How Much Does Plasmapheresis Cost in Turkey?

Plasmapheresis in Turkey typically costs from $1,200 to $2,400 per session. The final price depends on the specific medical condition, required replacement fluids like albumin, and the chosen hospital's accreditation level. Patients save around 70% compared to the US, where the average price is $6,000. Local costs generally include specialist consultations, disposable filters, medications, and airport transfer services.

  • Session volume: Prices scale significantly as most autoimmune protocols require three to five sessions.
  • Replacement fluids: Using fresh frozen plasma or specialized albumin solutions typically increases the base cost.
  • Clinic location: Major medical hubs like Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir offer the most competitive packages.
  • Accreditation level: Premium JCI-accredited facilities often charge 15-20% more than non-accredited local clinics.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Choosing a multi-specialty giant like Medipol Mega University Hospital provides massive value. They treat over 1,000,000 patients annually and hold JCI accreditation. For complex cases, Anadolu Medical Center offers a unique advantage through its Johns Hopkins Hospital affiliation. While per-session rates start around $700, booking multi-session packages in Istanbul frequently includes 10 nights of hospitalization at no extra cost.

I had the worst experience at Anadolu hospital, and actually feel like I was scammed. The doctors or employees there made it clear they do not care AT ALL what happens to you, only that they take as much money from you as they can before you leave. Horrible! If I survive in the end without being bankrupt, I will definitely hire a lawyer and sue them!

I couldn't have wanted for more
What really stood out was sitting with my surgeon as he so carefully measured and marked my upper eyelids. He was very honest about what to expect from the recovery and potential scarring, which I appreciated. The procedure was done with just local anesthesia. I'm still in the early healing stages, but I am feeling better than expected so far. The clinic team has stayed in touch to check in on me, and there were no additional expenses at all. I can't even think of any advice for a future patient, because the clinic provided all the necessary information beforehand. I couldn't have wanted for more.

Ali Zirch is the best and he has a good team
Operation DBS. Ali Zirch is the best and he has a good team . Because setting up the equipment is as important process for patients as the operation to install it. Honestly, I can't imagine that such an operation can be done in Ukraine.... Of course, there are young and promising doctors. But there is no equipment.

Dr Sait has worked wonders
On the 18th he underwent surgery with a vagus nerve stimulator on the 25th and it was connected. Dr Sait has worked wonders. Daytime seizures are very rare but nighttime seizures have changed completely. I am 35 years old and so far only the first connection 0.25 paediatric dose and 5 more connections. Thank you to the neurologist Dr Yemmir who agreed to treat me. For all my years my encephalogram is finally normal. I am from abroad. I don't live in Istanbul. But I thank the whole clinic, all the doctors, all the interpreters, all the staff.

"But I want to express my deepest and heartfelt thanks to our assistant from the first day, a month before we arrived at Mahmoud Kathab hospital, this young man is gifted with a huge heart, I think he was the person who made me choose MEDIPOL PARMERA etc
I would like to express our satisfaction with the DBS operation, the stay in the hospital, which I dare to say at the world level. Dr. Ali Zirh is an absolute professional, precise, clear, concrete and above all very human. But I want to express my deepest and heartfelt thanks to our assistant from the first day, a month before we arrived at Mahmoud Kathab hospital, this young man is gifted with a huge heart, I think he was the person who made me choose MEDIPOL PARMERA etc. Ali Zarh. Last but not least, I am fascinated by the neurologist Dr. Basak and her team, who for 21 days took care of regulating the exact therapy and impulses of my husband. Our entire stay was reduced to the last detail for our benefit, to feel at home. We have not regretted it for a moment, that we chose MEDIPOL MEGA GROUP, thank you Mahmoud, you were born to help people like us!!! Please to reword Mahmoud Kathab ,he deserved a lot!!!

FAQ about Plasmapheresis in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Which conditions are commonly treated with plasmapheresis in Turkey?

Plasmapheresis in Turkey commonly treats neurological conditions like Guillain-Barré Syndrome, Myasthenia Gravis, and Multiple Sclerosis. It is also vital for hematological disorders such as Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP) and renal issues, including antibody-mediated kidney transplant rejection and Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis.

  • Neurological disorders: Treats acute Myasthenia Gravis, Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP), and Neuromyelitis Optica.
  • Hematological conditions: Manages life-threatening TTP and Hyperviscosity Syndrome in patients with Multiple Myeloma.
  • Renal applications: Facilitates ABO-incompatible kidney transplants and manages severe Goodpasture’s Syndrome cases.
  • Rare indications: Provides specialized care for severe snakebites and refractory Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While basic sessions cost between $1,200 and $2,400, high-volume centers like Anadolu Medical Center or Istanbul Florence Nightingale handle 20–30 complex cases weekly. This high frequency often leads to better protocol standardization for rare autoimmune flares compared to lower-volume European clinics.

Patient Consensus: Patients report rapid symptom relief for Myasthenia Gravis and MS relapses after 5–7 sessions. Many advise strictly following infection protocols for catheters and coordinating closely with local neurologists to manage potential rebound symptoms after returning home.

What are the success rates and safety protocols?

Plasmapheresis in Turkey maintains high success rates, with patients reporting 80% to 95% symptom improvement for autoimmune disorders. JCI-accredited facilities follow strict American Society for Apheresis (ASFA) protocols, ensuring sterile environments and continuous monitoring by on-site nephrologists to maximize patient safety and clinical outcomes.

  • Success rates: Patients report 90% symptom relief for myasthenia gravis flares after 5–7 sessions.
  • Clinical safety: Top clinics integrate daily bloodwork and heparin monitoring to prevent coagulation issues.
  • Accreditation standards: Leading centers like Memorial Şişli Hospital hold Joint Commission International (JCI) certification.
  • Complication management: Medical teams use calcium infusions to immediately address mild citrate reactions if they occur.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish clinics often achieve 95% success rates by utilizing aggressive multi-session protocols compared to standard Western approaches. At centers like Anadolu Medical Center, which is affiliated with Johns Hopkins, the integration of 24/7 nurse oversight and pre-procedure echo checks significantly reduces risks for international patients.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize the importance of tracking personal responses early in the treatment cycle. Many report achieving full remission from conditions like Guillain-Barré syndrome after 10 cycles with no recorded infections.

How long does the procedure take and what is the recovery?

Plasmapheresis sessions in Turkey typically take 1 to 3 hours to complete. Most patients resume normal daily activities within 24 hours, though a full treatment course often requires 3 to 5 sessions scheduled over 7 to 14 days to achieve optimal results.

  • Session duration: Procedures last 1 to 3 hours depending on plasma volume and exchange requirements.
  • Treatment course: Standard protocols involve 3 to 5 sessions performed daily or Every Other Day (EOD).
  • Immediate recovery: Patients generally return to their hotel or home the same day as the treatment.
  • Symptom resolution: Minor fatigue, dizziness, or tingling typically fade within 1 to 7 days post-session.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While a single session is fast, plan for a 14-day stay in Istanbul. Bookimed data shows top clinics like Anadolu Medical Center or Medipol often spread treatments over 10 days. This schedule prevents extreme fatigue and allows doctors to monitor your calcium levels between sessions.

Patient Consensus: Patients report quick physical recovery but recommend stocking up on calcium chews and electrolytes. Staying well-hydrated before each session significantly reduces the common `pins and needles` sensation caused by the procedure.

What are the top hospitals and cities for this procedure?

Istanbul is the primary hub for plasmapheresis in Turkey, featuring high-capacity centers like Anadolu Medical Center and Medipol Mega University Hospital. These JCI-accredited facilities offer advanced apheresis units and specialized care in hematology and neurology, providing services at costs significantly lower than in United States institutions.

  • Anadolu Medical Center: Istanbul facility affiliated with Johns Hopkins, holding JCI and ESMO accreditations.
  • Medipol Mega University: Major multi-specialty complex in Istanbul serving over 1 million patients annually.
  • Florence Nightingale Hospital: Features smart-building technology and specialist neurologists like Baris Topcular for dementia.
  • Memorial Sisli Hospital: First JCI-accredited hospital in Turkey with specialized bone marrow transplant units.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many search for the lowest price, the real value in Turkey is the multidisciplinary approach. Clinics like Anadolu Medical Center function as research hubs with 150+ doctors. This means your plasmapheresis is supervised by specialized hematologists or neurologists, not just general technicians, ensuring better management of underlying conditions.

Patient Consensus: Patients value JCI-accredited hospitals in Istanbul for balancing speed and clinical comfort. Popular feedback highlights the importance of verifying english-speaking staff and coordinator support to manage the 3–7 sessions typically required for treatment.

Are there specialized packages for international patients?

Turkish medical centers offer specialized international patient packages for Plasmapheresis that bundle clinical procedure costs with logistics. These programs typically include JCI-accredited hospital stays, airport-to-hotel transfers, and dedicated medical coordinators. Patients often save around 70% compared to US costs for the same therapeutic exchange.

  • Clinical services: Packages cover laboratory screenings, physician consultations, and the Plasmapheresis procedure itself.
  • Logistics support: Most centers include VIP airport-hotel-clinic transfers and bilingual medical translation services.
  • Accredited facilities: Top institutions like Anadolu Medical Center and Memorial Bahçelievler maintain JCI certification.
  • Concierge care: Dedicated departments handle medical visa invitation letters and coordinate follow-up records.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Bookimed data shows a clear advantage in Istanbul, where high patient volumes at clinics like Hisar Hospital Intercontinental led to refined international protocols. While base prices range from $1,200 to $2,400, the highest-rated clinics often bundle extra diagnostic tests that smaller providers exclude. Choosing a facility with a built-in hotel, like Istanbul Florence Nightingale, significantly reduces travel stress for patients undergoing multiple sessions.

Patient Consensus: Patients value the seamless coordination of transfers but emphasize requesting written English breakdowns of all inclusions. Many recommend budgeting for extra diagnostic tests not initially listed in basic quotes.

What are the risks associated with plasmapheresis in Turkey?

Plasmapheresis in Turkey is generally safe, with a 12.6% incidence of minor adverse effects. Serious complications are rare, with technical failure rates around 0.6%.

Most patients experience only mild, manageable symptoms. These include muscle cramps, fatigue, or temporary blood pressure drops during the procedure.

  • Standard monitoring: Specialists use citrate anticoagulants, which can cause tingling or cramps from low calcium.
  • Replacement fluids: Risks rise to 22.1% when only fresh frozen plasma is used instead of albumin.
  • Clinical pathways: Centres like Anadolu Medical Center follow JCI-accredited protocols to prevent catheter-related sepsis.
  • Medication impact: The procedure removes plasma, which may temporarily lower levels of chronic medications in the blood.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish neurology departments often integrate robotic rehabilitation into post-plasmapheresis care. Dr Baris Topcular at Istanbul Florence Nightingale Hospital uses Lokomat systems alongside plasma exchange. This combined approach is particularly effective for autoimmune conditions. It addresses both systemic inflammation and physical mobility at the same time.

Patient Consensus: The staff at major Istanbul clinics are very attentive to patients’ needs during treatment. Service is typically fast and highly professional for blood-related disorders in Turkey.

Is Turkey a reliable destination for therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE)?

Turkey is a reliable destination for therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE). It offers specialised care for autoimmune, neurological, and haematological disorders. JCI-accredited hospitals in Istanbul utilise modern blood filtration technology. Specialists such as Dr Baris Topcular hold international expertise. This expertise is in treating Multiple Sclerosis and Myasthenia Gravis.

  • Specialist expertise: Neurologists like Dr Talip Asil have completed Canadian fellowships in stroke and vascular diseases.
  • Accredited facilities: Memorial Şişli Hospital was Turkey’s first JCI-accredited facility. It has maintained high standards since 2000.
  • Clinical volume: Medipol Mega University Hospital serves 1,000,000+ patients annually. It manages complex blood filtration cases daily.
  • Cost efficiency: Procedures cost from $1,200 to $2,400. This saves patients up to 70% vs Australia.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many clinics offer TPE. However, the most reliable outcomes for Australian patients are found at university-affiliated hospitals. One example is Istanbul Florence Nightingale. These centres coordinate robotic rehabilitation alongside plasmapheresis. This provides a comprehensive recovery path that smaller private clinics cannot typically match.

Patient Consensus: Patients find Turkish hospitals offer fast service and attentive staff in places like Istanbul. The experience is often described as highly efficient. It contrasts with long waiting lists for specialist blood treatments in other countries.

What types of diseases can be treated with plasmapheresis in Turkish clinics?

Turkish clinics use plasmapheresis to treat serious autoimmune, neurological, and haematological disorders. The procedure removes harmful antibodies from the blood. Specialists at JCI-accredited centres in Istanbul and Izmir apply this procedure for life-threatening conditions. These include Guillain-Barré syndrome, Myasthenia Gravis, and Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP).

  • Neurological conditions: Doctors treat Myasthenia Gravis, Guillain-Barré syndrome, and chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP).
  • Haematological diseases: Experts manage Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP) and specific blood cancers through plasma exchange.
  • Autoimmune illnesses: Centres treat severe cases of Lupus and vasculitis involving pathogenic antibody removal.
  • Transplant support: Specialists use apheresis to prepare patients for or manage organ and bone marrow transplants.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish neurology departments often integrate plasmapheresis into complex rehabilitation programmes. At Istanbul Florence Nightingale Hospital and Medicalpoint Izmir, specialists like Dr Baris Topcular combine plasma exchange with robotic Lokomat systems. This accelerates recovery for autoimmune neurological patients.

Patient Consensus: Patients find Turkish hospitals provide rapid access to specialist staff. These staff are highly attentive during intensive blood filtration treatments. The experience is described as fast and professional in major Istanbul centres. These centres have well-established haematology units.

How many sessions of plasmapheresis are usually required in Turkey?

Patients usually require 4 to 6 sessions of plasmapheresis in Turkey. These sessions treat conditions like Myasthenia Gravis or neurological disorders. Treatment often spans 4 to 10 days, with each session lasting 2 to 4 hours. Specialists like Dr Baris Topcular determine the final count based on clinical response.

  • Treatment cycles: Standard protocols involve 5 sessions frequently performed over a 10-day hospital stay.
  • Clinical intensity: Concentrated courses may require 7–8 sessions over 16 days for severe autoimmune flares.
  • Session duration: Each individual plasma exchange typically takes 2 to 4 hours.
  • Loading doses: Some plans start with 2 sessions in one week to reduce antibody levels quickly.

Bookimed Expert Insight: A single session costs from $1,200. However, most Turkish hospitals like Istanbul Florence Nightingale bundle 5 sessions into a 10-day package. This approach is more cost-effective. It includes the hospitalisation and central catheter care needed for safe plasma exchange.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey describe the procedure as a helpful short-term solution for autoimmune symptoms. Many find that a concentrated course of 5 to 8 sessions provides significant relief. The relief often lasts for several months.

Where are the best clinics for plasmapheresis in Turkey?

Istanbul houses Turkey's leading plasmapheresis centres. JCI-accredited facilities like Istanbul Florence Nightingale and Anadolu Medical Center provide specialised therapeutic apheresis. These hospitals employ experts who manage autoimmune, neurological, and haematological conditions. They use plasma exchange protocols in multidisciplinary environments.

  • Specialised departments: Anadolu Medical Center features a dedicated Bone Marrow Transplant Center with Johns Hopkins affiliation.
  • Expert neurologists: Dr Baris Topcular performs plasmapheresis for autoimmune neurological conditions at Florence Nightingale.
  • Accredited facilities: Medipol Mega University Hospital serves 1,000,000 patients annually with JCI-certified clinical standards.
  • AU-relevant care: Valued Med Hub Hospitals and VM Medical Park Florya regularly treat Australian patients.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While single sessions cost from $1,200, most patients require 5–7 sessions for a full course. Choosing university-affiliated centres like Istanbul Florence Nightingale is a smart move. They provide access to academic specialists who handle complex neurological cases daily.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey appreciate the fast service and attentive staff during plasma exchange treatments. Many travellers recommend organising all-inclusive transfers and hotel stays through the clinic. This helps manage the recovery periods between sessions.
