How Much Does Scrotoplasty Cost in Mexico?

Scrotoplasty in Mexico generally costs from $2,500 to $4,500. The final price depends on surgical complexity, clinic location, and surgeon expertise. In the US, patients typically pay $10,000 for this procedure. Choosing Mexico offers average savings of 65%. Pricing typically includes surgical fees, anesthesia, and facility charges in major hubs like Tijuana and Mexico City.

  • Surgeon expertise: Board-certified specialists may charge 25-35% more than the national average.
  • Geographic location: Costs in Mexico City or Cancun typically run 15-20% higher than border cities.
  • Hospital tier: Boutique facilities with private rooms and international accreditations often command premium rates.
  • Combined procedures: Adding phalloplasty or implants increases totals but reduces individual facility and anesthesia fees.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Choosing a border clinic like Hospital de la Familia provides significant logistical advantages. This facility is steps from the California border and holds CSG accreditation. It offers high-quality outcomes in a boutique setting with 32 private rooms. Patients often save by avoiding long-distance domestic flights while still receiving care at a highly-rated institution.

Scrotoplasty in Mexico: Pros and Cons

Scrotoplasty in Mexico can offer significant cost savings, but it's crucial to weigh the potential benefits against the risks.

Pros Cons
Lower costs. Scrotoplasty in Mexico typically costs $2,500–$4,500 versus $6,000+ in the US, providing up to 60% savings. Safety concerns. Potential risks include infection (2–5%), hematoma, or wound healing issues. These risks are similar to US rates when performed by qualified surgeons.
Qualified surgeons. Surgeons are certified by the Mexican Council of Plastic Surgery (CMCPER), often with US or European training and 10+ years of experience. Follow-up care. Managing post-surgical care from abroad may be challenging, but many clinics offer telemedicine and coordinated discharge plans.
Modern facilities. Procedures are performed in ISO 9001-certified hospitals using advanced equipment from brands like Stryker and Medtronic. Different regulatory standards. COFEPRIS standards differ from the FDA. However, leading clinics meet international accreditations such as ISO and adhere to FDA-aligned protocols.
Comprehensive packages. Many clinics include pre-op tests, one night hospital stay, medications, and round-trip transport in the price. Travel logistics. Potential risks include travel-related complications and adjusting to recovery in a foreign country. These can be minimized with proper planning and support.
Personal coordinator support. Bookimed’s medical coordinator helps compare clinics, request personalized quotes, and manage treatment logistics at no additional cost.

It's crucial to thoroughly research clinics and verify surgeon credentials before making a decision. When patients carefully research and choose reputable providers, scrotoplasty in Mexico can offer safe and affordable care.

I am 3 months post op and I have zero regrets
The experience I had with Dr Marroquin far exceed my expectations. I am an American living in Miami, FL. I inquired with surgeons locally before deciding to travel abroad for my deep plane face and neck lift with blepharoplasty. After extensive research I found Dr Marroquin, I read through all the patient testimonials I could find and looked at all his before and after photos. I reached out to him via Bookimed. At first I thought I was being scammed, the people at Bookimed did not speak very good english, I could tell I was communicating with a non native english or spanish speaker. The communications came in at weird hours of the day. After a few back and forth, I said I would not proceed any further without speaking with someone from Dr Marroquins office. That same day someone claiming to be Dr Marroquin contacted me on Whatsapp. I thought for sure it was a scam, so at first I ignored him. In Miami you would have to be dying in order for the surgeon to speak with you directly. I told him I was feeling uneasy and he suggested we set up a video call for later that day, I thought there is no way its going to be him on the phone, and sure enough it was him! He took his personal time on a Sunday to call me. We spoke for almost an hour, and at the end of that call I was 100% sure this was my doctor. He is so down to earth and approachable, he made me feel so at ease. I let him know the next day I wanted to proceed with the surgery, from that point on I only communicated with him. He helped me to schedule the surgery, my preop appointments and made recommendations for recovery houses. In less than a month I arrived in Guadalajara, he met with me the next day and we discussed the surgery in length. At that point I decided to add a lip lift to the procedure. I passed all my preop and had my surgery on August 26th. Dr Marroquin was amazing the day of surgery, he spoke to me in english (which he speaks very well), he made sure I understood every step of the process. Everything went very well, I spent the next 10 days in Mexico recovering at a recovery house. I spoke with Dr Marroquin every day while I was there. I had zero complications and flew home after 10 days to continue my recovery at home. I am 3 months post op and I have zero regrets. I speak with Dr Marroquin every few weeks and keep him updated on my progress with photos. If you are considering this surgery, I 100% recommend having a consultation with Dr Marroquin, he is an amazing doctor and human being.
I liked how personal the service was, I really got to know my doctor and felt 100% at ease with him.
I wish I would have waited for the recovery house I wanted to use to have availability. They were booked up so I decided to use another one that was not as highly rated. It was not a bad experience, but it could have been better.

Their staff was very accommodating and thoughtful - everyone was super nice and considerate, especially Sara and Maria
First off, I used Aura Wellness Center, instead of Alice Beauty Clinic. And, their staff was very accommodating and thoughtful - everyone was super nice and considerate, especially Sara and Maria. Sara was the best English speaker there and helped me with everything. Maria was kind, warm, and also a great English speaker. They made it less lonely since I had this journey alone. Through Bookimed, I was assisted by Confidence, she was super thoughtful and checked up on me. She made sure I had connections with my medical coordinator and doctor. My coordinator was named Carlos. He was kind, answering all my questions and even texted me after my surgery numerous time to ensure I was recovering and satisfied with my results. My doctor was Dr. Ayala. I can't say much about him since he was in and out of the surgery room. I met him briefly. And, I'm unsure of my results as I am only one month post-op.
The staff at the clinic was accommodating. The coordinator from Bookimed and from the doctor ensured my questions were answered.
Dr. Ayala's brevity and lack of check up after the surgery. I didn't meet him more than 15 (when I was conscious since I was under anesthesia when he operated on me).

I felt like both were done taking exactly what I wanted into account and the overall symmetry at the end for my nostrils was excellent - my nose had been broken and before surgery lack of symmetry was a big issue
I had a really great experience with my doctor and care here. I wanted a very natural looking nose, not to look "doll-like" or like I had a rhinoplasty. Same for lip filler. I felt like both were done taking exactly what I wanted into account and the overall symmetry at the end for my nostrils was excellent - my nose had been broken and before surgery lack of symmetry was a big issue. I believe it required different degrees of cutting for each nostril so I'm very impressed that the end result's symmetry appears less than 1mm different from one another, that's a huge improvement from before. The shape is really nice and I was impressed that after surgery the packing was done in such a way that I was able to breathe through my nose the whole time, even during my recovery.

The hospital advertised was not the one I went to. The operating room was thrown together i my opinion. Hardly anyone spoke English so I had a difficult time with the forms. I didn't even get a copy. After the surgery I was left on my back overnight night and was told I'll be ok. Once finally discharged the next morning, I only received antibiotics and ibuprofen. No instructions on how and what to do afterwards. I felt like they did what they was supposed to and dropped me off in the streets to fend for myself

The surgeon was good but the coordinator Carlo made too many mistakes. 1. Didn’t book continuous days at hotel. 2. As a result, I was kicked out of room the day I was in surgery. . 2. Need more after care days to remove drainage. I was abruptly kicked out of TJ while I was still feeling weak. Needed more days in Tijuana. At least 2 more. Return to America and no one wanted to remove drainage tubes. 3. The day nurse talked bad about me to everyone. The night nurse , Paulina was perfect. I would never recommend surgery in Mexico. No need to go viral with this because all of USA know this. Mexican are much better at picking fruits!

Terrible surgeon. Will not take the time to speak with you, when he does he knows limited English and is very very rushed. The first time me he gave me results that were so drastic I looked like a pig or someone from who-ville. I had to pay for a second surgery for him to give me my old nose but even worse! (Again super rushed, had zero time to make a decision). Absolutely awful experience. Scary. He refused to even try to fix my nose now for another 6 months. Even though I offered to pay again. Have to date and see friends humiliated with a half finished face. Go to someone with talent and who actually cares. He doesn’t. You are just a number to the surgeons there.

Dr. Marraquin was amazing. He spent over an hour with me on my consultation before my surgery. Let me know absolutely everything that was going to happen. His years of training is quite obvious to anybody who is requesting his services. He answered every question I could possibly think of. Additionally, he was available through text messaging 24 hours a day. He’s response time was impressive. I was very pleased with the outcome of my facelift. I would refer him to any buddy I know.

I like how fast and easy it was from the start. The surgical facility was small but worked fine. I did not like the post op care. The night nurse was terrible. Her patients were not a priority. Post op care was not made clear. I would have preferred more detailed instructions on after care. I was left guessing about bandages, sprays, medications and scar treatment. Doctor repaired a hernia, of which I was grateful, but would have preferred to have price list in case this occurred so I could have been prepared financially. I felt like price was just made up. So I don't know if I was overcharged. I liked Mexicali as it was a nice quiet clean town. All in all experience was not bad and the price was affordable.

Make sure your very clear on needs and expectations. Or they will nickel and dime you. Even though rides to and from border are included they will try to make to find your own way. After your surgery, no before, Will offer you a ride option across border but then later charge you for it. Also charged separately for bandaging materials used after surgery !!?!? if you dont pay you are sent away with nothing. (No they dont bandage you up unless you pay extra after the surgery). Beware of carlo he is not a point of contact only marketing manager and has no place in your medical conversations or booking, he only convoluted things between the dr and the real point of contact making for a frustrating and less then enjoyable experience.

I couldn't ask for any better
My medical team with carlos was great. I couldn't ask for any better. From start to finish, he was always available. He speaks perfect English. He checked on me daily. The price quotes did not change. Dr aylana is very knowledgeable in his field. In the consultation he asked me what my expectations were. He didn't try to talk me into any procedures I didn't need. He was honest about what he could do. Having medical procedures abroad is different from the US. It is still safe for fraction of the price.

My experience has been very bad with Dr. Ayala… He only spoke with me for about 10 minutes before my surgery and afterwards was very reluctant to answer any questions when I said I was not happy with the outcome of my neck and ears. He said I could come back in a couple of months to have it fixed. When I came back. I decided to do liposuction on my abdominal area at the same time again the same thing no follow up as far as what I should be doing or wearing or anything… Again, one of my ears was not corrected and looked actually worse than before. When I came back to get my stitches out I pointed that out and he said that was normal and I argued saying that my other ear came out fine and this year looked bad. He said he couldn’t do anything else except wait for another couple of months and have me come back again. At this point, I showed him my liposuction, which looked bad as well with a lot of fibrosis happening… He gave no recommendation except to have ultrasound treatment done. I went online and discovered I should be wearing compression garments as well as getting massage for lymphatic fluid, which was building up. Once I went to the masseuse, she informed me of all the things I needed to be doing, but this is also cost me an extra thousand dollars. The whole experience was very disappointing and now I need to go to another surgeon to get one of my ears fixed hopefully for the last time But this all started Jan 3 and we are now into May and I’m still not out of the woods! I actually liked the personalities of everybody that I worked with, but I cannot in good conscience. Recommend them to anyone else because I know they will be very disappointed!

FAQ about Scrotoplasty in Mexico

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Who is a good candidate for scrotoplasty?

Ideal candidates for scrotoplasty include individuals in good health seeking to resolve functional issues like chronic chafing, physical discomfort during exercise, or hygiene challenges. Candidates often present with age-related skin laxity, penoscrotal webbing, or require reconstructive support following trauma or gender-affirming genital surgery.

  • Functional relief: Men experiencing scrotal skin pinching, friction, or interference during athletic activities.
  • Anatomical correction: Individuals with penoscrotal webbing that limits sexual intercourse or causes pain.
  • Post-weight loss: Patients with redundant, sagging scrotal tissue following significant massive weight loss.
  • Medical reconstruction: Candidates recovering from trauma, infections like Fournier’s gangrene, or prior urological surgeries.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data shows scrotoplasty is rarely a standalone cosmetic request but often pairs with larger reconstructive plans. At specialized facilities like Hospital de la Familia, surgeons prioritize functional outcomes, such as hygiene and mobility. Patients should note that surgical approach heavily depends on tissue redundancy and existing scarring from past surgeries.

Patient Consensus: Many find relief from daily annoyances like testicles touching toilet water or skin rashes. Most emphasize that while aesthetic symmetry improves, the primary benefit is newfound comfort during walking and exercise.

What surgical techniques are used?

Surgical techniques for scrotoplasty in Mexico include local flap reconstruction, scrotal skin advancement, and staged reconstruction. Surgeons utilize these methods for gender affirmation or functional repair. Key approaches like groin or perineal flaps prioritize vascular health to ensure reliable tissue healing and natural results.

  • Local flap reconstruction: Uses nearby skin to preserve blood supply and improve healing reliability.
  • Advancement flap technique: Stretches existing tissue for cosmetic contouring with minimal scarring or visibility.
  • Staged reconstruction: Breaks complex repairs into multiple sessions to reduce tension and risk.
  • Skin grafting: Applies healthy skin from other areas when local tissue is insufficient.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While single-stage procedures seem faster, many top Mexican surgeons recommend staged reconstruction for complex cases. Splitting the surgery helps manage tissue tension better. This approach significantly reduces wound separation risks, especially in cases involving gender-affirming genital reconstruction.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize asking surgeons if they plan a local flap or a graft. Reviews suggest that local tissue methods feel more resilient and require less intensive long-term maintenance than grafts.

How long is the recovery period, and when can I travel home?

Scrotoplasty recovery in Mexico typically requires 10 to 14 days before flying home safely. Initial healing takes 1 to 2 weeks for stitches to stabilize. Most patients return to light activity after 3 weeks. Complete tissue settling and swelling resolution continue for 8 weeks.

  • Travel clearance: Plan to stay 7 days in-country before boarding a return flight.
  • Initial restriction: Limit walking and use ice during the first 14 days post-surgery.
  • Swelling peak: Expect maximum swelling around Day 3 to Day 5 rather than immediately.
  • Post-op support: Use compression garments during travel to manage pressure changes and comfort.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from 2,550+ requests in Mexico shows that sitting is often more difficult than walking. Patients traveling to cities like Mexicali or Mexico City should choose lodging near the clinic. Staying an extra 3 days helps ensure drains are removed before you fly home.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that bathroom routines and first bowel movements are surprisingly painful. Many recommend having a travel companion to manage luggage while navigating airports during the early recovery phase.

Is scrotoplasty performed as a standalone surgery or combined with others?

Scrotoplasty is performed both as a standalone procedure and combined with other surgeries. In Mexico, surgeons often perform standalone scrotal reductions for cosmetic needs. However, gender-affirming cases typically combine scrotoplasty with phalloplasty or metoidioplasty to build the scrotal sac from labial tissue.

  • Standalone approach: Focuses on scrotal lifts or excess skin removal under local anesthesia.
  • Gender-affirming care: Frequently combined with orchiectomy, phalloplasty, or vaginoplasty for comprehensive results.
  • Reconstructive surgery: Often paired with skin grafting or scrotectomy after trauma or infection.
  • Staged procedures: Testicular implants are usually placed 6 to 12 months after tissue creation.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While standalone scrotoplasty in Mexico offers a faster recovery, many patients choose combined plans. Centers like Hospital de la Familia operate near the border for convenience. Data shows combining scrotoplasty with penis enlargement can optimize total surgical costs and recovery time.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that scrotoplasty is rarely a one-step process. Most expect a staged plan where initial reshaping is followed by implant placement months later.

Are letters of readiness for gender dysphoria required?

Letters of readiness for scrotoplasty in Mexico are generally not a clinical requirement for private-pay patients. Many surgeons utilize an informed consent model or require only one letter of support. However, documentation remains essential if you are seeking insurance reimbursement or surgical clearance at specific hospitals.

  • Surgeon requirements: Most Mexican surgeons focus on medical fitness and informed consent over psychological letters.
  • Insurance standard: Providers usually demand standalone letters confirming medical necessity for bottom surgery coverage.
  • WPATH guidelines: Current standards suggest one professional letter for adults, though some clinics vary.
  • Document validity: Most facilities consider readiness letters valid for one year from the signature date.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data shows Mexico is a top destination specifically because clinics like Hospital de la Familia simplify requirements. Unlike US systems that often mandate two mental health letters for genital procedures, many Mexican specialists accept a single diagnosis letter. Patients often skip the multi-letter hurdle entirely by opting for out-of-pocket packages in border cities like Mexicali.

Patient Consensus: Patients report that private surgery in Mexico feels less gatekept than insurance-based systems. Many recommend having at least one letter ready anyway to ensure smooth hospital paperwork and clear diagnostic terminology.

What are the travel requirements for US citizens getting surgery in Mexico?

US citizens entering Mexico for surgery need a valid passport book or card and a Forma Migratoria Múltiple (FMM) permit. While a medical visa is not required for stays under 180 days, patients must present a formal surgical appointment confirmation at border checkpoints.

  • Travel documents: A passport book is required for air travel to Mexico and return.
  • Entry permit: The FMM card costs approximately $54 and is mandatory for all travelers.
  • Medical proof: Carry printed appointment confirmations and a surgeon letter for official border inspections.
  • Medication rules: Keep all prescriptions in original labeled packaging to satisfy Mexican customs regulations.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Clinics like Hospital de la Familia sit steps from the Calexico border, making land crossings with a passport card possible. This proximity allows patients to avoid airport stress, which is vital since surgeons recommend avoiding long periods of sitting after genital surgery.

Patient Consensus: Travelers emphasize that solo trips are difficult due to post-anesthesia grogginess. Most recommend bringing a companion for the first 72 hours to help with mobility and pharmacy runs.
