How Much Does Otoplasty (ear surgery) Cost in Cancún?

Otoplasty (ear surgery) in Cancún typically costs from $2,600 to $4,200 depending on the complexity of the ear correction. Patients save around 62% compared to the US, where this procedure costs $5,500 on average. Most quotes in this city cover the surgeon fee, local anesthesia, and clinic facility charges.

  • Technique complexity: Prices vary based on whether the case requires simple pinning or cartilage reconstruction.
  • Bilateral versus unilateral: Correcting both ears usually costs approximately 30-40% more than a single ear.
  • Clinic certification: Facilities with international JCI or ASPS accreditations often reflect premium safety standards.
  • Anesthesia type: Using general anesthesia instead of local sedation typically adds to the total cost.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Cancún serves as a specialized destination for American patients seeking high-volume plastic surgery expertise. The city concentrates several board-certified specialists with over 30 years of experience, such as Dr. Rafael Velasco Marin. Riviera Institute For Plastic Surgery even features surgeons recognized by Forbes and the Doctoralia Awards. Choosing these high-rated clinics ensures access to specialists accredited by both Mexican (CMCPER) and American (ASPS) boards.

The journey has been positive so far
For anyone considering this surgery, I wanted to share my initial thoughts. I opted for the malleable (semi-rigid) implant. It's still very early in my recovery, so it's genuinely too early to tell what the final outcome will be, but the journey has been positive so far. The clinic environment was great, and I appreciated the friendly staff, which made a real difference in feeling comfortable. I was also pleased that there were no additional expenses on top of the price we agreed on. The clinic team has stayed in touch with me since the procedure, which is very reassuring. It was a solid experience.

All the staff and doctors were skilled, helpful, and very kind; my experience has been very good
All the staff and doctors were skilled, helpful, and very kind; my experience has been very good. My main concern was finding the right surgeon, and I'm happy with my choice for a deep plane facelift. The procedure addressed my full face and neck, and so far, my recovery is progressing about as expected. The clinic has been supportive, providing a clear aftercare guide and being easy to reach. Just note that my medications were an additional expense of $4000 pesos. My best advice: check reviews.
All the staff and doctors were skilled, helpful, knowledgeable, and very kind. My experience has been very good.

My experience with the surgeon, staff, and clinic has been very positive
If a friend was considering this, I'd tell them my experience with the surgeon, staff, and clinic has been very positive. At this point in my recovery, everything is feeling about as expected. The clinic team has stayed in touch, and I really appreciated that there were no additional expenses on top of what I initially paid. That was a relief. My main piece of advice would be to prepare well for your consultation. I would suggest asking for more time with the doctor before surgery and to bring pictures of what you’d like done specifically to make sure you're aligned.
I was assisted from beginning to end! Great price with a great and safe experience.

This doctor is AWESOME
My biggest concern going into this was the recovery, especially after combining all four procedures. And it is tough. The diastasis recti repair is still very tender, and my biggest mobility challenge is just getting out of bed. It’s a slow process. That said, I can already see an amazing difference in my waist, and my entire torso, which makes the discomfort feel purposeful. This doctor is AWESOME. The support from the surgeon and the entire team was excellent. My most practical advice for other moms is that consistent help is essential for childcare. You will not be able to manage it alone.
This doctor is EXCELLENT. He’s certified, he’s up to date on all treatments. He is judicious and skilled at not just the Sufi al techniques but the aesthetics of the craft. His personality is calm and kind and his staff is supportive. I have had two procedures with him over these past three months and plan to make him ‘my doctor.’ Love this clinic!
Honestly, not really anything except for maybe a clearer structure of post-op recovery therapies and a liaison service or someone to help schedule them efficiently.

Even with initial swelling, the contouring from my full abdominoplasty and liposuction on my flanks is already so much better than expected
The thing that surprised me most was seeing my new waistline so early in the healing process. Even with initial swelling, the contouring from my full abdominoplasty and liposuction on my flanks is already so much better than expected. Recovery has its challenges. For me, the hardest part is that the drains are annoying, but I know that's temporary and part of the journey. My new belly button is healing nicely, which was a relief. The entire team at the clinic was excellent, from the surgeon to the nursing staff. It’s been a solid process so far.
I had a great experience with Dr. Marroquin and staff.
I was not given correct information about the required duration of my stay after surgery. I was also told I needed to lose a significant amount of weight after I booked the surgery and paid the deposit. I had already arranged my flights and hotel and had to reschedule because there was no possible way to lose that amount of weight in the original time frame.

If a friend asked me about this clinic for eyelid surgery, my answer would be an absolute no. I chose the traditional incision method for both my upper and lower lids, and the process has been concerning. My biggest challenge is dealing with dry eyes constantly, which is a persistent discomfort throughout the day. The incision lines are still quite red, but the aesthetic result is the most upsetting part. When I smile, you can clearly see how one side is different from the other. The lack of care from the surgeon and staff was palpable. I would not recommend this clinic to anyone.
The doctor did not need with me before the surgery to ask anything that I wanted. They did not do a good job on the surgery. I would not go back

The surgeon and staff were supportive throughout
My main concern going into this was how difficult the recovery would be, and it is definitely a process. The surgeon and staff were supportive throughout. For my extended tummy tuck, they created a new position for my belly button, and my abdomen feels very tight now, which is a good sign. While my stomach is already looking flatter, it's still swollen. The biggest challenge by far is just standing up straight. My advice is to make sure your home is prepared for you to heal and recover in comfort. It really helps. Also, measure yourself before purchasing any faja or compression gear, as the sizes differ so much across different sites.
My coordinator, Carlo, was amazing. He was prompt with answers to any questions. Surgeon, Dr Ayala was very personable and friendly. Staff at clinic was nurturing.
Maybe some post recovery snacks would have been nice.

I'm relieved to say my incisions are already well-hidden behind my ears
My biggest worry beforehand was about scarring and the recovery process. I'm relieved to say my incisions are already well-hidden behind my ears. The surgeon performed a deep plane lift, and the result so far is a jawline with noticeable new definition. My neck feels comfortably snug, not painfully tight. The hardest part of recovery has been sleeping elevated, which is to be expected but still challenging. Overall, the process with the clinic and staff was very straightforward. My one tip for others would be to prepare your kitchen in advance: get soft foods and melons, fresh fruits or steam-able vegetables like carrots. You'll want to take small bites at first.
The surgery had to be delayed because I was not feeling well right after arriving at my hotel. I came from outside Mexico for the procedure. We were able to do it a week later, and I stayed extra days for the reschedule. The staff is great and very personable. On the phone I spoke to and messaged the Doctor's personal assistant, and he speaks and writes great English. On the day of surgery, I stayed overnight following the procedure, and my night nurse had her phone set up so we could speak, translating questions, answers, and instructions back and forth. The dinner was beverages, yogurt, freshly made grilled chicken with steamed vegetables, the morning breakfast was eggs, yogurt with melon for breakfast. I stayed in a private room. I saw Dr. Aguilera right after I was prepped for surgery by the anesthesiologist and two nurses, who introduced themselves. Dr. Aguilera met me in the operating room, before I was given the final dose of sleeping medication, and was the first person I saw, still in the operating room, when emerging from anesthesia. The following day, the doctor checked my sutures and gave me some advice about what to do and not to do, the following day. He was satisfied with my recovery, so my head and neck were wrapped up for the Uber ride back to my hotel apartment. We had a stove, microwave, dishes and a full refrigerator in the room where we were staying. This is so convenient for gel packs, fresh foods and juices. I felt extremely comfortable traveling home on a three-hour flight, 10 days after the operation. Based on my experience, Plan fourteen days, giving yourselves an opportunity to settle in will make for a much more gratifying experience. Mexico City is quite easy to travel around, and since it is high altitude, the best way to adjust is to see the city or neighborhood you live in as you prepare for your procedure. I highly recommend Dr. Aguilera; I am healing well, and I am happy with the results.
The internet reception is not good on the sidewalk in front of the building, probably due to the other tall buildings. Just make sure you have made any arrangements for pick-up in the office where the wi-fi is.

I felt like both were done taking exactly what I wanted into account and the overall symmetry at the end for my nostrils was excellent - my nose had been broken and before surgery lack of symmetry was a big issue
I had a really great experience with my doctor and care here. I wanted a very natural looking nose, not to look "doll-like" or like I had a rhinoplasty. Same for lip filler. I felt like both were done taking exactly what I wanted into account and the overall symmetry at the end for my nostrils was excellent - my nose had been broken and before surgery lack of symmetry was a big issue. I believe it required different degrees of cutting for each nostril so I'm very impressed that the end result's symmetry appears less than 1mm different from one another, that's a huge improvement from before. The shape is really nice and I was impressed that after surgery the packing was done in such a way that I was able to breathe through my nose the whole time, even during my recovery.

Their staff was very accommodating and thoughtful - everyone was super nice and considerate, especially Sara and Maria
First off, I used Aura Wellness Center, instead of Alice Beauty Clinic. And, their staff was very accommodating and thoughtful - everyone was super nice and considerate, especially Sara and Maria. Sara was the best English speaker there and helped me with everything. Maria was kind, warm, and also a great English speaker. They made it less lonely since I had this journey alone. Through Bookimed, I was assisted by Confidence, she was super thoughtful and checked up on me. She made sure I had connections with my medical coordinator and doctor. My coordinator was named Carlos. He was kind, answering all my questions and even texted me after my surgery numerous time to ensure I was recovering and satisfied with my results. My doctor was Dr. Ayala. I can't say much about him since he was in and out of the surgery room. I met him briefly. And, I'm unsure of my results as I am only one month post-op.
The staff at the clinic was accommodating. The coordinator from Bookimed and from the doctor ensured my questions were answered.
Dr. Ayala's brevity and lack of check up after the surgery. I didn't meet him more than 15 (when I was conscious since I was under anesthesia when he operated on me).

Terrible surgeon. Will not take the time to speak with you, when he does he knows limited English and is very very rushed. The first time me he gave me results that were so drastic I looked like a pig or someone from who-ville. I had to pay for a second surgery for him to give me my old nose but even worse! (Again super rushed, had zero time to make a decision). Absolutely awful experience. Scary. He refused to even try to fix my nose now for another 6 months. Even though I offered to pay again. Have to date and see friends humiliated with a half finished face. Go to someone with talent and who actually cares. He doesn’t. You are just a number to the surgeons there.

FAQ about treatment in Mexico

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

How long is the recovery time for otoplasty in Cancún?

Initial otoplasty recovery in Cancún takes 1 to 2 weeks for most patients. You can typically return to light daily activities or work within 3 to 7 days. Full healing usually takes 4 to 8 weeks. Final refined results appear after about 2 months.

  • Hospital stay: Most procedures are outpatient, requiring no overnight hospital stay.
  • Local stay: Plan 7 to 10 days in Cancún for suture removal.
  • Protective headband: Wear a headband 24/7 for 2 weeks, then nightly for 1 month.
  • Physical activity: Avoid strenuous exercise or contact sports for at least 6 weeks.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While initial recovery is quick, choosing a board-certified surgeon is vital for long-term safety. Clinics like Riviera Institute for Plastic Surgery hold JCI accreditation and American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) membership. These credentials in Cancún help make sure your recovery follows strict international safety standards.

Patient Consensus: Expect the first 3 days to be the most uncomfortable for pain. Patients recommend a donut pillow. This helps you sleep upright and protects your ears during the first 2 weeks.

What are the risks and potential side effects of otoplasty?

Otoplasty is a safe procedure with satisfaction rates over 95%. Common side effects include temporary swelling, bruising, and itching. Rare risks involve asymmetry, infection, or hematomas. Board-certified surgeons in Cancún reduce these complications by using techniques at JCI-accredited facilities.

  • Asymmetry: Ears may heal with slight differences in position, contour, or balance.
  • Sensation changes: Temporary numbness or tingling around the surgical site is common during healing.
  • Over-correction: Ears might appear pinned too close to the head if pulled excessively.
  • Suture extrusion: Internal permanent stitches can occasionally poke through the skin, requiring simple removal.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Cancún clinics like Kaloni require surgeons to be recertified every 5 years by the CMCPER. This rigorous oversight makes sure doctors stay up-to-date on safety protocols. High-volume centers here handle 350+ patients a year. This volume significantly reduces the clinical margin for error in aesthetic outcomes.

Patient Consensus: While pain is often mild, the real challenge is sleeping upright or on your back for several weeks. Patients report that swelling can make ears look over-pinned initially, so patience is key during the first month.

Will I have visible scars after otoplasty in Cancún?

Otoplasty in Cancún typically leaves no visible scarring on the front of the ears. Board-certified surgeons place incisions within the natural crease behind the ear, so scars stay naturally concealed. After a year of healing, they become nearly undetectable thin white lines.

  • Incision placement: Surgeons hide incisions in the posterior auricular crease behind the ear.
  • Healing timeline: Scars fade from pink to skin-colored within 3 to 6 months.
  • Long-term visibility: Most scars mature into faint, thin lines after 12 months.
  • Sun protection: High UV levels in Cancún mean you need to shield scars from sun to stop them darkening.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Choosing a clinic like Riviera Institute or Perfection Makeover adds a meaningful safety net. Surgeons there are recertified by the Mexican Council of Plastic Surgery (CMCPER) every 5 years. This regular vetting keeps them current with techniques that reduce tissue trauma and scarring.

Patient Consensus: Patients report that while scars may feel tender or stay red for several months, other people barely notice them. Using silicone gel early on helps get the best cosmetic outcome.

Who is a good candidate for otoplasty in Cancún?

Good candidates for otoplasty in Cancún are children over 5 and healthy adults. They want to correct protruding, large, or asymmetrical ears. Ideal patients are non-smokers with realistic expectations for facial harmony. They choose accredited facilities like Riviera Institute For Plastic Surgery.

  • Age threshold: Children must be at least 5 years old, when ear cartilage is stable enough for surgery.
  • Specific conditions: Surgery treats macrotia, protruding ears, or injuries that need aesthetic ear pinning.
  • Surgeon credentials: Look for specialists certified by AMCPER or the Mexican Council of Plastic Surgery.
  • Facility standards: Choose centers affiliated with JCI or the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Cancún clinics often hold six or more international accreditations at once. For example, Dr. Rafael Velasco Marin has over 30 years of specialized experience. This means high safety for international patients. It matches US standards, at a lower cost.

Patient Consensus: Focus on finding a surgeon with a documented track record of symmetrical ear pinning. Don't just choose the lowest price. Patients say that realistic expectations for a natural-looking result lead to the highest satisfaction.

Where are the scars located after otoplasty?

Otoplasty scars are placed in the post-auricular sulcus, the natural crease behind the ear. This spot keeps incisions well hidden from front and side views in daily life.

  • Incision location: Surgeons place incisions in the natural skin fold behind the ear.
  • Visual camouflage: Scars are hard to see from most angles once fully healed.
  • Healing timeline: Initial red marks typically fade to faint lines within 12 months.
  • Rare placements: Lobe reduction may need small, hidden incisions at the earlobe base.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Cancún clinics like Riviera Institute have surgeons with over 30 years of experience. High-volume centers often use internal sutures to reduce skin tension. This prevents the scar from widening — a common concern for active patients.

Patient Consensus: Patients report that scars may look red or shiny at first. Over time, they become nearly invisible. Patients find the natural ear fold provides excellent coverage even with hair pulled back.

Will I need to wear a headband after otoplasty?

Yes, you will need to wear a protective headband after otoplasty in Cancún to secure your results. Most surgeons ask for a bulky compression dressing for 1 week. After that, you wear a soft headband for 3–6 more weeks to stop accidental ear folding or injury.

  • Initial recovery phase: A thick compression wrap stays on 24/7 for the first 7 days.
  • Secondary protection phase: Patients switch to a soft, stretchy headband for 3–6 weeks, worn only at night.
  • Surgical goal: The wrap keeps cartilage from recoiling and protects healing sutures from accidental bumps during sleep.
  • Clinic quality: Facilities like Riviera Institute follow Joint Commission International standards to guide safe postoperative care.

Bookimed Expert Insight: People often think the headband shapes the ear, but our data suggests its main job is protecting the surgeon's detailed internal work. At Cancún clinics, lead surgeons like Dr. Nain Maldonado recommend night-only wear after the first week. This balances comfort with safety and helps avoid complaints like tension headaches while still keeping the ear from bending during sleep.

Patient Consensus: Patients often find the first week’s wrap itchy or tight. Still, they recommend switching to a soft, seamless fabric band later. A silk pillowcase can also cut down on friction against the headband during recovery.

What is the best age for children to have otoplasty?

The best age for pediatric otoplasty is between 5 and 7 years. Ears reach about 90% of adult size by age 5. Cartilage remains soft enough for easy reshaping. This window also helps prevent teasing at school, protecting a child’s self-esteem.

  • Physical development: Ear cartilage is stable but still highly pliable at age 5.
  • Social timing: Surgery before elementary school minimizes risks of bullying and social anxiety.
  • Recovery speed: Younger children typically heal faster than teenagers due to higher skin elasticity.
  • Cognitive readiness: Children this age can usually follow simple post-operative instructions for headbands.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Choice of clinic in Cancun often depends on anesthesia preferences for younger children. Top centers here use board-certified pediatric anesthesiologists for patients under age 8. This adds a critical layer of safety. General clinics may not focus on this.

Patient Consensus: Parents frequently report that children feel more confident starting school after the procedure. Most patients find the discomfort manageable with standard pediatric medication and rest.
