We are very grateful for the small chance that these doctors gave us
We received a detailed consultation with Dr. Pelles Sharon and her assistant Denis. They explained everything, gave me a treatment plan, and the doctor was very attentive to details. We are very grateful for the small chance that these doctors gave us. I would also like to note the work of the coordinator, Yulia. A very sensitive, empathetic specialist, she was able to organize everything quickly. Thanks a lot!

I recommend
The staff is great. At the moment, we are waiting for the results of the tests, since the wrong diagnosis was made in Ukraine. In Ukraine, sarcoma was treated for 7 months and it is gone. We are not saying that there is no oncology, but the fact that there is no sarcoma is already pleasing. Received very nicely and politely. The coordinators are Russian-speaking. Every day they keep track of all matters. Those who passed the tests were not left alone for a single minute. Currently, we are waiting for a meeting with an oncologist and a radiologist. I recommend

"He is extremely impressed with the quality of medical care, the attention of professors Daniel Shuval, Alan Bloom, Ayal Hubert and their colleagues
Hello! My husband was treated at the University Hospital Hadassah. He has liver cancer. He is extremely impressed with the quality of medical care, the attention of professors Daniel Shuval, Alan Bloom, Ayal Hubert and their colleagues. He is grateful for the care of him. We had the opportunity to choose treatment in 5 leading hospitals in the world. And we are glad that by choosing HADASS we made the best and the right choice. Because this hospital has world-class medical care. But this would not have happened if it had not been for the wonderful organization and work of the specialists from the International Department who have been helping us all the time. With all my heart I thank everyone who helped and continues to help Pavel Kalchev in his fight against cancer. I wish all HADASS specialists health. Health for their families. In general, I am very pleased with this opportunity
I was advised to do a glass review, at first they turned to Germany and they did not confirm the diagnosis there, but there were doubts about the diagnosis and Israel was the third country, which turned out to be the right decision. I believe that this feature is very useful, since the diagnosis is not comic and you need to deal with the revision of the blocks. Coordinator Anastasia helped, very quickly found the people who transported our glasses, in this regard, many thanks. In general, I am very pleased with this opportunity.

-I was lucky that I went to the website "Bukimed"
I'll start with the most important thing. The most important thing in a huge sea of information is to choose the right "light", "lighthouse", which will point the way to a person who finds himself in this abyss with a limited time and money limit. I was lucky that I went to the website "Bukimed". I was contacted by coordinating physician Ivan Koval, who was very tactful and at the same time confidently leading me forward. I rushed from one clinic to another, from one operator to another, he calmly explained to me all the pros and cons and was support even when I already completely refused his help and tuned in to another operator. Even then, he very tactfully warned about possible pitfalls and continued to be an assistant. As a result, I took his advice and did not regret it. Hi Medical is very sympathetic to customers, helps with everything, tries to reduce customer costs, where possible. Organizes as quickly as possible consultations and time-examination. Special thanks to Victoria, who spins like a squirrel in a wheel to keep everything in order, always in touch and will not rest until the matter is brought to an end. My treatment is not yet complete, but I'm glad that I got into such a nice team, which brightens up, as much as possible, a person's life one-to-one with his illness. Thank you and for a healthy sense of humor, it also helps to overcome illness!))) And, still. Ivan was in touch with me throughout his stay in Israel. He was convinced that I flew, I was met and I was engaged. He made sure that I get everything that was promised. And after my return home, too, remains in touch, helping in my next steps. Thanks for the help!

FAQ about Oncology in Israel

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Will there be a language barrier for international patients undergoing oncology treatment in Israel?

International patients will not face significant language barriers during oncology treatment in Israel. English is the standard for medical education and documentation. Major hospitals like Sheba Medical Center and Sourasky Medical Center operate dedicated international departments. These offices provide personal coordinators who assist with translation during appointments.

  • Medical staff: English is spoken by over 90% of Israeli physicians.
  • Clinical training: Many specialists, like Dr Ofer Merimsky, completed fellowships in the USA or Europe.
  • Official documents: Clinics provide discharge summaries, prescriptions, and follow-up plans in English.
  • Multilingual coordinators: Hospitals provide interpreters for consultations, pathology reviews, and consent discussions.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Most doctors are fluent. However, administrative staff and nurses may have varying English levels. Patients at JCI-accredited centres like Sheba Medical Center or Assuta Medical Center receive more consistent English support. Choosing a package that includes a dedicated coordinator ensures someone is available to translate instructions in theatre or during recovery.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that while medical care in Israel is highly specialised, a sensitive coordinator makes a massive difference. They appreciate getting clear explanations in English. They also value having documentation professionally handled for their home doctors.

What advanced cancer treatments are available for international patients in Israel?

International patients in Israel access cancer treatments including CAR-T and TIL immunotherapies. They can also access Da Vinci robotic surgery and precision radiotherapy like CyberKnife. Leading JCI-accredited centres like Sheba Medical Center and Sourasky Medical Center provide genomic-driven targeted therapies. These facilities often start treatment within one week.

  • Cellular immunotherapy: Sheba Medical Center leads in CAR-T and TIL protocols for complex cases.
  • Robotic surgery: Surgeons use Da Vinci Xi systems for precise prostate and gastrointestinal resections.
  • Precision radiation: Clinics offer VMAT, SBRT, and CyberKnife to target tumours while sparing tissue.
  • Diagnostics: PET/CT and whole-body MRI provide rapid, accurate staging and treatment planning.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data shows that centres with 1,000,000+ annual patients, such as Hadassah and Sourasky, often revise initial diagnoses for 25–30% of international cases. Choosing a facility with an on-site pathology review often leads to more accurate, personalised systemic treatment strategies.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Israel value the speed of diagnostic verification. They note that Russian-speaking coordinators and English-speaking staff make the complex medical journey much easier to manage.

Can patients travel to Israel to access clinical trials or experimental cancer therapies?

Patients can access clinical trials and experimental cancer therapies in Israel. Major centres like Sheba Medical Center and Sourasky Medical Center run protocols in CAR-T, TIL immunotherapies, and precision medicine. Acceptance requires strict medical eligibility and remote screening. A hospital invitation is also necessary.

  • Experimental pipeline: Patients access therapies through formal clinical trials or individual compassionate use pathways.
  • Specialised immunotherapies: Sheba Medical Center is a leader in CAR-T and tumour-infiltrating lymphocyte (TIL) approaches.
  • Eligibility screening: Oncologists review biopsy results and imaging remotely before confirming any trial placement.
  • Access logistics: Hospitals issue official invitations after screening to support medical visa applications.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Our data shows Sheba Medical Center has over 200 physicians on the Forbes' Top Doctors list. Such clinics often lead the most complex cellular therapy trials. The fastest route to experimental care is usually at centres with JCI accreditation and many international cases.

Patient Consensus: Patients value how quickly online consultations are organised to confirm their diagnosis before travelling. Many note that costs are higher than in Europe. However, they feel the access to attentive specialists and precise treatment plans justifies the investment.

How efficient is the diagnostic process for oncology patients arriving in Israel?

Oncology diagnostics in Israel are streamlined, typically concluding within 3 to 4 days. Leading centres like Sheba Medical Center and Sourasky Medical Center (Ichilov) use multidisciplinary commissions. These teams provide a verified diagnosis and a tailored treatment plan immediately after intensive testing.

  • Timeline efficiency: Diagnostics and treatment planning are often completed within 3 to 7 days.
  • Specialist access: Consultations with oncologists like Dr Ofer Merimsky are arranged within days.
  • Specialised imaging: Facilities use PET/CT and high-resolution MRI to detect microscopic lesions.
  • Pathology revision: Clinics perform mandatory reviews of existing biopsy slides for accuracy.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Israeli hospitals like Sourasky Medical Center (Ichilov) treat over 400,000 patients annually. This massive volume allows them to maintain on-site pathology labs and imaging suites. For patients, this means blood tests, scans, and specialist reviews often happen in one building.

Patient Consensus: Patients note the process is fast and well-organised, especially when coordinators manage the logistics. Many appreciate that Israeli specialists frequently correct initial diagnoses from home. This provides a second chance through precise testing.

Are minimally invasive surgical techniques standard for oncology procedures in Israel?

Minimally invasive surgery is the standard of care for many oncology procedures in Israel. Leading hospitals routinely use laparoscopic, endoscopic, and robot-assisted techniques. These methods prioritise faster recovery and reduced complications. High-volume centres like Sourasky Medical Center and Sheba Medical Center use these approaches for complex resections.

  • Robotic assistance: Surgeons use the Da Vinci system for precise prostate and kidney cancer removals.
  • Gastrointestinal care: Laparoscopic techniques are preferred for early-stage stomach, colon, and liver cancers.
  • Thoracic oncology: Video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) is the primary choice for anatomical lung resections.
  • Paediatric oncology: Specialists use minimally invasive methods for child biopsies to reduce physical trauma.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many associate minimally invasive surgery with smaller tumours. However, Israel's top centres now apply robotic platforms to major cases like the Whipple procedure. Data shows Sheba Medical Center offers robotic Whipple surgeries for pancreatic cancer. These typically require only a 6-day hospital stay compared to longer recoveries for traditional open surgery.

Patient Consensus: Patients note the speed of the process in Israel. They often move from diagnosis to surgery within days. They frequently mention feeling supported by attentive medical teams who explain every treatment detail clearly.

Can a medical treatment plan be prepared through remote consultation before travelling to Israel?

Oncology specialists in Israel regularly prepare preliminary medical treatment plans through remote consultations. This process involves a video meeting to review pathology reports and imaging. A consultation and treatment plan typically costs from $300 to $500.

  • Expert review: Specialists like Dr Pelles Sharon review existing imaging and pathology findings remotely.
  • Digital diagnostics: Patients must provide PET/CT or MRI files before the video meeting.
  • Second opinion: Remote consultations offer diagnostic confirmation to decide if travelling is worthwhile.
  • Treatment sequencing: Doctors map out surgery, radiotherapy, or immunotherapy timelines before the patient arrives.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Israeli oncology centres like Sourasky Medical Center often request a slides and blocks review. Sending physical biopsy samples to Israeli labs for re-testing is a common pre-travel step. This often reveals diagnostic discrepancies. It allows doctors to refine the plan before the patient leaves Australia.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that remote meetings with professors are quick to organise and highly detailed. Many found it helpful to receive a clear written strategy. They also valued advice on which extra tests to complete before flying to Israel.

What is the typical duration of stay for an international patient seeking oncology treatment in Israel?

International patients typically stay in Israel for 3 to 10 days for diagnostics. Major cancer surgeries require 2 to 4 weeks. Complex treatments like bone marrow transplants involve a 30-day hospital stay. Timelines vary based on the specific oncology protocol and recovery needs.

  • Diagnostic window: Initial tests and multidisciplinary tumour board reviews usually take 3 to 10 days.
  • Surgical recovery: Major procedures often require 5 to 7 hospital days plus 14 days local recovery.
  • Radiation cycles: Radiotherapy protocols generally require daily outpatient appointments for 3 to 4 weeks.
  • Bone marrow transplant: Paediatric allogeneic transplants at Sheba Medical Center include a 30-day inpatient hospital stay.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Israeli oncology centres like Sheba and Sourasky often separate hospitalisation from mandatory local recovery periods. A Whipple surgery might require 6 days in theatre and a ward. However, clinicians usually mandate an additional 14 days in a nearby hotel for monitoring. Choosing a package that bundles these hotel nights can simplify travel logistics and budgets.

Patient Consensus: Patients note the diagnostic process in Israel is fast. It often corrects previous stage or type errors within days. They appreciate scheduled timelines that move from blood panels to specialist consultations without delays.
