All You Need to Know about Eyebrow transplantation

When is an eyebrow transplant the best solution?

Eyebrow transplantation is a great option for women who are tired of their regular coloring and daily correction with cosmetics. The procedure provides a long-lasting, natural result, unlike tattooing and microblading.

Transplantation allows:

  • make eyebrows symmetrical, thicker and thicker, create a shape that is in harmony with facial features as much as possible;
  • restore hair growth disturbed due to:
    • focal alopecia (diffuse loss);
    • hormonal failure;
    • chemotherapy and radiation therapy (in the treatment of cancer);
    • trauma that provoked the appearance of a scar;
    • burn;
    • unsuccessful tattoo or microblading;
    • stress
    • excessive plucking.

What are the indications and contraindications for the procedure?

The main indications for eyebrow transplantation are:

  • thinning due to the influence of any factors;
  • congenital asymmetry, irregular shape and the presence of bald spots.

The main contraindications include factors that prevent skin healing and graft engraftment. These include:

  • blood clotting disorder;
  • diabetes;
  • HIV (in some clinics, the procedure is carried out);
  • allergy to local anesthesia;
  • mental disorders (for example, tricholopomania, in which a person pulls out his hair);
  • infectious diseases;
  • skin diseases (eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis);
  • age up to 17 years, since changes in the hormonal background in the process of growing up can provoke the loss of transplanted follicles.

How to choose a clinic?

To choose the best medical center for eyebrow transplant, you need to focus on:

  • Available Methods

It is important that low-traumatic methods of eyebrow implantation are available in the clinic - FUE, HFE / DHI.

  • Eyebrow Transplant Reviews

Read the reviews of the center's clients to understand whether they are satisfied with the result, the quality of the procedure and the level of service.

  • Photo of eyebrow transplant before and after the procedure

Based on the pictures, you can understand whether other patients of the clinic have obtained high-quality and natural results.

What are the transfer methods?

For hair transplantation on the eyebrows, low-traumatic techniques are used that do not leave scars - DHI / HFE and FUE.

FUE (Follicular unit extraction/excision)

The collection of hair follicles during transplantation by the FUE method is carried out using a special punch (stamp) - FUE machine. The doctor divides the resulting grafts into bundles of 1-2 hairs. After that, using a thin scalpel, he makes micro incisions in the area of the eyebrows and implants follicles in them, setting them in a natural direction of growth and angle of inclination.

DHI (Direct Hair Transplant) - direct hair transplant or HFE (Hand follicular extraction) - CFE (manual follicular isolation)

During the DHI procedure, follicular associations are harvested manually using a punch, a sharp tube with a diameter of up to 0.8 mm. To transplant the resulting hairs, use the Choi implanter pen. According to the principle of operation, the implanter is similar to an automatic ballpoint pen: the doctor places hairs in the rod and, by pressing a button, introduces them into the skin.

Direct implantation of the eyebrows is less traumatic than FUE, since it does not require incisions in the area of thinning.

FUT technique (Follicular unit transplantation/strip method/strip method/patchwork hair transplant) is an outdated type of eyebrow implantation. Leading clinics in the world do not use this technique, as it leaves scars.

How does eyebrow hair transplant work?

Eyebrow hair transplantation consists of the following steps:

  1. Training

It includes a consultation with a specialist and a blood test for hormone levels (it is important that it is normal, otherwise the transplanted hairs may fall out).

Design creation

The client and the doctor approve the future shape, size and location of the eyebrows, and draw the model with a pencil on the face.

Hair follicle harvesting and implantation

The procedure takes place under local anesthesia. For implantation, the doctor uses grafts (groups of follicles), which contain 1-2 bulbs. On average, 50-400 bulbs are required for 1 eyebrow. The donor area is the back of the head or the area behind the ears.

Depending on the type of implantation, the doctor takes the follicles using a punch or FUE machine. He implants the hairs in the eyebrow area using a scalpel and tweezers or a Choi instrument. At the same time, the specialist sets the direction of growth and the angle of inclination to the hairs, which correspond to the natural ones. On average, the intervention lasts 2-4 hours.

After that, the doctor puts a bandage on the donor area, and the patient can go to the hotel.

Postoperative consultation

The next day after the operation, the person comes to the clinic for a consultation. The specialist examines the eyebrows and the donor area, gives recommendations on how to care for them. After that, you can fly home.

How is the recovery going, and what kind of care is needed?

Postoperative period

After transplantation, itching, burning, redness, swelling can be observed both in the eyebrow area and at the donor site. On average, this goes away in 5-7 days.

Crusts in the area of transplantation disappear after 5-14 days (depending on the individual characteristics of the organism).

Care

For the first 3 days, it is important not to wet the eyebrows in order to speed up the healing of the skin, and to treat them with the means that the specialist will prescribe.

Regrown hairs need to be laid with a special gel to fix them in the right direction and make them more well-groomed.

If the hair grows longer than you would like, it is important that the haircut is done by a professional who knows about the peculiarities of their growth and will not spoil the shape.

What determines the price of an eyebrow transplant?

The cost of an eyebrow transplant depends on the following factors:

  • Number of follicles to be transplanted

The larger the thinning area, the more hair needs to be implanted, and accordingly, the higher the price of an eyebrow transplant.

  • Selected country

The cost of eyebrow transplantation in a particular country is affected by the general level of prices for medical services. For example, in the centers of Turkey, the procedure will cost less than in the medical centers of South Korea and European countries. But this difference does not affect the quality of transplantation.

  • Selected medical center

Each clinic has its own pricing policy. The list of non-medical services included in the price also differs. In some centers , the price for an eyebrow transplant includes airport transfers, hotel accommodation and translation services, in others it does not. To avoid additional costs, ask your Bookimed medical coordinator about clinics that offer package pricing.

When is the result of the procedure visible, and how to improve it?

Normalization of hair growth begins in 1.5-2 months, after 6-12 months the final result of the procedure is visible. To improve the survival of transplanted follicles and accelerate their growth, it is important to follow these recommendations:

  • do not remove the crusts, as they should fall off on their own;
  • do not scratch your eyebrows during their healing period;
  • 2 weeks do not sleep on your stomach to avoid contact of the eyebrows with the bed and accidental trauma;
  • 2 weeks to avoid serious physical exertion, prolonged exposure to the sun and in the water.

Ask your doctor about additional procedures (eg PRP therapy) and products (vitamins, cosmetics) that he recommends to improve the result.
