I feel that we are in safe hands
What worried me most was the uncertainty following the diagnosis. But at the clinic, all the tests required for staging, including the scans, were carried out very quickly, which was a huge relief. The doctors explained the risk category in simple terms, and then we discussed all the possible treatment options in detail. All the specialists are on hand. I feel that we are in safe hands.
Everything's great. I'm really pleased with the results. A professional and meticulous approach. I'd definitely recommend them!

Expert Overview about Neuroblastoma Treatment in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Which hospitals in Turkey are reputable for neuroblastoma treatment?

Reputable Turkish hospitals for neuroblastoma include JCI-accredited centers like Anadolu Medical Center and Memorial Sisli Hospital. These facilities offer advanced immunotherapy and bone marrow transplants. Specialist teams use MIBG-scintigraphy and genetic research to stage high-risk pediatric cases for personalized treatment plans.

  • Anadolu Medical Center: Ranked among the world top 10 hospitals by MTQUA medical tourism authority.
  • Memorial Sisli Hospital: First Turkish hospital with JCI accreditation and a 252-bed specialized facility.
  • Medipol Mega University: Features the Da Vinci surgical system for precise pediatric tumor removal.
  • Medical Park Bahcelievler: Operates a dedicated pediatric hematology-oncology department with university-affiliated specialists.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Anadolu Medical Center stands out because of its formal affiliation with Johns Hopkins Hospital. This ensures international standards for complex procedures. Our data shows it treats 65,000 patients annually. For neuroblastoma, this high volume is vital. It means the surgical and oncology teams handle rare cases frequently. This leads to better outcomes in staging and tumor resection.

Patient Consensus: Parents find quick diagnostic staging a major relief during the initial stressful weeks. They recommend choosing large centers with dedicated pediatric ICUs and in-house translators to manage long-term treatment logistics.

What is the success rate of neuroblastoma treatment in Turkish pediatric centers?

Turkish pediatric centers report a 5-year survival rate around 68% for high-risk neuroblastoma. Lower-risk cases achieve survival rates up to 98% following international protocols. Specialized clinics utilize autologous stem cell transplants and CAR NK cell therapy to improve outcomes for children with advanced-stage disease.

  • Survival benchmarks: Recent studies show 5-year survival rates improved from 14% to over 50%.
  • Risk-stratified outcomes: Low-risk neuroblastoma patients see success rates reaching 98% in specialized Turkish hospitals.
  • Advanced procedures: Specific clinics report 90% success rates for autologous stem cell transplant protocols.
  • Expert surgical focus: Total removal of primary tumors significantly increases long-term survival for pediatric patients.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Quality signals for pediatric oncology in Turkey often correlate with high patient volumes and specialized certifications. For example, Medipol Mega University Hospital serves over 1,000,000 patients annually and was ranked specifically as the best clinic for pediatric cancer by Bookimed patients. Choosing a center with these specific volume-based credentials ensures access to experienced teams like those under Dr. Ceyhun Bozkurt, who trained at Harvard and Cincinnati Children’s.

Patient Consensus: Parents note that staging and diagnostic tests are performed very quickly in Istanbul. They emphasize that working with a high-volume team is essential for managing the uncertainty of a high-risk diagnosis.

Is immunotherapy available for high-risk neuroblastoma in Turkey?

Turkey offers advanced immunotherapy for high-risk neuroblastoma at specialized oncology centers. Treatment protocols often include CAR T-cell therapy and monoclonal antibodies. JCI-accredited hospitals in Istanbul provide these therapies alongside pediatric bone marrow transplants. Patients access these treatments through multidisciplinary teams of pediatric oncologists and surgeons.

  • Treatment methods: Clinics provide CAR T-cell therapy and specialized CAR NK cell therapy options.
  • Specialized specialists: Prof. Dr. Ceyhun Bozkurt manages neuroblastoma cases at Medical Park Bahcelievler Hospital.
  • Advanced diagnostics: Protocols utilize MIBG-scintigraphy and bone marrow biopsies for precise staging and monitoring.
  • Clinical expertise: Prof. Dr. Yesim Yildirim at Anadolu Medical Center specializes in advanced cancer immunotherapy.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Clinical data shows a concentration of neuroblastoma expertise in Istanbul. Prof. Dr. Ceyhun Bozkurt has published over 40 peer-reviewed studies on neuroblastoma. Centers like Medipol Mega serve over 1,000,000 patients annually. This high volume allows these facilities to maintain steady supplies of biological drugs. Choosing these large university-affiliated hospitals ensures access to the latest cell therapies.

Patient Consensus: Parents clarify that confirming anti-GD2 antibody availability is essential before starting the maintenance phase. Patients note that specialized centers in Istanbul provide fast staging and simple explanations of risk categories.

What does the typical neuroblastoma treatment journey include in Turkey?

Neuroblastoma treatment in Turkey follows a multidisciplinary journey spanning 12 to 15 months. It integrates molecular diagnostics with intensive therapies like autologous stem cell transplants. Turkish centers utilize JCI-accredited protocols to manage high-risk cases. Treatment includes induction chemotherapy, surgical resection, and advanced immunotherapy.

  • Initial diagnostics: MIBG scans and PET-CT pinpoint tumor location and spread.
  • Risk stratification: Specialists like Prof. Dr. Sema Yilmaz analyze genetic markers like MYCN.
  • Induction therapy: Intensive chemotherapy cycles aim to shrink tumors before surgical intervention.
  • Surgical removal: Surgeons use laparoscopic or robotic techniques for precise tumor resection.
  • Consolidation phase: High-risk patients receive high-dose chemotherapy followed by stem cell transplantation.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish oncology centers often lead in volume, with Medipol Mega treating 1,200 patients daily. Our data shows a pattern where top specialists like Prof. Dr. Ceyhun Bozkurt combine stem cell expertise with neuroblastoma care. This double specialization is vital. It ensures the transition from induction chemo to transplant is seamless within the same facility.

Patient Consensus: Parents note that staging and scans happen very quickly in Istanbul. This speed provides relief during a high-stress diagnosis period. They appreciate having dedicated translators who stay with them throughout the entire medical journey.

Do Turkish hospitals provide international-patient support services?

Bookimed Expert Insight: Anadolu Medical Center maintains a unique advantage through its Johns Hopkins affiliation. This partnership ensures that international administrative protocols match American standards. Our data shows this consistency is vital for neuroblastoma cases requiring complex MIBG-scintigraphy and multidisciplinary pediatric oncology coordination.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that having a fixed translator and on-site currency exchange makes arriving in Istanbul much easier. They appreciate when clinics explain complex risk categories in simple terms during the staging process.
