Did you know that over 1 million people travel to Turkey each year for medical procedures, including the deep plane facelift? One of the biggest draws of Turkey is affordability; patients can undergo a deep plane facelift for $2,200 to $8,000, compared to $9,000 to $30,000 in the US. Despite the lower costs, Turkey's clinics are accredited by organizations like the Joint Commission International (JCI), ensuring high standards of care. This Bookimed guide will help patients discover why Turkey is a top choice for those seeking a refreshed appearance through a deep plane facelift.

What is a Deep Plane Facelift?

traditional facelift

A deep plane facelift is a type of cosmetic surgery that lifts and tightens the deeper layers of the face. It focuses on areas under the skin, like facial muscles and tissues, instead of just pulling the skin tight. Patients choose this facelift technique to achieve a more rejuvenated appearance.

🟢A key area it targets is the Superficial Musculo-Aponeurotic System (SMAS), a deeper tissue layer responsible for much of the sagging. Addressing this layer makes the results look more natural and last around 10 to 15 years.

This procedure also tackles deep wrinkles and sagging skin, providing a more youthful appearance. The deep plane facelift surgery repairs facial contours, smoothing the jawline and preventing the formation of a double chin. It also helps to slim the cheeks.

šŸ”ŽDid you know? The deep plane facelift was introduced in the early 1990s by a prominent plastic surgeon, Dr. Sam Hamra. His goal was to achieve a more natural-looking facelift by focusing on deeper facial layers

Who is a good candidate for a deep plane facelift?

  • šŸ‘µ Moderate to severe aging. Suitable for those with sagging skin and deep wrinkles, especially in the lower face and neck.

  • šŸŽÆ Best age: 40 to 60. Most effective when aging signs are noticeable, but the skin still has good elasticity.

  • šŸ„ Good health. Candidates should be in good health, without conditions like heart disease or diabetes.

  • 🚭 Non-smokers. Non-smokers or those willing to quit before and after surgery for better healing.

šŸ‘‰Smoking raises the risk of complications after plastic surgery, including facelifts. Although the risk is lower than for more invasive procedures like tummy tucks or breast reconstruction, smokers are still 3.36 times more likely to experience issues like delayed healing.

  • 🌟 Realistic expectations. Understands that the procedure provides long-lasting results but won't stop aging entirely.

  • šŸ’Ŗ Good skin elasticity. Better results for those with decent skin quality and elasticity for tightening underlying facial tissues.

Is a Deep Plane Facelift Worth It?

  1. ā³ Long-lasting results. The deep plane facelift addresses deeper tissues, providing results that last up to 10 to 15 years, far longer than traditional facelifts (5 to 10 years).

  2. 🌟 Natural appearance. Lifting the underlying muscles and tissues provides a more natural look. It helps avoid the tight, stretched appearance that can come with other facelift methods.

  3. šŸ’Ž Improves facial contours. This procedure enhances the jawline, prevents a double chin, and restores volume to sagging cheeks, giving the face a well-defined structure.

  4. ✨ Reduces signs of aging. It smooths out deep wrinkles, such as nasolabial folds, while lifting sagging skin. This results in a refreshed, youthful appearance.

  5. šŸ”— Comprehensive rejuvenation. The deep plane facelift can be paired with other procedures, like a neck lift or mini facelift, allowing multiple areas to be treated in one surgery.

  6. šŸ•’ Quicker recovery. Because the deeper layers are repositioned, the healing process is usually faster and more comfortable. This technique also leads to more natural-looking results as the skin heals smoothly.

  7. 🩹 Minimal scarring. Surgeons use precise techniques to keep scars well-hidden and minimal, often placing them in natural creases. This makes the scars nearly invisible once healed.

šŸ‘‰The study Welfare and Self-Assessment in Patients after Aesthetic and Reconstructive Treatments showed that 66% of patients experienced improved self-esteem and body self-perception after procedures like the deep plane facelift. Particularly among those aged 40-60, the surgery restores a youthful appearance and enhances life satisfaction.Ā

For patients over 48, there was a strong link between improved body image and higher life satisfaction, highlighting the procedure's positive impact on both physical appearance and emotional well-being.

Verified review.
I decided to undergo a facelift and fat transfer with Dr. Safa Manav in Istanbul, and I'm a patient who has previously had liposuction, lip lift, and thread lift surgeries in Istanbul at another clinic. So, I was very curious to make a comparison. I will not mention the other clinic, but I will say that Dr. Manav is a cut above. It's only four days post-surgery, but I am impressed with everyone I have interacted with. Delf, who handles the "What to do?" app while you're still in your country, provides clear and prompt information about what's happening. Upon arrival, a driver picked me up; the car had a TV, WiFi, water, and a very polite driver. Then I met Elif (her full name is Elif Bilge Yavuz), who is your coordinator. She speaks excellent English and understands everything perfectly; she is smart and empathetic, and I can fully understand why Dr. Manav brought her along when creating his clinic win. This woman is a real powerhouse. You feel completely safe in her hands when she performs heart and blood tests from day one to determine if surgery is an option. During the consultation, I tested Dr. Safa Manav by asking him about additional procedures I was not really interested in and knew I didn't need. I wanted to check if the clinic was only interested in money. He immediately advised against these procedures, saying they were unnecessary and that I did not need them. Moreover, he advised me not to have any of the procedures as he didn’t see that I would need them at any point. This completely convinced me that the clinic and his priorities are focused on patients, not his bank account. I also wanted the doctor to ensure that I looked natural, as I don’t like overly large lips or a very small nose, and I could see that he made a great effort to maintain naturalness. This was also very important to me. But, of course, I understand that some patients prefer that non-natural look. During the consultation, he was very clear and understandable. I also considered hiring him to remove old implants at a later stage, so we discussed that too. On the morning of the surgery, I was told I was the only person he was operating on, which was also very reassuring. He came twice to check on me and reassured me. The hospital is impeccable. It's like a five-star hotel. I had a private room with a bathroom and my own nurse from Dr. Manav, as well as hospital nurses who took care of me. If I pressed the button, they immediately arrived. They constantly checked my condition for 24 hours while I was in the hospital. Even if no medication was needed, they still came and checked on me, like clockwork. I had some minor swelling and mild pain, but I think each patient is individual. By evening on the day of surgery, I was already walking the corridors without support and even managed to watch a movie. Which was completely unexpected. But, of course, I wouldn’t say that it will be the same for you, as everyone heals differently. I have now returned to the Antwell Hotel. Every day, Elif or her friend Busa comes to see me. They take photos to send to the doctor and check the dressings. They ensure I haven’t forgotten to take my daily medication. They visit daily, ask if I've eaten, or taken a walk. The hotel is an apartment hotel. I even have a washing machine, dryer, and dishwasher. The hotel is impeccably clean, with nurses in the building, and each room has emergency buttons. There's a Smart TV and adjustable heating. The hotel features restaurants, a pool, spa, library, cinema room, rooftop terrace, and even an art room. The staff is amazing. My speaker charging cable broke, and the concierge went out to get a new cable. Within an hour. Because I didn’t feel strong enough to walk outside. Most residents here are patients, so you meet people in the corridors, elevators, cafes, but if you want privacy, that is respected too. A big shopping mall is a five-minute walk away, called Emaar mall. It's an excellent mall. Two days after the operation, I felt good enough to walk around it for three hours on my own. There are also several cafes near the hotel. I haven’t even seen the results of the surgery yet, as I am still bandaged. However, from a professional standpoint, regarding the team, cleanliness, work, staff behavior, accommodation, and transportation, I honestly cannot fault it. And I can compare because I have been here before and had surgeries in Istanbul. It far surpasses my other experience. And my other experience was not bad at all. I would also like to say that the hospital staff was amazing. I live abroad and, over my 53 years, have encountered hospital staff in many countries. It seems the staff enjoys their work; it seems they truly care. Unfortunately, I have not seen this in the UK, NHS, India, Cambodia, or Spain. In a world where so many people chase fame and wealth online and are no longer interested in normal work, it was so wonderful to see people in their 20s working in care services, working hard and long, enjoying it, and doing an amazing job. I cannot be more grateful for witnessing this. They all deserve awards and much more recognition than they receive. When I recover, I will write another review dedicated to the results of the surgery itself. I have not been paid to write this review. I do not know anyone from Dr. Manav’s clinic staff. This is an honest review of my personal experience.

Facelift Procedure Steps: A Deep Plane Approach

A deep plane facelift is an advanced facial rejuvenation technique that goes beyond simply tightening the skin. It targets deeper layers of tissue, providing longer-lasting and more natural-looking results.

1ļøāƒ£The procedure starts with incisions along the hairline and around the ears, enabling the surgeon to access deeper facial layers.Ā

2ļøāƒ£The underlying tissues are then lifted and repositioned to enhance facial contours, define the jawline, and reduce the risk of a double chin.

āž• In some cases, a neck lift is done alongside the facelift to further improve the overall outcome. The surgery usually requires general anesthesia and can last several hours, depending on its complexity.

āš•ļøHow is a facelift performed?

Facelift procedure steps Description
Anesthesia The surgeon administers general anesthesia to ensure patient comfort.
Incisions The surgeon makes small incisions along the hairline and around the ears.
Tissue repositioning The surgeon lifts and repositions the SMAS layer and other tissues to improve contours.
Excess skin removal Excess skin and fat around the jawline and neck are removed.
Optional neck lift A neck lift enhances results if included in the procedure.
Closing the incisions The surgeon closes the incisions carefully to minimize scarring.
Recovery process Patients follow post-op care instructions for a smooth recovery over several weeks.

Optimal Deep Plane Facelift Recovery

The recovery period for a deep plane facelift typically lasts around 2-3 weeks. During this time, patients may experience swelling, bruising, and numbness in the face and neck, which are normal side effects that usually subside as healing progresses.

🟢Following the surgeon's instructions is essential to ensure a smooth healing process.

Deep plane facelift recovery recommendations

  • šŸ’Š Follow the medication schedule. Take prescribed medications as directed by your surgeon to manage pain and reduce swelling.

  • 🩺 Attend follow-up appointments. Regular check-ups with your surgeon ensure proper healing and monitor your progress.

  • šŸ›Œ Rest and avoid strenuous activities. Avoid heavy lifting and exercise for at least 2-3 weeks to prevent strain on the face.

  • 🚫 Avoid smoking. Smoking can slow down healing and affect your final results, so it's important to quit during recovery.

  • ā˜€ļø Limit sun exposure. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can damage healing skin and cause complications.

  • ā„ļø Manage swelling and bruising. Expect some swelling and bruising. Use cold compresses as recommended to reduce discomfort.

Deep Plane Facelift Before And After Photos

Seeing before and after photos of a deep plane facelift with Bookimed can give a clear idea of this procedure's dramatic yet natural results.Ā

Non-Surgical Treatment Alternatives

For those not ready for surgery, there are effective non-surgical alternatives to a deep plane facelift.

🟢Facial fillers

Hyaluronic acid injections add volume and smooth wrinkles, ideal for mild signs of aging. The procedure involves injecting filler to plump the skin. Results last 6-18 months but don't address sagging skin like a deep plane facelift surgery.

🟢Chemical peels

Chemical peels improve skin texture and reduce fine lines. The treatment removes the outer layer of damaged skin but doesn't lift deeper layers or fix loose skin.

🟢Laser skin resurfacing

Laser treatments reduce wrinkles and improve skin quality. Lasers target the skin's surface to stimulate collagen but can't address deeper facial tissues or more advanced signs of aging.

These treatments offer short-term results but don't compare to the long-lasting effects of a deep plane facelift.

skin sagging plastic surgeries doctor

"Patients can expect longer-lasting results from a deep plane facelift compared to more superficial techniques, often appearing 12 to 15 years younger after surgery."

— Dr. Kadir Oyur, a plastic surgeon with 12 years of experience

Deep plane facelift vs. alternative treatments

Treatment Best For Benefits Drawbacks Duration
Deep Plane Facelift Significant sagging, deep wrinkles Long-lasting, lifts deeper tissues Invasive, longer recovery 10-15 years
Facial Fillers Mild wrinkles, volume loss Quick, non-invasive Temporary, needs maintenance 6-18 months
Chemical Peels Surface wrinkles, uneven tone Improves texture, fine lines Only surface-level results Varies (months)
Laser Resurfacing Sun damage, mild wrinkles Smoother skin, minimal downtime Doesn't address sagging Months to 1 year

šŸ’øThe cost of a deep plane facelift and its non-surgical alternatives can vary greatly depending on the country. Turkey is known for offering significantly lower prices, with potential savings of 60% to 80% compared to the UK and US.Ā

Procedure Cost Range in Turkey (USD) Cost Range in the UK (USD) Cost Range in the US (USD)
Deep plane facelift $2,200 - $8,000 $12,500 - $22,700 $9,000 - $30,000
Facial fillers $300 - $800 per syringe $500 - $1,500 per syringe $500 - $2,000 per syringe
Chemical peels $100 - $500 $150 - $1,200 $600 - $2,000
Laser resurfacing $1,200 - $3,500 $1,800 - $3,500 $2,000 - $5,000

Deep Plane Facelift ComplicationsĀ

While a deep plane facelift is generally safe, like any surgical procedure, it carries some risks. Understanding these potential complications helps patients ensure a smoother recovery. With careful post-operative care and by following the surgeon's guidelines, these risks can be minimized.

deep plane facelift turkey success rate

šŸ‘‰A systematic review shows the remarkable long-term success of facelift procedures, including the deep plane facelift, with 95.6% of studies indicating stable and lasting results.

Here are some of the most common risks associated with this procedure:

  • 🩸 Bleeding and infection. Minor bleeding and infection can occur but are rare. Following wound care and taking antibiotics helps prevent this.

  • 🩹 Scarring. Some scarring is possible, though surgeons place incisions carefully. These are typically hidden along the hairline and around the ears. Most scars fade over time with proper care.

  • ⚔ Nerve damage. There is a small chance of nerve damage, potentially affecting facial sensation or movement temporarily or, rarely, permanently.

  • šŸ”„ Revision surgery. Revision surgery may be needed if results aren't satisfactory, due to healing issues or patient preferences.

šŸ‘‰A study of 100 patients who underwent deep SMAS facelift surgery found it to be highly effective, with 92 patients not needing any revisions. This indicates great results

  • ā„ļøTemporary swelling, bruising, or changes in skin sensation are common but usually improve as healing progresses.

🟢Those with underlying health conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease, or a weakened immune system, may face a higher risk of complications like infection or delayed healing. Smokers and individuals with thin or fragile skin are also more susceptible to scarring and wound-healing problems.

FAQs

How to prepare for a deep plane faceliftā“

By taking these steps, patients will pave the way for a smoother deep plane facelift and a faster recovery.

  • šŸ“ Consult with your surgeon. Discuss your goals and medical history with your deep plane facelift surgeon. Ask about the procedure, recovery, and potential risks to ensure you're fully informed.

  • šŸ“‹ Follow pre-op instruction. Stop any medications or supplements as advised by your surgeon to ensure a safe facelift surgery and smooth recovery.

  • 🚭 Quit smoking. Stop smoking at least 4-6 weeks before the surgery to improve wound healing and overall recovery.

  • šŸš— Arrange for post-surgery care. Have someone ready to drive you home and assist with tasks in the first few days of your recovery period.

  • šŸ›Œ Prepare your recovery space. Set up a comfortable area with pillows to elevate your head, and have essential items like medications and cold compresses for post-surgery care.

What are the different types of faceliftsā“

The type of facelift chosen varies according to the targeted areas and desired outcomes, addressing specific aging issues.

Type Target Areas Best for Candidates Recovery Time
Mini facelift Lower face and neck Early signs of aging, mild sagging Younger patients with minor sagging 1-2 weeks
Full facelift Entire face and neck Significant sagging, deep wrinkles Patients with moderate to severe aging 2-4 weeks
Deep plane facelift Deeper facial layers (SMAS) Advanced aging, natural long-term lift Ideal for older patients or those with deep sagging 3-4 weeks

What age is best for a deep plane faceliftā“

The ideal age for a deep plane facelift usually falls between 40 and 60. During this period, people often notice more obvious signs of aging, such as sagging skin and deep wrinkles. Fortunately, the skin still retains enough elasticity for the best possible outcomes. However, everyone's situation is unique, so consulting with a surgeon is essential to find the right timing for the procedure.
