I would recommend this hospital to all patients
Hello, This is not the first time that I have been a patient from Turkmenistan at the Medipol Clinic. What can I say the doctors and staff are very friendly, helpful. The translator, which was provided by the Clinic, was very polite, it was immediately clear that the Specialist was in charge, there were no problems with the translation. I would recommend this hospital to all patients, but only I think one minus is that the price for the examination is high. Concerning Bookimed, I am very glad that Alexey and Varvara, very responsive guys working with this team, help me solve all problems in a difficult situation. Thank you very much. Guys for their help and I hope for further cooperation with you.

Expert Overview about Arthrosis Treatment in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Can arthosis be the knee be completely cured in Turkey?

Medical experts cannot completely cure knee arthrosis with current technology. Turkish clinics focus on managing symptoms and restoring mobility. Advanced treatments like robotic knee replacement or stem cell therapy effectively stop disease progression. These procedures provide long-term relief for many patients.

  • Treatment goal: Surgeons focus on pain elimination and restoring full joint function.
  • Modern technology: Clinics use robotic-assisted systems for precise implant placement and alignment.
  • Regenerative options: Stem cell injections and PRP therapy aim to stimulate cartilage repair.
  • Surgical success: Reputable Turkish centers report up to 95% success for joint replacements.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Our data shows clinics like Turan & Turan specialize in robotic-assisted surgeries. These centers often see faster recovery times due to high precision. Look for clinics performing over 1,000 orthopedic procedures annually. This high volume often correlates with better long-term implant stability.

Patient Consensus: Patients often mention the speed of getting back on their feet. Many feel surprised by how quickly they can walk without pain after surgery.

When is surgery recommended for knee arthrosis in Turkey?

Turkish surgeons recommend knee arthrosis surgery for Grade 3 or Grade 4 osteoarthritis. It is indicated when bone-on-bone contact occurs. Doctors advise intervention if conservative therapies fail after 3 to 6 months. Persistent rest pain and severe mobility limits also trigger surgical recommendations.

  • Diagnostic criteria: X-rays must show advanced cartilage loss or joint deformity.
  • Treatment failure: Symptoms persist after physical therapy, injections, and weight management programs.
  • Functional impact: Chronic pain prevents walking short distances or performing basic daily tasks.
  • Mechanical issues: Surgery corrects instances where the knee bows or frequently gives way.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While patients often fear age limits, Turkish specialists focus on functional health. Our data shows Anadolu Medical Center and KOC Hospital prioritize bone density over age. This allows patients over 75 to access robotic-assisted replacements. These advanced systems require smaller incisions and often reduce hospital stays.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that waiting too long made their recovery much harder. They emphasize checking if robotic options are included to help with walking sooner.

What is the typical recovery timeline after knee arthrosis surgery in Turkey?

Most patients walk with assistance within 24 hours of knee arthrosis surgery in Turkey. Total knee replacement recovery requires 1 to 3 days of hospitalization. Full mobility without assistance usually occurs by week 6. Complete joint strength typically returns within 6 to 12 months.

  • Hospital stay: Expect 1 to 3 nights for replacements or same-day discharge for arthroscopy.
  • Initial mobility: Patients use walkers or crutches for the first 1 to 6 weeks.
  • Work return: Desk work resumes in 4 weeks. Physical jobs require 3 months of healing.
  • Flight safety: Surgeons recommend waiting 2 to 6 weeks before flying long distances home.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish orthopedic centers often integrate early mobilization protocols. Our data shows clinics like Turan & Turan Health Group focus on robotic-assisted techniques. These advanced systems aim to improve incision precision. This often helps patients achieve independent walking faster than traditional manual surgery methods.

Patient Consensus: Patients note the first 2 weeks are the most intense for physical therapy. Many emphasize that having a dedicated translator makes coordinating daily exercise sessions much easier.

Which non-surgical options are offered for knee arthrosis in Turkish clinics?

Turkish clinics prioritize regenerative and conservative methods for knee arthrosis before considering surgery. Key non-surgical options include mesenchymal stem cell therapy (SVF) and Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) injections. Many centers also offer genicular artery embolization and hyaluronic acid lubrication to reduce inflammation and pain.

  • Regenerative injections: Mesenchymal stem cells from fat tissue help repair damaged joint surfaces.
  • Blood-derived therapy: PRP injections use concentrated patient platelets to stimulate natural cartilage healing.
  • Viscosupplementation: Hyaluronic acid injections act as shock absorbers by restoring lost joint fluid.
  • Minimally invasive GAE: Genicular artery embolization reduces blood flow to the inflamed knee lining.
  • Supportive care: Customized physical therapy and bracing redistribute pressure to stabilize the joint.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish clinics often combine non-surgical treatments into multi-day protocols. Some centers include physical therapy sessions immediately following regenerative injections. This approach ensures the joint remains mobile while biological repairs take place. It can lead to better functional outcomes than isolated injections alone.

Patient Consensus: Patients value how doctors explain the differences between PRP and stem cell options. They note that starting physical therapy quickly after injections helps reduce initial stiffness.

How soon can I walk and fly home after regenerative injections for knee arthrosis in Turkey?

Patients can typically walk immediately after regenerative knee injections in Turkey. Light walking is encouraged for short durations. You should wait at least 48 hours for short flights. Long-haul travel requires a 3 to 5 day wait to reduce swelling. Minimally invasive treatments allow for fast travel.

  • Walking day 1: Most patients walk out of the clinic after outpatient procedures.
  • Activity days 1–3: Limit movement to short 5–10 minute sessions to allow healing.
  • Short-haul flying: Wait 48 hours to manage cabin pressure and initial swelling.
  • Long-haul flying: Specialists recommend 3–5 days to minimize blood clot risks.
  • In-flight care: Wear compression stockings and stay hydrated during your return flight.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish clinics often package these injections with 1–2 nights of local stay. This matches the critical 48-hour observation window for flight safety. Recovery protocols are standardized across top centers to ensure patient comfort before travel.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that walking feels easier than expected. They suggest requesting an aisle seat for the flight back to move comfortably.
