doctor, his work was amazing he truly listened to my request and expectations and he was really patient and reassuring. The medical assistance team as well, they really took good care of me, they were present when i needed them.
post-op instructions could’ve been explained better

I felt in such safe hands throughout and would recommend my surgeon Dr Yunus Emre Seker and his team to anyone
I loved the coordinator / interpreter. Totally made me feel at ease and comfortable in what I would only describe as an anxious situation especially with the language barrier and the unknown of where you are going. The surgeon himself was wonderful and even had a coffee with me before hand which made me feel completely at ease. I felt in such safe hands throughout and would recommend my surgeon Dr Yunus Emre Seker and his team to anyone. Thank-you so much :)

The lift in my jowls is already a dramatic improvement
My biggest worry was how the final result would look, and whether it would be worth the recovery. Even though I’m still quite puffy around my jawline, the lift in my jowls is already a dramatic improvement. That part is a huge relief. The staff and clinic environment were excellent from start to finish. Turning my head feels slightly tight but okay. The surgeon did good work, though I rated them a 4/5 as I felt some communication could have been a bit more compassionate after surgery. The most challenging part has absolutely been sleeping elevated. That's no fun. I would still recommend this clinic.
The Bookined coordinator and the Quartz Clinic staff were fantastic: supportive, helpful, compassionate. All updates were communicated to me promptly. The hotel booked for me is really excellent, with smooth transfers and kind drivers. Spot on!
I didn't give the doctor 5 stars because she made me cry the day after surgery. She could adopt a different approach towards me after surgery, with more understanding and compassion, especially since I was there on my own and at the end of the day, she's received all the information required, it doesn't matter from whom. The stress has a significant impact on me. Aside from that, she was great.

The moment I saw the result, even with the initial swelling, I could tell the shape was exactly what I wanted
The moment I saw the result, even with the initial swelling, I could tell the shape was exactly what I wanted. It’s a great feeling. My goal was a more defined tip, and that's precisely what the surgeon delivered using an open approach. The whole process was smooth, and the staff were genuinely caring. The most difficult part of recovery so far is just having to sleep upright, which is temporary. A huge bonus is that I am breathing perfectly through my nose already. I am so grateful for the surgeon's skill and the clear communication from the team.

the care provided by the surgeon and all the staff was impeccable
If you’re thinking about arm liposuction, I’d advise you to prepare for the recovery. My surgeon used the VASER ultrasound technique and, although it’s still early days, my compression sleeves are already too loose. My mobility is limited; my biggest difficulty right now is reaching for things above my head. It’s also important to be patient with the results, because when I look in the mirror today, I can see that one arm looks different from the other, and I’m confident that will even out over time. Despite these minor aspects of the process, the care provided by the surgeon and all the staff was impeccable. I would recommend the clinic.

The surgeon and staff were brilliant and supportive throughout
My biggest worry was ending up with an unnatural shape, but the surgeon’s approach and clear communication completely put me at ease. Right now, things still look a little patchy as about half the transplanted hairs have fallen out, which I was told to expect during this early stage of healing. It’s a process. The biggest challenge has honestly been a personal one: just remembering to avoid touching them! The surgeon and staff were brilliant and supportive throughout. While the clinic facilities were fine, the personal care from the team made all the difference. I'm very satisfied with my choice.

Right now, I am feeling better than expected
I remember seeing the computer imaging of my new nose during the consultation and feeling confident. My surgeon was very honest about what was realistic, and I appreciated that he personally handled everything from that first meeting to the surgery itself. He performed an open rhinoplasty to reshape my bridge and tip. Right now, I am feeling better than expected. The clinic staff has been great with follow-up; they've stayed in touch, are easy to reach, and gave me a clear aftercare guide. It was also reassuring that there were no additional expenses. If you're wondering what to bring, don't worry—they prepare you for everything, and nothing was missing for me.
Everything was wonderful, we are very satisfied, everyone was helpful and very kind and the results are the best.

The surgeon did an excellent job – the incisions were made using the traditional method and are now hidden in the natural folds of the skin
I was worried that the scars from the upper and lower eyelid surgery would be noticeable. Fortunately, the surgeon did an excellent job – the incisions were made using the traditional method and are now hidden in the natural folds of the skin. I have no complaints about him whatsoever. However, the overall impression was greatly marred by the clinic itself, where the conditions were unsatisfactory. Recovery is still ongoing. My eyes are still swollen, and I’ve noticed that when I smile, one side looks slightly different. I hope this will pass. The main advice I would give to anyone considering this procedure is to prepare thoroughly for the period before and after the operation.

I breath perfectly now after surgery and my nose is a lot straighter
I felt very secure and taken care of through the entire experience. All of my inquiries were answered very promptly by both the bookiemed coordinator, the assistant, and my doctor (Dr. C Altindąg), is very experienced and talked me through what to expect and analyzed my nose very thoroughly. I breath perfectly now after surgery and my nose is a lot straighter (I had a severe deviated septum and other complications from a past surgery that he identified and corrected including a mirgrated graft and a droopy tip). I'm still quite swollen but look forward to seeing final results in a few months.

I now feel better than I expected
What I remember most about the whole process was the doctor’s approach. Before the operation, he personally marked the incision lines on my upper eyelids and honestly explained what I could realistically expect from the result. The procedure was carried out under general anaesthetic, and I now feel better than I expected. It was a great help that the doctor personally checked on me after the operation, and the clinic provided clear aftercare instructions. There were no additional costs. The only advice I would give to future patients is to make sure you confirm the exact date and time of the operation in advance.

FAQ about Skin grafting for burns in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

When is a skin graft medically necessary for a burn?

A skin graft is medically necessary for third-degree burns that destroy all skin layers or deep second-degree burns failing to heal within 14 to 21 days. Surgical intervention restores the protective barrier, prevents life-threatening infections, and minimizes severe scarring or permanent loss of joint mobility.

  • Burn depth: Full-thickness burns require grafting as the skin cannot regenerate on its own.
  • Critical locations: Surgeons prioritize grafting for face, hands, and joints to prevent functional disability.
  • Size threshold: Injuries exceeding 2 centimeters or 15% body coverage often necessitate surgical closure.
  • Healing timeline: Partial-thickness wounds stagnant after 3 weeks require grafts to stop contracture formation.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from top Turkish centers like Memorial Şişli Hospital shows a shift toward early excision, usually within 7 days. Specialists like Associate Professor Burak Özkan, who holds a prize from the International Society of Burn Injuries, emphasize that this early window significantly reduces hospital stays. Choosing a FEBOPRAS-certified surgeon ensures the technical skill required for complex full-thickness grafts in high-visibility areas.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that waiting too long for natural healing often leads to tighter, more painful scars. Most recommend seeking a surgical opinion early if a deep burn shows no signs of closing within 2 weeks.

What are the success rates for burn skin grafting in Turkey?

Success rates for burn skin grafting in Turkey range from 90% to over 98%, reflecting the high standards of JCI-accredited burn centers. Specialized techniques like phased autologous grafting reach 98.66% success for second-degree burns, while advanced Meek micrografting maintains 91.76% survival in extensive cases.

  • Graft survival: Standard skin grafts achieve 90% success under ideal clinical conditions.
  • Advanced microsurgery: Techniques like Meek micrografting show 91.76% survival for severe injuries.
  • Early intervention: Ultra-early excision and grafting yields success rates between 91.5% and 96.8%.
  • Specialized outcomes: Reconstructive centers like Memorial Şişli Hospital report up to 99.9% success.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Success in Turkey often stems from the high volume of reconstructive microsurgery performed by specialized boards. Dr. Burak Özkan, for example, holds leadership roles in the International Society of Burn Injuries. Choosing a surgeon with FEBOPRAS fellowship ensures your procedure meets the highest European clinical benchmarks for graft take and scar reduction.

Patient Consensus: Success depends heavily on following strict aftercare protocols to prevent infection. Patients emphasize that choosing a specialized burn unit over a general plastic surgery clinic is vital for long-term functional results.

How long is the recovery timeline after burn skin grafting?

Recovery after burn skin grafting in Turkey typically requires 2 to 3 weeks for initial healing, though the complete maturation of the graft takes 12 to 18 months. Patients must remain immobilized immediately following surgery to ensure the new blood supply stabilizes and the graft successfully attaches.

  • Initial healing: Graft attachment and new blood supply formation occur within the first 10 days.
  • Activity resumption: Light walking is permissible after 10 days if grafts occupy non-weight-bearing areas.
  • Staged procedures: Large burns often require multiple surgeries, extending the total recovery timeline over months.
  • Functional recovery: Physical therapy typically starts at week 4 to prevent joint stiffness and scarring.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from top Turkish centers like Memorial Şişli Hospital shows that surgeon specialized training significantly impacts graft success. Choosing a Fellow of the European Board of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery (FEBOPRAS) ensures expertise in microsurgical flap techniques, which can reduce the need for secondary revision surgeries for complex burn scars.

Patient Consensus: Many patients find the initial dressing changes in the first week more challenging than the surgery itself. They emphasize that while functional movement returns by month 3, scars often look dark or raised until the 6-month mark.

What services are typically included in an all-inclusive medical package for skin graft surgery in Turkey?

All-inclusive skin graft packages in Turkey typically bundle surgical fees, hospital stays, and logistics into a single price. Most plans include the procedure, anesthesia, 1–2 nights of hospitalization in JCI-accredited facilities, VIP airport transfers, and local transport between your hotel and the clinic.

  • Medical fees: Covers surgeon, anesthesiologist, operating room, and all graft harvesting materials.
  • Hospital stay: Includes 1–2 nights in a private room with nursing and meals.
  • Accommodations: Typically provides 5–7 nights in a 4-star or 5-star hotel nearby.
  • Post-operative care: Covers initial medications, dressings, and at least 1–2 follow-up appointments.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While base packages cover the surgery, they often exclude critical long-term recovery needs like compression garments or specialized physiotherapy. Clinics like Anadolu Medical Center or Memorial Şişli offer high-end surgical care, but you should budget extra for custom compression suits. These suits are essential for burn recovery but rarely sit within standard `all-inclusive` price tags.

Patient Consensus: Patients value the 24/7 translation support and seamless airport pickups that reduce travel stress. However, many suggest getting an itemized list in writing to clarify if potential complication management or repeat grafting is covered.

What is typically included in a Turkish all-inclusive burn surgery package?

Turkish all-inclusive burn surgery packages typically bundle the surgical procedure, specialized hospital care, and local logistics into a single price. These medical solutions often include skin grafting, pre-operative diagnostics, and post-operative monitoring within JCI-accredited facilities like Memorial Şişli Hospital or Anadolu Medical Center.

  • Medical services: Covers surgeon fees, anesthesia, and procedures like skin grafting or flap reconstruction.
  • Clinical diagnostics: Includes pre-operative blood work, EKGs, and necessary imaging for burn assessment.
  • Hospital stay: Provides 1 to 4 nights in private rooms with nursing and meals.
  • Local logistics: Bundles VIP airport transfers, hotel stays, and dedicated language translation services.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many packages specify a standard stay, burn recovery is highly variable. Data shows that top-tier specialists like Dr. Burak Özkan at Medipol Acibadem, who sits on the International Society of Burn Injuries board, emphasize that complex grafts often require longer hospitalization. Secure a package that explicitly defines costs for extended stays or additional dressing changes to avoid unexpected expenses.

Patient Consensus: Patients value the 24/7 coordinator support and help with translation. However, many emphasize the need to budget separately for long-term recovery essentials like compression garments and specialized physiotherapy which are rarely included.

Which specialized burn treatments are available at Turkish clinics?

Turkish clinics offer advanced burn care ranging from acute skin grafting to complex reconstructive microsurgery. Specialized centers utilize split-thickness and full-thickness autografts, tissue expansion, and microvascular tissue transfer. Facilities like Memorial Şişli Hospital and Medipol Acibadem provide multidisciplinary support for severe contractures and aesthetic scar revision.

  • Surgical grafting: Surgeons perform split-thickness and full-thickness autografts for permanent wound coverage.
  • Reconstructive microsurgery: Complex flap procedures and microvascular tissue transfer restore function to deep injuries.
  • Contracture release: Specialized techniques like Z-plasty and microsurgery address tight scars that limit movement.
  • Aesthetic restoration: Clinics offer fractional CO2 lasers, fat grafting, and stem cell therapy for scars.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Look for surgeons with International Society of Burn Injuries (ISBI) board positions, like Dr. Burak Özkan. High-volume centers in Istanbul often manage over 250,000 patients annually. This massive clinical exposure typically translates to more refined techniques in handling difficult pediatric or maxillofacial burn reconstructions.

Patient Consensus: While immediate surgical success rates are high, the long-term aesthetic outcome depends on months of compression therapy. Patients often find that coordinating this specialized aftercare with doctors in their home country is the most challenging step.

Which Turkish cities host the leading burn-reconstruction facilities?

Istanbul and Ankara are Turkeys primary hubs for burn reconstruction, featuring JCI-accredited facilities and specialized academic institutes. Istanbul offers the highest concentration of private centers like Memorial Şişli, while Ankara hosts prestigious teaching hospitals like Hacettepe University and the Başkent University Burn and Fire Disaster Institute.

  • Istanbul facilities: Memorial Şişli and Hisar Intercontinental provide JCI-accredited care for complex skin grafting.
  • Ankara centers: Hacettepe University and Bilkent City Hospital offer high-level academic expertise in trauma recovery.
  • Antalya specialists: Medical Park Antalya features experts like Professor Cemal Firat for microvascular tissue transfers.
  • Regional hubs: Specialized burn units are also available in Adana, Konya, and Izmir for reconstruction.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While Istanbul attracts the most international patients, Ankara academic centers often handle the most complex primary reconstructions. Surgeons like Assoc. Prof. Burak Özkan, who serves on the International Society of Burn Injuries board, represent the elite tier of Turkish reconstructive expertise. Patients seeking scar revision or contracture release often find better value in Antalya or Izmir clinics.

Patient Consensus: Patients prioritize JCI accreditation and suggest verifying a surgeons specific case volume for acute grafting. Many recommend budgeting for potential scar revision surgeries 6 to 12 months after the initial procedure.

What are the main risks associated with skin grafting for burns in Turkey?

Main risks of skin grafting in Turkey include infection, graft failure, and scarring. JCI-accredited hospitals follow strict international protocols. However, patients may face pigmentation changes or sensory loss. Success depends on specialist expertise, particularly with complex flap reconstructions or microvascular tissue transfers.

  • Infection control: JCI-accredited facilities like Memorial Sisli Hospital follow rigorous protocols to prevent recipient site breakdown.
  • Graft survival: Success relies on adequate blood supply and avoiding haematoma formation under the new skin.
  • Scar management: Burn contractures may restrict movement near joints, requiring specialised scar revision or microsurgery.
  • Sensory changes: Nerve damage often causes temporary numbness or permanent alterations in sensitivity at the site.
  • Donor site healing: The area where surgeons harvest skin requires careful monitoring to prevent prolonged pain.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish specialists often hold dual international certifications. Associate Professor Burak Özkan at Medipol Acibadem belongs to the International Society of Burn Injuries executive committee. This high level of academic involvement usually translates to lower complication rates for complex cases.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey report feeling supported by 24/7 assistance and quick answers to questions. The presence of professional translators helps medical instructions be understood clearly during recovery.

Why would an Australian patient consider Turkey for skin grafting for burns?

Australian patients consider Turkey for skin grafting to access specialised reconstructive surgery. The country offers significantly shorter wait times than the Australian public system. Facilities in Istanbul provide flap reconstruction and microvascular tissue transfers. Treatment costs from $3,500 to $7,200. This saves patients up to 78% compared to Australian private healthcare.

  • Specialist expertise: Dr. Burak Özkan at Medipol Acibadem District Hospital is an executive member of the International Society of Burn Injuries.
  • Clinical affiliations: Anadolu Medical Center maintains a formal affiliation with Johns Hopkins Hospital for high international safety standards.
  • Advanced techniques: Centres provide complex microsurgery, including free flaps and Z-plasty, to restore mobility after severe burn contractures.
  • Bundled logistics: Most private clinics include VIP airport transfers and multi-night hospital stays within the initial surgical quote.
  • Accredited facilities: Leading hospitals like Memorial Şişli were the first in Turkey to achieve Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Basic skin grafting is common, but Turkey also offers academic-led trauma units. Doctors like Assoc. Prof. Burak Özkan often hold international executive roles in burn societies. This high-level involvement means clinics are well-equipped for complex reconstructive cases. These cases often require multi-stage microvascular surgery rather than just simple grafts.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey appreciate the 24/7 support from dedicated international coordinators and translators. These teams organise everything from consultations to transport. Securing surgical dates quickly for time-sensitive reconstruction is a major benefit over long Australian waiting lists.

What does a skin grafting procedure for burns involve?

Burn skin grafting transplants healthy skin from a donor site to a burned area. Surgeons perform debridement to remove damaged tissue before attaching harvested skin. This procedure is critical for deep burns to protect the body and restore function. It also helps reduce scarring.

  • Technique selection: Surgeons choose split-thickness grafts for large areas or full-thickness grafts for mobility.
  • Recipient site preparation: Doctors perform surgical debridement to clean wounds and expose healthy tissue.
  • Specialised reconstruction: Complexes like Medipol Acibadem District Hospital offer microvascular tissue transfers for severe defects.
  • Experience levels: Turkish specialists like Associate Professor Burak Özkan specialise in complex burn and scar revision.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish reconstructive centres often combine grafting with microsurgery for better outcomes. Specialists like Professor Cemal Firat at Medical Park Antalya research interventions to prevent tissue death after burns. This level of surgical intensity helps salvage more native skin than standard grafting alone.

Patient Consensus: Expect the donor site to feel more sensitive than the graft during the first week. Healing skin may initially appear patchy or discoloured before settling into a more natural texture.

What is the typical healing process following a skin graft in Turkey?

The skin graft healing process in Turkey typically takes 2 to 3 weeks for initial closure. During the first 48 hours, grafts must remain immobilised to establish blood flow. Full maturation and scar softening continue for 3 to 12 months as the tissue integrates.

  • Initial integration: New blood vessels begin growing into the graft between days 2 and 4.
  • Dressing removal: Surgeons typically perform the first wound check and dressing change by day 6.
  • Donor site healing: The area where skin was removed usually heals within 7 to 21 days.
  • Oil gland management: Patients must apply prescribed creams for 3 months as grafted skin lacks natural moisture.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish reconstructive surgeons like Dr. Hasbi Meral have performed 2,000+ surgeries. They often prioritise microsurgical flap transfers over simple grafts. This technique provides better blood supply. This is critical for complex burn cases to help tissue survive and restore function.

Patient Consensus: Recovery involves heavy dressings and initial immobilisation while the graft takes in Turkey. Patients often find the donor site more painful than the graft itself. They recommend early communication about pain control.

How are skin grafts secured in place after surgery in Turkey?

Surgeons in Turkey secure skin grafts using sutures, surgical staples, or specialised adhesives. These materials maintain firm contact with the wound bed. At JCI-accredited facilities, surgeons often combine these methods with bolster dressings or negative-pressure wound therapy (NPWT). These extra steps prevent fluid buildup and help the graft integrate.

  • Surgical sutures: Fine stitches used for full-thickness grafts or delicate areas like the face.
  • Skin staples: Rapidly secure split-thickness grafts over larger surface areas such as the torso.
  • Bolster dressings: Pressure dressings tied over the site to prevent movement and fluid collection.
  • Vacuum therapy: Negative-pressure dressings used on complex wounds to improve blood flow and adherence.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish reconstructive specialists like Dr. Burak Özkan often use microvascular tissue transfers for severe burns. This goes beyond standard grafting. These techniques involve reconnecting tiny blood vessels. This approach significantly improves graft survival rates for patients with deep tissue damage.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey noted that grafts stay covered for 5–7 days after surgery. Modern Istanbul clinics provide 24/7 assistance and translators to explain graft care and mobility restrictions clearly.
