Make sure your very clear on needs and expectations. Or they will nickel and dime you. Even though rides to and from border are included they will try to make to find your own way. After your surgery, no before, Will offer you a ride option across border but then later charge you for it. Also charged separately for bandaging materials used after surgery !!?!? if you dont pay you are sent away with nothing. (No they dont bandage you up unless you pay extra after the surgery). Beware of carlo he is not a point of contact only marketing manager and has no place in your medical conversations or booking, he only convoluted things between the dr and the real point of contact making for a frustrating and less then enjoyable experience.

FAQ about treatment in Mexico

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Is it safe to get breast augmentation in Cancún?

Breast augmentation in Cancun is safe when surgeons certified by the Mexican Council of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery (CMCPER) perform it. Facilities like Riviera Institute and Hospital Galenia meet international JCI standards, so they are prepared for surgical safety and emergencies — even for international patients.

  • Surgeon certification: Most specialists hold CMCPER certification and ISAPS or ASPS memberships.
  • Facility standards: Top clinics work inside JCI-accredited hospitals. This helps them manage rare surgical complications.
  • Patient volume: Local centers like Riviera Institute treat over 300 international patients a year.
  • Recovery window: Surgeons require a 7 to 10 day stay for essential post-operative monitoring.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Cancun clinics offer a safety level rarely seen elsewhere. Leading surgeons like Dr. Victor Samano do procedures only in full-scale certified hospitals — not private office suites. This setup gives direct access to intensive care, a critical safety net often absent in lower-priced regions.

Patient Consensus: Success depends on verifying hospital privileges and avoiding packages that rush your return flight. Patients note that keeping a local recovery plan for at least 1 week greatly cuts down on post-travel complications.

What questions should I ask my breast augmentation surgeon in Cancún?

Ask about certification from the Mexican Council of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery (CMCPER) and hospital privileges. Verify if surgeons like Dr. Victor Samano or Dr. Nain Maldonado use COFEPRIS-approved implants. Confirm what all-inclusive packages cover and the specific plan for long-distance follow-up.

  • Surgeon credentials: Confirm board certification by CMCPER and memberships in ISAPS or ASPS.
  • Hospital accreditation: Make sure the facility holds JCI or CSG accreditation for emergency safety.
  • Revision policy: Ask who covers costs if capsular contracture or implant displacement occurs later.
  • Travel logistics: Verify the recommended stay in Cancún before it is safe to fly.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While low entry prices are common, Dr. Víctor Samano Plastic Surgery Cancun stands out by bundling everything into complete treatment packages. This approach removes the risk of unexpected local hospital fees. Some top surgeons in Cancún perform over 500 procedures annually, which significantly lowers the likelihood of revision surgery.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize getting a clear secondary plan for complications after returning home. They recommend bringing a written list to confirm whether a lift is needed alongside implants.

How long do I need to stay in Cancún after breast augmentation for recovery?

Breast augmentation recovery in Cancún typically requires a stay of 7 to 10 days post-surgery. This time covers initial wound healing and essential follow-up appointments. Surgeons usually clear patients for short flights after 3 to 5 days. That's when the risk of early complications has usually passed.

  • Stay duration: Plan for 7 to 10 days to safely manage drains and initial swelling.
  • Surgical follow-up: Most clinics remove non-dissolvable stitches or drains around day 10.
  • Flight clearance: Surgeons generally approve air travel 3 to 5 days after a healthy recovery.
  • Activity limits: Expect to wear a compression bra and avoid lifting for 4 to 6 weeks.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While basic packages in Cancún start at $3,900, top-tier facilities like Riviera Institute For Plastic Surgery prioritize safety with JCI-accredited hospitals. Clinics with board-certified surgeons recertified every 5 years ensure your recovery timeline follows current medical standards. This is crucial for a safe 47% saving compared to US costs.

Patient Consensus: Patients suggest days 3 to 6 are the most challenging due to tightness and fatigue. Patients recommend staying up to 14 days if traveling alone. This gives you a comfortable safety cushion before flying home.

Will I be able to breastfeed after breast augmentation in Cancún?

Breast augmentation in Cancún generally preserves breastfeeding ability. Submuscular placement and inframammary incisions are especially protective. These techniques safeguard milk ducts and nerves. Success depends on the surgical approach, not the implants. The implants are safe for nursing and do not affect milk quality.

  • Incision location: Inframammary or trans-axillary incisions typically avoid damaging vital milk ducts and nerves.
  • Implant placement: Submuscular positioning keeps glandular tissue intact to support natural milk production.
  • Safe materials: Modern silicone and saline implants do not leak significant amounts into milk.
  • Surgeon credentials: Specialists like Dr. Víctor Samano hold Mexican Council of Plastic Surgery (CMCPER) certification.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Leading Cancún clinics like Riviera Institute often employ surgeons recognized by Forbes or Doctoralia specialists. These high-volume centers handle over 350 to 500 patients annually, allowing them to refine techniques that specifically minimize nerve trauma around the nipple area.

Patient Consensus: Successful mothers report nursing for years after surgery, especially with under-the-muscle implants. Some advise seeing a lactation consultant early to manage potential supply changes or latch issues.

What is the difference between subglandular and submuscular placement for breast augmentation in Cancún?

Subglandular placement places the implant directly behind the breast tissue and above the muscle. Recovery is faster with this approach. Submuscular placement hides the implant beneath the pectoral muscle. The result is a more natural look and less rippling. Cancún surgeons often recommend submuscular placement for patients with minimal natural tissue.

  • Subglandular recovery: Faster healing with less pain as chest muscles remain undisturbed.
  • Subglandular look: Creates more pronounced upper-pole fullness and a visible pushed-up appearance.
  • Submuscular coverage: Muscle layer provides better cushioning to prevent visible implant edges.
  • Submuscular health: Lower capsular contracture rates and easier imaging during future mammograms.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Top Cancún clinics like Riviera Institute or Perfection Center specialize in submuscular techniques. Submuscular placement offers long-term stability for thinner patients. Subglandular surgery is less invasive. However, a surgeon certified by CMCPER can safely perform the more complex submuscular or dual-plane approaches. More advanced placements are often the standard in Mexican centers. This approach ensures results US patients expect.

Patient Consensus: Patients often emphasize that submuscular recovery feels more intense during the first week. However, the softer and more natural results are worth the initial discomfort. Patients often recommend planning for a few extra days of rest in Cancún before flying home.

When can I return to normal activities or work after breast augmentation in Cancún?

After breast augmentation in Cancún, patients can usually go back to light, sedentary work in 7 to 10 days. Strenuous activities like heavy lifting and intense exercise usually need 6 to 8 weeks for full recovery. This allows proper healing and implant positioning.

  • Travel timeframe: Stay in Cancún for 7 to 10 days before flying home safely.
  • Office return: Resume desk jobs or remote work within 5 to 10 days post-surgery.
  • Physical labor: Wait 4 to 6 weeks for jobs involving lifting over 10 pounds.
  • Gym restrictions: Avoid all upper body workouts and high-impact cardio for 6 weeks.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Cancún clinics like Riviera Institute offer expertise, with lead surgeons recognized among Mexico's best. Basic recovery takes about 1 week. But book a 10-day stay for local follow-up care, so board-certified doctors can clear you for travel after the most critical healing phase.

Patient Consensus: Expect lingering tightness and fatigue for the first 2 weeks, making daily chores difficult. Patients recommend preparing meals ahead of time. Also, wait until you finish pain medication before driving or working.

What are the main benefits of getting breast augmentation in Cancún?

Breast augmentation in Cancún offers significant savings of around 47%. The city's JCI-accredited facilities ensure high safety. Patients also have access to board-certified surgeons. Patients benefit from all-inclusive care. The serene environment is ideal for early post-operative healing.

  • Cost savings: Procedures range from $3,900 to $5,700, significantly lower than US averages.
  • Expert surgeons: Surgeons like Dr. Rafael Velasco Marin offer over 30 years of surgical experience.
  • Global accreditation: Top clinics like Riviera Institute hold JCI and ASPS international certifications.
  • Recovery value: Aftercare is often more attentive and affordable than similar post-op services in North America.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While the lowest price attracts attention, Cancún’s value lies in its high-volume expertise. Clinics like Dr. Víctor Samano’s treat more than 500 patients annually. This high patient volume helps teams become exceptionally proficient in long-distance coordination. They also master specialized recovery protocols.

Patient Consensus: Patients value the natural-looking results and the significant boost in self-confidence. They often suggest staying longer in Cancún to benefit from professional aftercare before flying home.
