Overall everything is great!
Everything is at the highest level. I won’t talk about treatment, because I don’t know myself, that is, I haven’t been treated. I was examined by a doctor and consulted. But I liked everything. The doctor's competence, the reception staff, the cleanliness, the equipment... The only problem is probably the parking in front of the clinic. It is difficult to park as the spaces are all occupied. But this is a problem for any big city, especially the capital. Overall everything is great!

I like the speed and doctor’s expertise and empathy level. However, especially for my ENT issue is remain unresolved and the resolution offered is not satisfactory. If doctor could conduct further test and do better follow ups, maybe then able to understand and analyse the root cause of issues. At this point, there’s still no understanding of the situation nor any right support with my symptoms and issues.
Efficient and really like how empathetic the staff are.
- no further test was done - no further follow-ups done properly - no resolution offered

FAQ about Urology in Lithuania

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Are the clinics accredited and safe?

Urology clinics in Lithuania are highly safe and follow strict European Union medical standards. Top facilities like Meliva Kardiolita Hospital and Medical Diagnostic and Treatment Center hold Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation. This gold standard confirms rigorous hygiene, patient safety, and clinical quality protocols are met.

  • Accreditations: Facilities hold JCI and Temos International Healthcare Accreditation for quality.
  • High volume: Meliva Kardiolita Hospital treats 298,000 patients annually with 510 doctors.
  • Specialist expertise: Dr. Balys Dainys and Dr. Darius Trumbeckas provide expert urological care.
  • Safety standards: Clinics follow EU directives and Lithuania Ministry of Health safety regulations.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Accreditation in Lithuania often indicates high international patient volumes. At Fi Clinica, 50% of procedures are for foreign patients. Large centers like Medical Diagnostic and Treatment Center have over 50 departments. This scale allows them to maintain advanced diagnostic equipment that smaller, non-accredited clinics may lack.

Patient Consensus: Patients often mention that clinical expertise and hygiene levels exceed expectations. While medical care is excellent, some note that parking at major city clinics in Vilnius can be difficult.

Do Lithuanian doctors speak English?

Lithuanian doctors in major private centers typically speak fluent English. Proficiency is highest among specialists in Vilnius and Kaunas who treat international patients. Most younger physicians trained after 2000 or those with Western European fellowships communicate effectively. Private clinics often prioritize English-speaking staff.

  • Clinic locations: English is most common in Vilnius, Kaunas, and Klaipėda medical centers.
  • Specialist expertise: Urologists like Dr. Balys Dainys often treat international patients from the UK.
  • Facility standards: JCI-accredited sites like Meliva Kardiolita Hospital manage 298,000 annual patient visits safely.
  • Staff demographics: Younger doctors under 40 are significantly more likely to be fluent.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data shows a clear link between international patient volume and clinical communication. Facilities like Fi Clinica, where 50% of patients come from abroad, build entire workflows around English. Choosing a clinic with international certifications like JCI or Temos ensures administrative support also speaks your language.

Patient Consensus: Patients are usually impressed by the empathy and expertise of doctors in Vilnius. While some mention the city parking is difficult, they find the medical consultations clear and the clinic environments very professional.

What are the most common urological procedures performed in Lithuania?

Common urological procedures in Lithuania focus on treating prostate enlargement, kidney stones, and bladder tumors. Clinics like Meliva Kardiolita Hospital and Medical Diagnostic and Treatment Center specialize in minimally invasive techniques. Success rates for these routine interventions are consistently high across Vilnius and Kaunas facilities.

  • Prostate surgery: TURP and laser enucleation are standard for treating benign prostatic hyperplasia.
  • Stone removal: Specialists perform laser ureteroscopy and lithotripsy to fragment kidney and ureteral stones.
  • Bladder treatments: TURBT procedures effectively remove bladder tumors using endoscopic and minimally invasive methods.
  • Men health: Outpatient clinics frequently perform vasectomies, circumcisions, and laparoscopic varicocelectomy for patient convenience.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Patient volume data suggests Lithuania is a strategic choice for complex diagnostics. Medical Diagnostic and Treatment Center serves 48,000 patients annually with 200 doctors. This high concentration of specialists often leads to faster diagnostic turnaround times compared to larger European hubs.

Patient Consensus: Patients value the expertise of specialists like Dr. Balys Dainys and appreciate the modern equipment. They often note that documenting previous imaging helps speed up the consultation process in Vilnius.

Is urology only for men in Lithuanian clinics?

Urology in Lithuania is not only for men. Clinics provide comprehensive care for men, women, and children. Specialized departments treat urinary tract infections, kidney stones, and incontinence in all genders. Facilities like Medical Diagnostic and Treatment Center also offer specialized urogynaecology services for female patients.

  • Patient demographics: Clinics treat men, women, and children for various urinary and reproductive system conditions.
  • Common treatments: Services include care for kidney stones, bladder tumors, and chronic urinary tract infections.
  • Gender-neutral care: Approximately 40% of urology patients in Lithuania are women seeking non-prostate related treatments.
  • Clinic credentials: Top facilities like Meliva Kardiolita Hospital hold JCI accreditation for high safety standards.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many assume urology is male-focused, Lithuanian clinics often integrate it with other specialties. For example, Medical Diagnostic and Treatment Center has 53 departments. This allows urologists to collaborate quickly with gynecologists or nephrologists on-site. Such coordination is a major reason why 1 in 10 patients there travels from abroad for care.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that while some older doctors are male, the clinics are welcoming to everyone. One patient mentioned that bringing a chaperone can help if you feel shy during a consultation.

Is there a waiting list for urological surgeries?

Lithuania offers remarkably fast access to urological surgeries compared to most European countries. Private medical centers minimize waiting times through efficient logistical management. Urgent procedures typically occur within 2 to 4 weeks. Elective surgeries seldom face delays exceeding 1 month in the private sector.

  • Urgent cases: Surgeries for suspected malignancies usually proceed within 2 to 4 weeks.
  • Elective priority: Benign conditions like BPH typically avoid the 4–8 month public sector wait.
  • Clinical capacity: Meliva Kardiolita Hospital treats 298,000 patients annually to ensure rapid care availability.
  • Expert access: Specialized urologists like Dr. Balys Dainys provide consultations without long referral queues.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Clinics in Vilnius and Kaunas maintain high patient throughput which actually helps speed up scheduling. Medical Diagnostic and Treatment Center serves 48,000+ patients yearly while keeping specialized departments flexible. This volume allows urology departments to fill surgical slots rapidly if a cancellation occurs. Patients can often secure earlier dates by choosing cities with lower local demand.

Patient Consensus: Patients value the speed and professional expertise found in Lithuanian urology departments. They note that while parking in Vilnius can be difficult, the medical coordination is highly efficient.

Can I get a consultation before traveling to Lithuania?

Patients can secure a medical consultation before traveling to Lithuania for urological treatment. Leading centers like Meliva Kardiolita Hospital and Medical Diagnostic and Treatment Center offer remote assessments. These digital sessions allow urologists to review medical history and diagnostic reports through secure video calls.

  • Available formats: Consultations occur via WhatsApp, Zoom, or email for 15–45 minutes.
  • Clinical expertise: Dr. Balys Dainys and Dr. Darius Trumbeckas provide specialized urological evaluations.
  • Accreditation standards: Facilities like Medical Diagnostic and Treatment Center hold JCI and Temos certifications.
  • Initial requirements: Patients must submit recent lab results and medical records for accurate review.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data shows that Lithuania's private clinics, such as Medical Diagnostic and Treatment Center, serve a high volume of international patients from the UK and Scandinavia. Because 1 in 10 patients arrives from abroad, these facilities have streamlined the pre-travel phase. Responses to initial inquiries often arrive within 48 hours. This speed allows for faster scheduling of complex diagnostics once the patient arrives in Vilnius.

Patient Consensus: Patients find that virtual meetings effectively clarify treatment plans and recovery times before they book flights. While most appreciate the fluent English and quick responses, some note that physical exams remain necessary for certain complex issues.

How long does a typical urology consultation take?

A typical urology consultation in Lithuania generally lasts between 30 and 60 minutes for initial visits. Follow-up appointments are usually shorter, ranging from 20 to 30 minutes. The duration depends on the medical history review, physical exams, and any necessary diagnostic tests performed on-site.

  • Initial visit: Lasts 30–60 minutes for history review and physical examinations.
  • Follow-up visits: Typically take 20–30 minutes to monitor progress or results.
  • Diagnostic testing: Procedures like cystoscopy or ultrasound add 15–30 minutes extra.
  • Clinic volume: Meliva Kardiolita Hospital manages 298,000 patients annually with focused timeframes.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Analysis shows that clinics with high patient volumes, like Medical Diagnostic and Treatment Center, often have deeply specialized departments. These 50+ departments allow for rapid internal referrals. This means you might spend 20 minutes with a urologist but get diagnostic results on the same day. Large Lithuanian centers prioritize efficiency by keeping testing labs directly on the premises.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that consultations can feel quick, often lasting around 20 minutes if you do not ask specific questions. They recommend bringing a written list of symptoms to ensure the doctor addresses all concerns before the appointment ends.
