How Much Does Chemotherapy for lung cancer Cost in Istanbul?

Chemotherapy for lung cancer in Istanbul typically costs from $2,200 to $2,200 per cycle. Final expenses depend on the drug protocol, cancer stage, and whether immunotherapy is added. Patients save around 98% compared to the US, where this treatment averages $104,000. Istanbul clinics typically include medical translation, airport transfers, and protocol setup in their oncology service fees.

  • Hospital tier: JCI-accredited centers often follow US-standard protocols, affecting the base cycle cost.
  • Medication type: Traditional drugs are more affordable than targeted therapies or novel immunotherapies.
  • Cancer stage: Advanced stages may require more complex drug combinations or additional cycles.
  • Diagnostic tests: Initial costs often involve PET-CT scans and molecular studies for personalized treatment.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Istanbul holds a unique advantage by offering US-standard oncology care through deep international academic ties. For instance, Anadolu Medical Center is affiliated with Johns Hopkins Hospital and is OECI-certified, providing top-tier protocols at significant savings. Leading specialists like Prof. Yesim Yildirim carry ESMO certification and international training, ensuring high expertise. Choosing a multidisciplinary center like Medipol or Hisar Hospital allows for integrated care where chemotherapy is coordinated with advanced diagnostics.

Data verified by Bookimed as of September 2026, based on patient requests and official quotes from 62 clinics worldwide. Median costs are based on real invoices (2025–2026) and updated monthly. Actual prices may vary.

Overall, we were very happy with the care my father received
My father’s medical experience with Memorial Şişli was great. Everything was well-organized, and we felt supported throughout the entire process. The doctor was professional, knowledgeable, and patient in explaining every detail, which reassured us that my father was in good hands. I was also really impressed by how quickly everything was arranged. There were no unnecessary delays, and the entire medical service was coordinated seamlessly. Our online medical coordinator was always available whenever we had questions, making the whole process much easier. Having a interpreter readily available was a huge help as well—they were efficient and made communication effortless. The hospital was spotless, and cleanliness was clearly a top priority, which gave us even more peace of mind. Overall, we were very happy with the care my father received. The professionalism and efficiency of the entire team made a real difference, and I would highly recommend the hospital to anyone seeking quality medical care abroad.

The examination was successful, the results pleased me
In July 2022, I underwent an examination at the Anadolu clinic. The examination was conducted by Dr. Zafer Gulbash. Everything went very professionally, at a high level. It can be seen that the specialist is highly professional and competent. I would also like to note the high level of service of Bookimed employee Anna Khomenko. Very friendly, competent staff. I also wanted to express my gratitude to the staff of the clinic Anadol Osman Shahin, Zahida, Khalida and others, whose names I unfortunately did not remember.

SPECIAL THANKS TO BUKIMEDA COORDINATOR PAVL
I went to the Liv Istinier clinic for treatment. The treatment was planned for a month. It was provided with an examination and recommendations for treatment at home. In general, the trip went well, thanks to the coordinators Dilvar, Tuba, Niyaz. SPECIAL THANKS TO BUKIMEDA COORDINATOR PAVL. Before the trip, I read a lot of reviews, what problems there might be. I also had them, but Pavel was always in touch, and it was all solved in 5-10 minutes, without exaggeration. In 3-4 months, if everything is normal, I will go to the clinic for control.

Logistics (hotel accommodation, transfer), translator on top
The clinic is modern, the staff is attentive, competent, highly qualified. The approach to the organization of diagnosis and treatment professional. Everything went according to schedule. The language barrier was not felt. I was somewhat surprised by the lack of sanepid mode, in my opinion. Logistics (hotel accommodation, transfer), translator on top. Great site, great service. Kind, competent, attentive and caring attitude of employees. You do not feel useless and lonely.

We are all happy
At the moment, I am undergoing chemotherapy at the Medipol clinic. The clinic is very good, the doctors are attentive and friendly. Constant support of a translator helps a lot. Found this clinic with the help of booked, they very quickly organized a flight and a visit to the doctor. Accommodation for the entire period of treatment was provided by the clinic for free, as well as three meals a day. We are all happy.

Doctors seemed professional
Doctors seemed professional. Low quality translation from Turkish to Russian and vice versa. For some reason, after PET KT (perhaps a coincidence), upon returning home, it was sharply worse. We had to urgently operate, although Turkish oncologists did not see the need for an operation, but offered to wait a month.

FAQ about treatment in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Why do international patients choose Istanbul for lung cancer chemotherapy?

International patients choose Istanbul for lung cancer chemotherapy. The main draws are precise treatment protocols and significant cost savings. Top JCI-accredited facilities offer rapid access to systemic therapies, including immunotherapy and targeted drugs. These therapies are reviewed by multidisciplinary tumor boards. Most centers provide dedicated international patient support to make medical travel logistics easier.

  • Cost savings: Treatments in Istanbul average around 98% less than the US average of $104,000.
  • Clinical quality: Centers like Anadolu Medical Center are affiliated with institutions like Johns Hopkins Medicine.
  • Advanced technology: Facilities use TrueBeam STx and MR-LINAC to combine diagnosis and treatment for lung cancer.
  • Medical expertise: Surgeons and oncologists often hold European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) board certifications.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Chemotherapy in Istanbul is highly affordable. However, the real value lies in the concentration of multidisciplinary expertise. Large hospital groups like Memorial and Medipol serve over 1,000,000 patients every year. So their tumor boards review complex lung cases daily. This high volume leads to more refined personalized protocols that general clinics elsewhere may lack.

Patient Consensus: Patients value the speed of specialist access. They also appreciate the professional coordination from major private hospital groups. Patients often choose Istanbul for second opinions on complex cases. They report better infrastructure and English-speaking support than at home.

Which major hospitals and centers in Istanbul handle lung cancer care?

Istanbul features elite oncology centers like Anadolu Medical Center, Memorial Şişli, and Medipol Mega University Hospital. These JCI-accredited facilities provide lung cancer care. Treatments include immunotherapy with Keytruda, targeted therapies, and robotic-assisted surgeries. Robotic-assisted surgeries are performed by ESMO-certified oncologists.

  • Anadolu Medical Center: Affiliated with Johns Hopkins Medicine, it offers U.S. clinical protocols and ESMO-certified specialists.
  • Memorial Healthcare Group: Memorial Şişli and Bahçelievler provide single-port robotic surgery and biomarker testing.
  • Medipol Mega Hospital: Has 35 operating rooms and TrueBeam STx and CyberKnife radiotherapy systems.
  • Hisar Intercontinental Hospital: Uses MR-LINAC and 3 Tesla MRI for high-precision tumor targeting and staging.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Clinical data shows Anadolu Medical Center's strategic Johns Hopkins affiliation gives it a distinct advantage. The partnership grants patients access to international tumor boards for complex lung cases. This academic oversight means treatment plans follow U.S. standards, but at a lower cost.

Patient Consensus: Patients report excellent results when combining chemotherapy with immunotherapy. Some see significant tumor reduction within four sessions. Patients also recommend confirming immunotherapy costs early. These sessions can cost substantially more than standard chemotherapy.

How are chemotherapy protocols determined for lung cancer in Istanbul clinics?

Istanbul clinics determine lung cancer chemotherapy protocols through multidisciplinary tumor boards. They integrate guidelines from the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). Regimens are tailored using histopathology, molecular biomarker profiling, and patient-specific health indices so the treatment is precise.

  • Multidisciplinary review: Specialists in oncology, thoracic surgery, and radiology work together to create targeted treatment plans.
  • Molecular profiling: Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) acquisition allows testing for EGFR, ALK, and ROS1 mutations.
  • Histological classification: Chemotherapy regimens differ by cancer type. Small cell and non-small cell lung cancer are treated differently.
  • Performance assessment: Doctors adjust the dosage based on renal function and the ECOG performance status scale.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Clinics like Anadolu Medical Center have a direct affiliation with Johns Hopkins Hospital. So their protocols often mirror American standards. Interestingly, Istanbul offers a unique choice between standard platinum-based doublets and precision oncology. In precision oncology, drug selection is entirely guided by the genetic profile of the tumor.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that exact regimens often change after final pathology results, so flexibility is key. Patients also note that chemotherapy is cost-effective. However, adding immunotherapy can greatly affect both the budget and the treatment timeline.

What logistical support is usually provided for foreign patients traveling to Istanbul for lung cancer chemotherapy?

International patients who come to Istanbul for lung cancer chemotherapy get concierge-level support. This includes medical record reviews, visa assistance, and private VIP airport transfers. Well-known JCI-accredited centers, such as Anadolu Medical Center and Memorial Bahçelievler, combine personalized coordination and translation services. This makes sure oncology treatment is smooth for foreign travelers.

  • Medical coordination: Personal coordinators manage appointment schedules, pathology reviews, and remote second opinions before arrival.
  • Language support: Dedicated multi-lingual interpreters accompany patients through every blood test and chemotherapy infusion session.
  • Logistical transfers: Free VIP vehicle transfers provide door-to-door transport between the airport, hotel, and clinic.
  • Accommodation help: Clinics help arrange priority booking at partnered 5-star hotels within 15 minutes of hospitals.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While clinics offer transfers, facilities like Hisar Hospital Intercontinental and Memorial Bahçelievler explicitly include these as free services for international patients. Patients should choose clinics with American hospital affiliations, such as Anadolu's tie with Johns Hopkins. This way, treatment protocols align with Western standards, and you can save around 98% compared to US costs.

Patient Consensus: Patients often stress how important international coordinators are for managing language barriers during complex oncology cycles. They recommend hiring a local caregiver if traveling alone. Hospital assistance usually ends once the infusion session is over.
