"At the end, I wish to thank the Bookimed team for all the effort and the help I had for making the consultation happened successfully
The hospital is very modern in building and very organised since arrival you will have someone from the administration to assist in registration and then will take you to the clinic where your appointment is scheduled. Waiting time is reasonable, it is always expected to wait sometimes after your scheduled time to see the Doctor. In my case, I think I should have taken an appointment from first day to directly see the surgeon and not the endocrinologist. Do two days had been spent with the endocrinologist to repeat exactly the same procedure that I had completed in Bahrain, ie repeating the ultrasound which became in result exactly as a replica of the report done in Bahrain. One test was done new which was the anti thyroid plus vitamin D which I thought unnecessary. I do not know! . Any way after meeting again the endocrinologist with results of ultrasound and lab test results, she decided to refer me to the ENT surgeon who saw the ultrasound taken at Bumrungrad Hospital Nd my local hospital plus the biopsy reports and recommended operation to remove the the right thyroid node and if found being cancerous then again tho remove the left side node, A period of two weeks was advised for operation and follow up. I asked for an estimate then I was given a rough estimate for an operation which is probably three times the total cost of the operation in Bahrain, and their estimate did not cover pre operation procedure, not the admission cost , not the follow up visits changes neither the medicine. In conclusion, in my particular case I found my self to probably to be spending 8 times the cost if am going to do the same treatment I bahrain. At the end , I wish to thank the Bookimed treat for all the effort and the help I had for making the consultation happened successfully. From the bottom of my heart big THANKS to all and I wish you a good luck. Yours , Hameed Zuhair

I would like to thank him for his effort and sensitivity
The doctor proposed a different medication for my diabetes 2. He proposed blood test and package what I found was not useful since I had a blood test on which he base is prescription of last year. Also the medication that he suggested I can find it much cheaper outside of the hospital.

The hospital environment is very nice, and the staff very friendly
The hospital environment is very nice, and the staff very friendly. The doctor on the other hand was rather aggressive and needs to learn some better manners. She really made me feel uncomfortable and wasn't that helpful, I am sure she is very knowledgeable but I dont think I will return.

FAQ about Endocrinology in Thailand

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What are the potential side effects of hormone therapy prescribed in Thailand, and how long will I typically need to take it?

Hormone therapy in Thailand treats menopause or gender affirmation with side effects like mood swings, headaches, or skin changes. Treatment duration varies from 2 to 5 years for transition milestones or symptom management. Many patients continue therapy indefinitely to maintain physical traits and support bone health.

  • Feminizing effects: Patients typically notice softer skin and fat redistribution within 3–6 months.
  • Masculinizing effects: Testosterone often causes voice deepening and increased facial hair quite rapidly.
  • Monitoring needs: Doctors prioritize regular blood work for liver function and cholesterol levels.
  • Standard duration: Physical changes usually reach their maximum effect between 2 and 5 years.
  • Post-treatment care: Re-evaluations occur annually to adjust dosages and monitor blood pressure levels.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from major Bangkok hubs like Navamin 9 Hospital shows that high patient volumes—reaching 30,000 annually—often lead to more standardized monitoring protocols. Patients should proactively request comprehensive blood panels. Clinics with international certifications, such as JCI, typically offer better-structured follow-up care for long-term hormone management.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that while physical changes like hair or voice shifts happen faster than expected, emotional sensitivity is a common early challenge. Many emphasize the need to monitor blood pressure closely, especially when starting testosterone in local clinics.

How qualified are Thai endocrinologists, and which hospitals are internationally accredited for hormone-related care?

Thai endocrinologists are highly qualified specialists. They typically complete 11 years of medical training. This includes a 6-year medical degree and 5 years of residency and fellowship. Many leading practitioners hold board certifications from the US or UK and work in JCI-accredited facilities.

  • Specialist training: Doctors complete a 2-year specialized fellowship in endocrinology and metabolism.
  • Global accreditation: Bumrungrad International Hospital holds JCI, ISO, and GHA certifications.
  • Clinic credentials: Navamin 9 Hospital is JCI-accredited and treats 30,000 patients annually.
  • Expert certifications: Dr. Anyarat Vichayawannakul holds specialized diplomas in endocrinology and metabolism.
  • Advanced expertise: Dr. Parischamon Samilang is certified by the American Board of Anti-aging.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data shows that top-rated Bangkok clinics like Bumrungrad International Hospital manage over 1 million patients annually. These high-volume centers often consolidate diagnostics. They offer on-site thyroid ultrasounds and hormonal panels. This allows patients to receive a full treatment plan in one visit. This efficiency is rare in smaller provincial clinics.

Patient Consensus: Patients report that specialists at major Bangkok hospitals provide care matching US standards. They frequently mention that bloodwork results are much faster than in their home countries. One patient noted that specialists are very thorough, though they might suggest extra tests like Vitamin D checks during initial consultations.

Is it safe to combine common Thai holiday activities (scuba, alcohol, spicy food, sun exposure) with hormone treatments?

Combining Thai holiday activities with hormone treatments is generally safe with professional guidance. Patients must manage specific side effects like photosensitivity and reduced alcohol tolerance. Scuba diving requires a fit to dive form from an endocrinologist like Dr. Sarat Sunthornyothin at Bumrungrad International Hospital.

  • Scuba safety: Diving is safe if your endocrine condition is stable and well-controlled.
  • Alcohol tolerance: Hormone therapy often lowers alcohol tolerance. Limit intake to one drink daily.
  • Sun protection: Estrogen increases UV sensitivity. Apply SPF 50+ hourly to prevent melasma.
  • Dietary triggers: Spicy Thai food may worsen hot flashes for those on estrogen.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from Bumrungrad International Hospital shows they serve 50% international patients. This high volume means their endocrinologists are experts at adjusting treatment for travel. Doctors like Dr. Anyarat Vichayawannakul frequently handle patients needing fast, reliable diagnostic results for holiday clearance. Same-day thyroid function tests cost $100 to $100 here.

Patient Consensus: Patients note it is important to hydrate aggressively with 3 liters of water daily. One patient mentioned that repeating diagnostic tests in Thailand can feel unnecessary if you already have recent results.

What is the step-by-step patient journey for a medical tourist seeking endocrine evaluation in Thailand?

The patient journey for endocrine evaluation in Thailand typically takes 3 to 7 days. It involves specialized pre-travel coordination, comprehensive diagnostic testing at JCI-accredited centers, and personalized management plans. These centers treat conditions like diabetes, thyroid disorders, and hormonal imbalances using advanced cellular therapies.

  • Pre-travel prep: Research JCI-accredited facilities like Navamin 9 Hospital and compile existing medical records.
  • Initial consultation: Meet specialists like Dr. Anyarat Vichayawannakul at Intrarat Hospital for symptom review.
  • Diagnostic phase: Complete blood panels, thyroid ultrasounds, or specialized hormone profile tests within 48 hours.
  • Treatment planning: Receive a tailored plan, including options like BHRT or stem cell therapy.
  • Follow-up care: Obtain English medical reports for remote monitoring and local hormone level adjustments.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Thai clinics often bundle endocrinology with broader health screenings. Navamin 9 Hospital and Bangkok Hospital Pattaya serve over 30,000 and 400,000 patients annually. This high volume allows doctors to identify incidental endocrine issues during general check-ups that specific tests might miss.

Patient Consensus: Patients note it's important to bring all past records to avoid repeating expensive tests. Some find that hormone levels can fluctuate due to travel stress, so retesting after resting for a few days ensures more accurate results.

How long do I need to stay in Thailand for common hormone procedures, and when can I fly back?

Patients typically stay in Thailand for 2 to 3 days for hormone procedures like bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT). You can usually fly back 48 hours after minor treatments. Major surgeries require 2 to 4 weeks for safe recovery before long-haul travel.

  • BHRT duration: Most patients complete consultations and pellet insertion within 1 to 2 days.
  • Flight safety: Wait at least 48 hours after implants to minimize blood clot risks.
  • Thyroid surgery: Plan a 7 to 10 day stay for thyroidectomy and initial monitoring.
  • Stem cell therapy: Programs for diabetes often require 3 days for treatment and observation.
  • Travel documents: JCI-accredited hospitals like Navamin 9 Hospital provide necessary fit-to-fly medical certificates.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from high-volume centers like Bangkok Hospital Pattaya shows that clinics performing 400,000+ patient visits annually often provide all-in-one diagnostic bundles. Choosing these packages can reduce your stay by 24 hours because they prioritize same-day blood results and ultrasound imaging.

Patient Consensus: Patients note it is important to rest for at least two days before flying to avoid discomfort at the implant site. Many advise bringing compression stockings for the trip home to stay comfortable during the long flight.

Which language services and diet support can I expect during hormone treatment in Thailand?

Patients in Thailand receive extensive English support and integrated nutritional counseling during hormone therapy. Major facilities like Bumrungrad International Hospital employ 1,300+ doctors, many with Western training. Specialist clinics provide bilingual teams and certifications in nutritional wellness to manage metabolic shifts and treatment side effects effectively.

  • Language support: Major hospitals like Bangkok Hospital Pattaya offer JCI-accredited services for international patients.
  • Medical expertise: Specialists like Dr. Donna Robinson at MedConsult hold UK and Thai licenses.
  • Dietary integration: Doctors like Dr. Parischamon Samilang hold American Board certifications in nutritional wellness.
  • International coordination: Bumrungrad serves 500,000+ international patients yearly with dedicated translation and registration assistance.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Clinics with high international volumes, such as Bumrungrad, organize the patient journey so seamlessly that an administrator escorts you from arrival to the clinic door. This level of logistical support often compensates for nursing staff who may have more limited English than the specialist doctors. We recommend prioritizing JCI-accredited centers in Bangkok for the most robust coordination.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that while doctors are fluent, using translation apps helps when communicating specific dietary needs to nursing staff. Many suggest preparing a personal high-protein meal plan to balance the carb-heavy options typically available locally.

Do outpatient endocrine follow-ups require heavy luggage (cold boxes) and can I bring my Thai medicines back home?

Outpatient endocrine follow-ups in Thailand do not require heavy luggage or cold boxes. Most patients only need standard bags for records and medications. You can bring Thai medicines home in original packaging with a valid prescription. International regulations generally allow a 30 to 90-day supply for personal use.

  • Luggage needs: Standard bags suffice for blood sugar meters and medical documentation.
  • Temperature control: Use portable insulated bags only for refrigerated items like insulin.
  • Original packaging: Keep all medications in labeled containers matching your passport name.
  • Quantity limits: Most countries allow 30 days of standard medicine for travel.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data shows that JCI-accredited centers like Navamin 9 Hospital and Bangkok Hospital Pattaya handle massive patient volumes, reaching 400,000 annually. These high-capacity hubs often have internal pharmacies that provide English-labeled prescriptions. This specific documentation is essential for smoothly clearing customs in your home country.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that follow-up visits are typically quick and only last 1 to 2 hours. They suggest carrying digital copies of all prescriptions as a backup during travel to avoid any issues at border checks.
